Official 2013 Tower of Terror 10 Miler

Getting ready to head out and do my 10 miles...I am planning to run/walk as much as possible but if necessary will walk the last bit just to get the distance in.

I suspect I might be a little sore this afternoon. :)

Life seems to get in the way of the long run but i am doing 4 to 5 miles on the short days so don't think it will be to bad to finish and i have not seen the waiver yet either

I just did my 8 miles. My knee started bothering me at 7 miles so I did a little more walking the last mile. Aside from the knee pain when running I feel like I could run forever. So frustrating!!

Did my 7.5 walk yesterday - was feeling out of sorts so was happy I finished it.

Planning to do another one the week that we leave....

Haven't done any time trials - just plugging the distance - have been doing well in the beginning (feeling fresh) then very sluggish and tired in the middle and then well in the end (back to feeling fresh). So pretty sure I can do 10 miles - just crossing my fingers that I keep the times up.

Does anyone know if the evening run weather is bad? My sister said they pulled a lot of people on the run that just happened because of the weather.

The race will run for most all weather conditions especially since it is in the evening past the heat of the day. I have seen runD races in 28F with sleet, up to 88F. I have been on course in a deluge where the pathways in the park disappeared. The only weather delay/cancellation that may occur would be for lightning. Disney spells out the flash/bang rule on the website. To date, I am not aware of any runD event ever delayed for weather. Though with the weather we have had this summer, a lightning storm may not be out of the question. The question I have always wondered is what would happen if a thunderstorm blew in. Honestly, there is no way to house 10-24k runners pre-race and it would be even tougher mid-race.

a week before the race I will be at WDW with no access to email!
my sister registered me for the TOT so am guessing she will get the email?
I am not planning to wait til I get an email but am watching what you all say here - best and quickest way I know to hear things.

I am guessing at CR or POR the business center could check emails and print for you, right?

This is my first runDisney event so still learning the ropes. - waiver gets turned in when?

I am 100% sure that waivers will be up next week. Definitely, from what I see here, you will know when the waivers are up within the hour. Note that if for some reason you do not have your waiver or lose it you can print the waiver at the expo. It is a simple step so no fears there.

was running 7-8 this AM but a project i have went south yesterday. So I am sitting along a roadway waiting for a couple contractors to show. I left the house at 0400 and am wishing I had brought my running clothes as I have a good couple hours before they show. I am headed back to MCO late this afternoon specifically to get the run in and then back up to N FLA tomorrow. I guess this is one reason I try to get long runs over on Saturday.

Ugh, life or work.

I was supposed to go this year, but I hurt my foot again so I can't. I spent a considerable amount of time on my costume, so it's unfortunate, but I'll try again next year.

Anyone else wearing a costume? Who spent just as much time on a costume as they did on training? Sometimes I felt like that was the case for me especially since I didn't figure out how to dye Nike dry fit fabric until the third try.

Omg! We dont get much lightening storms and the last time i was at wdw for flower and garden there was a deluge and wind that felt like a hurricane! Kinda exciting and kinda spooky.

We usually hv great weather and the rain is like over in 10 minutes so thanks for letting me know what to anticipate as my walking coaches were asking me and i had no clue.

:( I can not believe I broke my toe. It happen at home not running I was just getting over that pain issue on the top of my foot and now this. The longest run /walk I have only got up to is 8 miles. Oh well I am still going to do the race. Hopefully I can just walk really fast and not be last. felt sorry for myself yesterday.

I hope everyone else is having great runs.
I hope I get sent the waiver soon.
I am also doing the 5 k with my kid so it should be interesting.

Thanks for all the support on my last post it does help.

Everyone have a great day.:goodvibes

I live in Florida and am used to running in the heat and humidity. I did some night runs when training for the 2011 Wine and Dine half (my first 1/2) which was the same weekend as the ToT is now) What helped me the most was reverse cycling my eating on race day. I had a big breakfast (eggs & pancakes) around 9am, then a smaller lunch around 1pm (chicken pasta salad) and just fruit and salad around 6pm with a small snack about 8:30 pm with lots of fluids and rest during the day.

Would you consider the lazy river at typhoon lagoon rest? That's how I'm planning on spending my pre-race day.

A friend told me today that "lazy is just resting before you are tired" so yes, I think that counts :)

Sounds good i figured it has lazy in its name so it must count.

Also can anyone refresh my memory what time we had to be to ESPN last year. I really want to plan a nap at some point after TL but also need to eat.

You could probably sell your fabric-dying secret and get back some of the money you're out!

How do you feel?

I got to go to the running shoe store because the inserts I got are NOT working for me. Had them redone and ended up getting entirely different shoes. Please oh please let this work for me....

Running back and forth in different shoes isn't the most fun thing to do the day after a 10 mile stint on the treadmill!

It sounds restful, but for me, I would be tired from the heat and sun. It might be hard to stay hydrated enough to run in the evening humidity. It can easilY still be 80 digress at 10pm.

I got my 10 mile run in this morning. Finished in just under two hours :goodvibes

My first ADR is a late lunch at Mama Melrose with the Fantasmic package for 10/3. I can sleep in the next morning before heading to the Expo.

Good for you! :cool1: We arrive on 10/3 but not til 8:00 at night so I won't be heading to the expo until Friday. I love to look around but at marathon weekend it was a madhouse! I want to look at the sparkle skirts and hopefully get one if I can get into their booth.

::yes:: Totally agree - my goal last year was to stay out of the sun and heat as much as possible, in addition to being off my feet. I watched football at the resort and took a nap. Planning to do the same this year. :thumbsup2

Ugh, hope the new-new ones work out!

I found the Final Instructions here - runners had to be on a race bus at ESPN by 8pm to make it to the corrals on time.

Oh no! I'm so sorry. Hopefully, the pain will dissipate by then - crossing my fingers for you!

Still no sign of waivers... :surfweb:

Meanwhile - it's feeling a bit like Groundhog Day to me... gues who's battling IT Band Syndrome heading into TOT - AGAIN??? Yep, this lady. In the opposite leg. I'm starting to feel like this stupid race is jinxed. :worried::sad:

It's early - and I won't try to run through it this time - so I'm cautiously hopeful that I can get things mostly repaired by race day. But I suspect I'll need to approach this race as more of a fun run than the PR buster I'd been planning. Maybe, if the stars align and my body's willing, I can take it easy at TOT and nail my half three weeks later.

Good grief!! What is it with you and ToT?!? :(

PR or fun run, I will venture a guess from reading your posts: you will make it as great an experience as possible for yourself no matter what, and then continue to share your gained wisdom with grateful DISers here like myself! :thumbsup2

:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes to you, from me!!

PS. Do you use a foam roller to roll out those nasty IT bands before and after running? My physical therapist suggested this to me and so far, so good... *fingers crossed*...

Carolyn, you ROCK! Thanks so much for that - I needed it! Yep, I foam roll religiously - before and after every run, twice daily even if I don't run. Sometimes thrice, for good measure. :rotfl: I went to my chiro this morning and my right hip was WAY out of alignment; just having her jam it back into place relived a lot of tension in my ITB. I've been "off" ever since a very long, intensive yoga session last week and I suspect the resulting tightness, plus my sprained LCL plus new, - albeit better - shoes was just the wrong combination of stuff at the wrong time. NOTHING NEW BEFORE A RACE!!!!! When will I get that through my dense head?! :rolleyes2
