Wonderful Panama Canal Sept 2014

Okay so we are back from our Alaskan cruise on the Wonder. Had a great time and all the staff we met went out of their way to make sure Trevor had a great birthday! Ready to start planning this one now!

Welcome to all the new cruisers!

Welcome to all the new cruisers!

Welcome, YukonGirl 123. My husband and I took the Alaska cruise August 12-19. Had a wonderful time. We were totally pleased with the staff and crew of the Wonder. So much so, that I'm going to see if we can't get the same dining room serving team when we sail her again through the Panama Canal. I don't know if we'll get the same stateroom host or not, as our room is several rooms removed from the one we had on the last trip. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law, however, will be in the room we had, so they may get wonderful Kim as their stateroom host.... keeping it in the family anyway :)

We're really looking forward to this cruise. The more I read about it, the more I'm sure it's going to be memorable!

Karen

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone :-)

I have my calendar marked for when flights open up in a few weeks. We shall probably fly Virgin London to LA and then back from Orlando to Manchester (I hate indirect flights too) a few days after the cruise ends so that we can hopefully enjoy some of the Halloween festivities which normally start in the Orlando parks the weekend that we disembark!

do you not drive to the airport, with going from one and back to the other, a distance apart? We'll be looking at BA from H'row to San Diego then back from Orlando to Gatwick (using a taxi to get back to the car).
We love Halloween to so are planning going to MNSSHP if there's one during the 3 nights post cruise.

Is BA a good airline for long haul only did short flights

We have flown BA from Toronto to London and it was great. It was first class though so we had the flat beds, extensive menu choices, etc. Compared to other airlines that we've flown first class, long haul, it was one of the nicest.

Well I just booked our stay at the hotel in San Diego...not at the one I really wanted but this one looks good too. Booked us at Hilton on Harbor Island Drive. I wanted the Hampton Inn right near the port....I'm going to keep trying to see if something opens up. Now I have to figure out the airlines.
:yay:

I'm surprised you were able to book this far our. Most hotels can't be booked until 11 months out. Airlines are usually 330 days and some, like Southwest only about 6-7 months. Let us know what you find. I'm sure we're all anxious to book!

We normally drive as far as manchester otherwise we get a BA flight down to heathrow the night before. Coming back we will just hire a car from manchester to get us home. Virgin have also started doing connecting flights from manchester so that's another option which would allow us to leave our cars there.

Have loads of virgin miles so can get nice seats on the long flight to the west coast :-)

If the MNSSHP schedule is the same as this year there should be some the weekend we disembark :-)

I am thinking we're going to do Southwest or Jet Blue. The whole luggage thing makes me nervous because 2 weeks means more clothes. Although we will probably do laundry on board. And I think I said I'm slowly making a super first aide kit because I am clumsy.

According to Cheapoair.com I can't book flights until 11 months out. Looks like it's around $340 round trip from NY to San Diego then Orlando back to NY. not too bad. I'm anxious to see what it will be once the flights open up for that time frame. :badpc:

My Mom (bjkjoy) and myself (julylady) will be joining you on this cruise. We were on the westbound Panama cruise in May of 2008 and really enjoyed it! We are avid cruisers and have taken two cruises in the past year (Hawaii POA and RCCL Allure). After the week on the mega Allure, we decided we wanted our next cruise to be on one of the smaller, classic ships.

We both live in West Michigan, about 30 miles apart. I am in my late fifties still working full time. My Mom is, well, is old enough to be my Mom. We typically travel with assorted grandchildren in tow, so a trip this long with just the two of us will be a big change. We are going to WDW at the end of the month for the Food and Wine festival. Very excited for that!

We are looking forward to getting to know you all!
