Snake on Space Mtn

This sounds fishy to me. PeterPanic had some good points plus a ride CM said that they never heard of this.

I read the Orlando Sentinel almost daily.
How did this INCIDENT not make the news, especially with social media.
Sorry, I'm not biting right now.:rotfl2:

Snopes said these things happen all the time - fake scare stories, that is. :rolleyes1

It's amazing that it's always he said/she said stories and never the 'real' person saying anything, showing pics, etc. that this is supposedly happening to. I'm not that gullible a person.

I was on ToT and after the first drop, I felt something land in my lap on my arm. I grabbed it with my other hand as we went up, and I am not kidding when I say - I FELT LITTLE LEGS (or possibly FEET??) GRAB MY ARM AND TRY NOT TO BE PULLED OFF OF IT.

I didn't even look to see what it was, I threw it forward as hard as I could. We were in the dark at the time and I still didn't see what it was. It wasn't as big as a mouse, but if it was a spider it was a BIIIG spider!

Never forgot it.

Edited to add - whoa, sounds like another story on page 3!!! Watch out on ToT!!!

Well, I guess they'll have to rename it "Snake Mountain." :joker:

How about we all remember that we live in this thing called the 'real world', and there are all sorts of unusual and unexpected insects/reptiles/amphibians/etc. around any possible corner or turn.

It's just a part of the world we live in. You know, the real one! :thumbsup2

Holy sweet moly Zehn, were you on at the same time as me??? Bc whatever was in my hand tried to hold on for dear life too, and I flung it as hard as I could too!

Oh man, now that I've read 2 stories like this I'm going to keep imagining something has fallen on me when I'm on ToT! (I do tend to have bad spider luck so I'm betting one actually will fall on me anyway)

I'm not really buying it, either.

But, with HIPPA, I don't think hospitals go out of their way to issue press releases, and Disney would rather say nothing publically about any injury.

I wouldn't worry too much, I've been on ToT countless times and it's only happened once! You would definitely know if this thing had fallen on you, it PLOPPED on my lap :scared1:

I'm just going to have to keep telling myself about the millions of people this hasn't happened to! :)

The vast majority of snakes that are native to the US slither on the ground. Snakes can climb trees but they use their scales against the bark. They wouldn't have that rough surface on the metal of SM. I was skeptical when I read the OP. While I believe there have been snakes inside of the SM building, I don't really believe this story. Wouldn't this also have been reported to the Florida Fish and Wildlife? I also am pretty sure that this would have been something that CM's and guests would have been aware of and this wouldn't be the first and only report. Call me skeptical, but some stories just don't ring true to me.

Besides, what mother would show pics of her son like that? Plus, what college age kid would send his mom those pics? None I know.

Not saying the story is true, but snakes can definitely climb metal surfaces.

Relieved that many think this is not true! :)!But now I'm disturbed by the spider & scorpion story. Worrying about these creatures is the last thing I want to do on my trip! At least we go in the winter when maybe not so many creepy crawlies are out, right? I just need to put this thread out of my mind. :)

I didn't say it wasn't possible but it's not likely. And, I don't believe it. The OP can come on and try to convince everyone it happened to her friend's son, but we don't have to believe it.

To me, this is just heresay.

Well of course it's hearsay- she heard her friend say it. Doesn't make it false. And of course you don't have to believe it- you don't have to believe the earth is round either.

Just because something is unlikely to happen doesn't mean it won't. It was very unlikely that a little child reaching for a toy under a shrub right beside a resort sidewalk would be bitten by a rattlesnake. But it happened.

Snakes go after vermin. They're known to hide out in strange places. They can climb. So it's not impossible that a snake managed to work its way up into the rafters. And I've seen snakes fall out of trees, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that this one fell out of wherever it was.

A very rare and freaky occurance: absolutely. But I see no reason to dismiss the possibility.

Um, okay. That was a bit rude. I and others don't have to believe if we don't want to. You and the OP are asking everyone to believe something one person has reported from a friend, not even first hand, with no corroborating evidence or any other witnesses.

Actually, a child reaching into/under a shrub being bitten by a snake is very believable.

BTW, I know very well about snakes. When I was six I almost stepped on a water moccasin. If my grandfather hadnt' seen it and stopped me from stepping, I would have been bitten.

Why is it so important to you that I believe it?:confused3

I also learned a long time ago that just getting one side of a story and believing every word isn't going to get you the truth.

What was rude? I said quite plainly that no one said you have to believe anything.

And it is certainly of no importance to me whether you believe it or not. I was simply stating that there is nothing in the story that disproves the claim and I see no reason to claim that it is a lie based simply on the absence of photographic proof. Benefit of the doubt and all that stuff. Why is it so important to you that this be regarded as a fabrication?

Every theme park in America has a story like this. Lake Winnepesaukah in Chattanooga has had a story about snakes falling in laps on the boat chute since I was a kid, and probably long before that. I have a hard time believing this story also, although I don't doubt the presence of these critters at WDW at all. I encounter little wood scorpions here at home quite often. If the story were real, there would/should be some kind of identification out there of said snake. I'd be very interested to know what kind it is. Either way, you're probably more likely to get struck by lightening or win the lotto than have a snake fall in your lap and bite you on a ride. Now, spiders and mice....more chance there. Hmmm....maybe that's why the snakes are all up in the rides? Hmm?:confused3;)
