My sister, dad, and I have surprised my mom with a trip to Disney - will she need the credit card that we booked the trip with upon check in?

No, you can use a different credit card. We do it all the time. :)

Yea they just need any card to have on file for when you wild people trash the room. Haha

1) You can use the same card.
2) You can use a different card for the room charges.
3) You can use a different card for each person's key charges.
4) You can just register without using ANY card. *

* It is never necessary to have a card on file, unless you want to charge to your KTTW key.

Really? That's an improvement. It was a few years ago, but when my sister traveled with us to Saratoga Springs we had to change the card on the room folio, charge an amount to her card, then change it back to my card.

No. They will ask if you want to use it for charges, but it is not necessary. The CC is only to hold the reservation. You can use any other card or payment type you wish.

I've always wondered how Disney handles things if a guest actually DOES trash a room. I guess being Disney, that's rare enough that they don't worry too much about it?

1) That is a shame.
2) Someone got lazy and didn't want to take the time do do a "SHARE".
3) Since about 1992, you could assign different CC's to different KTTW's. *
4) At any resort, any number of guests, any number of CC's.
. . . let's say there were four people in a room
. . . each person could have their own credit card assigned to their own key
5) In fact, it was at SSR that I learned how to do it !!!

* In the training video every CM needs to watch, the "SHARE" method is
discussed, with instructions to review the procedure in the Front Desk
Manual. This was initially started for businessmen traveling together on
some of the conventions that WDW holds. There were major complaints
that room charges were appearing on the bills and no way to separate them
for the expense accounts. Sure, they could tell by the key "number", but
company accountants have problems with this when submitting expenses.

this has been our experience. we stayed in a 2 bedroom at okw and there were 3 different cards on the room. no problem at all.

When using your CC at Check In, do they put a hold on it with a transaction amount? Last time we stayed at WBC they put a $500 'hold charge' on my card, and I nearly died in shock.
