Cruise question & multiple contracts question

We are back to considering a DVC. We want BC and since it is sold out we have to go for resale. I get the limitations of resale units, and the only thing that irks me is the inability to go on the members cruise. But we are also thinking Poly. So if we find a BCV resale contact for an every-other-year points amount and then buy Poly after it is built for an every other year amount we will not have the 160 point minimum since we would already have a contract, right? And in that case we will be able to go on the members cruise (and pay cash) because poly would be a direct buy, right?

My other question is about home resorts. I understand that early dec has to be booked at the 11 month mark so it really needs to be from your home resort. What about now (mid to late sept)? Are there rooms at the Epcot and monorail resorts at the 7 month mark (so if we did have two contracts we could combine them for a larger room?) We figure we want about 250-300 points total, but we dont have that kind of cash to outlay right now.

My thoughts:

I would never buy a DVC interest to attend a Members Cruise. DVC changed the rules to limit resale sales and they can change the rules again.

The Members Cruise cost more than a regular cruise and the additional benefits may or may not be of value to you.

Add on direct contracts can be as low as 25 points.

After not being able to secure reservations at 7 months we decided to buy where we love to stay.

We want to stay where we want, when we want and hoping for availability, walking reservations, and depending on waitlists that never come through or knowing that daily checkers might jump the list does not make us happy and everyone knows that Disney is suppose to be the happiest place on earth! :donald:

Yes, if you buy a direct contract after buying a resale contract you will be eligible for the member cruise.

Mid-September is okay for availability, but once you get to late September you're going to encounter Food and Wine Festival crowds at the Epcot resorts and availability will drop off considerably.

Bill, DL is the Happiest Place on Earth. MK is the Most Magical Place on Earth.

Epcot, DHS, AK, CA aren't magical at all. ;)

Not saying direct is better or worse than resale (I've bought both ways) but this first sentence is not correct.

Just because a DVC resort is "sold out" doesn't mean you can't get points there direct from Disney. You need to specify to your guide, and sometimes be insistent, but Disney is always getting points back either through foreclosure or ROFR. They resell these points at a significant markup over the resale contracts you'll see on various sites. And you might have to go on a wait list until the UY you want is available, but it can be done.

Personally I don't think the value is there to buy retail simply to have access to paying cash for the member cruise but this approach should work unless they change the rules (which they could do). If you want to own at the Poly enough to pay the higher prices then you would have access to the member cruise but for cash only, realistically. You are correct in that you could buy as little as 25 points at the poly once buying resale.
