Official 2013 Tower of Terror 10 Miler

They are laying down fresh oil/gravel on my county road today. Not a happy camper!:sad2: I guess it will make me work a little harder and hopefully nobody zooms by and kicks up any stones.

Since a few people mentioned the trail let me clear that up.

I forget exactly which mile it is, but at one point you will enter a wooded trail.

The trail can fit about 5-6 people across. It is very well lit, but at points it would be hard to run on the edges because of trees/weeds.

I was in the last corral last year, and I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it, but it seemed all the people around us began to walk on the trail. Because I was already tired at this point and the trail was crowded, I made the mistake of walking as well.

In retrospect, if that happens this year I will definitely be loud and request a running path. Do not let yourself get bogged down here.

I don't mean to cause anyone fear, my fear is of a more personal nature because of my experience last year with being crowded into a walk.

Thanks for reminding me of that. That portion of "trail" was exactly where I hit my wall and for fear of running on gravel for the first time I walked. Unfortunately I could never run after that for more than a 15 second stretches. I was so glad that even though I was in the last corral I had bought myself space between the sweepers and myself. My boyfriend laughed that my 5K time was awesome and then I slowed a little which is normal but then all the sudden I just dropped to my terrible pace (17-18 min miles!) I luckily finished with an average of under 16 min/miles and way in front of the sweepers still.

Has anyone else that's registered for the TOT 10 miler been selected to test the new Magic Bands??? I discovered last week that we were selected to test them through MDE and was able to customize the band and have them sent to us. When I went to make Fastpass + reservations it wouldn't let me saying my tickets weren't linked. We got the special park tickets through Rundisney to get the discount and after calling IT I was told because they were "group" tickets that I couldn't link them until check in. Has anyone had a similar experience? Sorry, I know it's not exactly on topic but I thought there might be someone else here that might know something about the new system.

Yes. My sister - who booked with a package - is in the same boat. Got same explanation from tech support.

We calculated that given a couple of upcoming trips she has planned (PHM, etc) she could get a DVC AP now and use that for the ToT trip -- for no extra cost. So she opted to do that and can book FP+ that way.

Yes, we are getting MagicBands and were able to link our runDisney tickets. Our reservation is under my sister's account and she scanned them in with her phone app and we were able to get FP+. Maybe keep calling and ask another person.

How did she get the physical tickets? My understanding is that the tickets purchased as part of a runDisney package are at the hotel upon your arrival -- we were told they cannot mail them out ahead.

We ordered the tickets separately and not in a hotel package, so maybe that's why they could be mailed. We're staying at AoA, which didn't have a runDisney discount, but were then able to order just the discounted tickets through the runDisney website.

Yes, I think that's the difference. Not so with a package, from what several CMs told us. Tickets await you upon checkin so cannot be linked to MDE ahead of time at this point (should be resolved for full rollout).

Hi all! My little one wanted to run in the kids race so she could get a medal like Daddy, so I signed her up. I'm in Tampa and we're not staying in Orlando Friday night. It's no problem for me to leave work noonish to go pick up my packet for the 10-miler, but here's my question: since I'm her father, I should be able to pick up my daughter's packet for the kids race, correct? She doesn't have a photo ID because she's six, so I can't fill out the form I found. I guess I could bring her birth certificate but that feels like overkill.

I could take her out of school but I really want to avoid that if possible. Has anyone else had experience on this that they might be willing to share? Thanks!

No experience with kids races, but I would think you could just print out the registration confirmation you received and take that with you. If nobody else chimes in with experienced advice, you can contact runDisney (407-939-iRun) for the information.

Are you doing the early check in online? I'm scared to do it not having my tickets and having to wait until check in to get them. I hate to have to stand in a long line for check in but don't know any other way that we can get our tickets and link to our Magicbands???

Hi everyone we are leaving in a few days may hours in the car then a few plane rides. I wanted to wish everyone good luck at the race. Thank you cewait for all your encouraging words.

If anyone is in corral G say hi I will have devil horns on. My toe still hurts but I can walk/ jog a little so I will do my best. I have the 5k in with my kid, the morning of the TT race and then breakfast and rest. Plan to do my best.
One question is it true if you get swept that you still get your medal?

I wish everyone a happy race.

I'll be the one in G dressed as the Evil Queen :) And yes, back when I tried the DL half in 2012, I got swept and still got a medal. I heard one lady bragging about it on the way back to where they drop you off, so it obviously wasn't her first race.

my group of friends that are doing the run now have two extra bibs because people dropped out one (injury and work move) can we use the bibs to just get people in to the party?

Why are you scared to do online checkin? There are many people who have packages who do online checkin. And at this point you're not really doing it early; for most of this year we've been able to do online checkin 60 days out. :)

Not sure if anyone has seen it, but they extended some hours for our October trips. It looks like Saturday night MK will be open til midnight instead fo 9:00. Not that it affects any of us that are racing. And on some nights they have added second showings of Fantasmic and MSEP.

I think they are also cutting back MK's opening from 8:00 to 9:00.

Here's the link to the new hours:

Good to know, I'll have to check it out!

Yay, good luck to you, too!

I remember reading threads about various races last year, and that did seem to be the experience people had (getting the medals).

Thanks for the info... Unless I am mistaken, MK has always opened at 0900. The exception would be on extra magic mornings.

Note that MK also closes at 7 pm on a couple days for the MNNSHP

Safe travels and happy racing to you! I'm in G and I'll keep an eye out for you! :thumbsup2

I can't say for sure, but I don't see any reason that wouldn't work!

This is what Josh posted over at easywdw so I was just repeating it for our friends here. He said "The biggest change from last year is the lack of regular 8am openings at Magic Kingdom on Party dates. In 2012, Magic Kingdom had regular 8am openings on eleven dates. This year, there are no regular 8am openings."

So it only affects those going to MK on MNNSHP days.

You need to contact RD to see if you can swap the bibs for a ticket. The bib will not get you in through the front entrance of HS. Runners with bibs enter though the back of HS near TOT.
