Disney Chase $50 not compatible with on board booking discount/stateroom credit?

We booked our next cruise while on board our last cruise, getting the 10% off and $200 OBC. I thought we would also get $50 for paying the whole thing with our Disney Rewards card, but when I just called (after waiting on hold 20 minutes) I was told that we don't get the $50 if we book on board. I asked where this was explained in writing, he said "I don't know."

Anyone know if this is true before I waste 20 more minutes on it?

This has always been the case. You can only use one code for a DCL discount. Both the OBB & the Visa OBC require codes to have them applied to your reservation.

I didn't realize that booking on board used a code, but good to know that has "always" been the case. Forgive my ignorance.

The only thing that the Disney Visa OBC can be combined with is *GT rates since these do not require a booking code.

Anything else with a booking code cannot be combined. That is, FLR, MIL, KSF, etc.

DCL told me yesterday it used to be the case up to about a year and a half ago.

I keep seeing a couple of people reporting this, but it's not on the Disney Rewards website that lists ALL other perks. Can you please show me where it indicates this was extended? I've been searching and can't find any official mention of an extension. I'm not trying to argumentative, but until it's in writing on the website, I don't actually believe it just because someone posts "it's been extended."

The perk has been that you need to use your Disney Rewards Visa to pay for the full fare (including deposit), and you could get $50 OBC if you are not utilizing any other discount code on your reservation (it does work with *GT but not OBB or other discounts).

If it is available, you would need to request it -- call DCL. However... the current perk expires after cruises sailing on 9/28/2013. Some people are reporting it has been extended -- which it has been in the past -- but nobody has yet provided proof of such extension and the Disney Rewards website does not indicate that is so. Hopefully it will be extended, but that remains to be seen.

With the fact that Disney is always offering super last minute fares, it doesn't even pay to book onboard anymore.

$150 extra OBC is doesn't make up for the discount they offer.

It is over $1000 less for the cruise now than what I paid with the 10% off.

What was the fare on Opening Day? Most of the *GT rates don't actually beat opening day fares. So if you have an OBB that you transfer on opening day -- that's lowest fare plus 10% discount plus $100 or $200 OBC. Probably better than the *GT offered 18 months later. Not guaranteed to be lower on any given cruise, but the odds are it will be.

However, if you don't like to plan too far ahead, you are correct that *GT rates can be a very good deal.

Tell them you want to make sure it's noted for Disney Visa OBC. They should be able to see that payment was made that way. However, unless you are cruising in the next 10 days, I wouldn't expect to get it. The website currently only lists this perk for cruises departing through 9/28/2013.

I agree. Also now that my kids are not so little we find esp on the classic ships it's best to get 2 cabins. So that $200 OBC is now $400. (Plus our TA gives us $200/cabin though that could apply to GT fares too possibly.)
Our last 2 summer cruises were Alaska & Med, both biggies, so the 10% was around $6-700. Med cruise OBC was $800, Alaska was $1100.

For perks like that, plus the uncertainty of airfares as the dates get closer, I prefer to book early. We also like to choose our own cabin & have early dining. These things may not be important to others but they are to us.

I was told by DCL that to qualify for the $50 deposit and full payment could be done with the Disney Visa, the Disney Rewards card, or Disney gift cards. Ymmv...

I have no idea where I read it now, but it obviously hasn't been updated on the website! I called nearly three weeks ago and added it for a February cruise. I specifically said, "Heard the Disney Visa onboard credit has been extended to September 2014" and the CM said, "Yes, it has..." Blah blah and it was added. $50 to the onboard account.

BUT like pp said, it cannot be combined with OBB for a cruise that was booked onboard so I couldn't add it for the October cruise which I booked onboard in January but could for the Feb one which was booked outright.

I didn't intend to imply that. It was simply the difference between an answer of "that policy went into effect on XX date."

I was recently told the same thing. They are not combinable.
