I just found out that Disneyworld no longer does birthday promotions! Just a birthday button. Is this true.
We were going to celebrate my grandsons birthday there in Nov

I don't know what you mean by promotion, by I celebrated my birthday last month there and I just got a button. I ate at boma that day and got a little special dessert but not all disney restaurants do that. If you want to surprise him go to disneyflorist.com . They have different packages that can be delivered to your hotel room. :)

I think the OP may be talking about the get in the parks free on your birthday promotion. Not sure if there were any others :confused3 but I was disappointed to find out that that's been discontinued for something like 3 years. We are going for dd15's birthday in November as well and thought we would look for anything new but it seems like there's only the button.

Type in disney world celebrations in google and click on the first website. It Can help you celebrate birthdays more. You can order special cakes and baskets of fun things. The cast members are really nice and always tell you happy birthday. Other than that, there is nothing else. You still have to pay for everything.

What? You used to get in the parks for free on your birthday? I have celebrate my past five birthdays there and i paid to go in every year! If that is true then my guess is that people were abusing the birthday system and lie about their birthdays. People always abuse the systems. This is why we now have RFID chips in drink cups now. -.-

It was only a 1 year promotion and you had to provide proof of birth date.

Yes it was only a one year promotion. We were there that year and had to bring my son's birth certificate . Because we purchased a package and had paid for our tickets , room. , etc - they issued him a disney gift card with the amount of a one day ticket on it.

Over the years. I've gotten free sundaes in a couple of spots. One was Beaches & Cream (take out line) & the other was an ice cream parlor in EPCOT. Got to love the Birthday button. :dance3:

What were you hoping for? Aside from 2009, there was nothing specific for being in the park on your birthday.

By getting and wearing the button, you'll often be greeted by a "Happy Birthday". And in some cases, maybe get just a little extra magic - but I wouldn't expect anything - it's more magical when its unexpected.

For birthdays, anniversies, honeymoons, and other celebrations . . .

1) It is a matter of the CM's personal initiative.
. . . depends upon how much they like you as a guest
. . . it always helps to wear a Happy Birthday button
. . . depends if they feel like doing anything special today
. . . depends upon the phase of the moon
2) CM's can do a lot, or they can do nothing at all - they have immense control.
. . . they are under no obligation to give goodies
. . . they are under no obligation to even acknowledge your special day
. . . but, they can go way overboard and give lots of gifts to a guest
. . . list the event on the ADR or hotel ressie, and hope for the best
3) The CM's have a lot of leeway of things to do or not do for you if they wish
4) Some of the things a CM can do for free are
. . . table with Mickey confetti
. . . best table location
. . . special personalized menu
. . . character-autographed birthday cards
. . . balloons
. . . wine or champagne or Shirley Temples
. . . appetizers or desserts
. . . cakes
. . . cupcake with candle (almost always available for the asking)
. . . placemats autographed by characters
. . . free appy or free dessert
. . . ride an attraction with a character
5) Other items CM's can give for free
. . . room full of balloons and/or flowers
. . . fruit basket or wine basket in hotel room
. . . individual fastpasses or booklets of several fastpasses
. . . food and snack items (candy, popcorn, sundries)
. . . room uogrades
. . . attraction rides with characters
6) If you want something special (cakes, etc) buy them instead of hoping for them.

NOTE: Hundreds or even thousands of folks are celebrating everyday
at WDW. If they gave an item to all of them it would be too much time
and too much money.

Like other posters I too am wondering what you were expecting for birthday promotions...,

Last year I was celebrating mine, I had my button, so I got a million birthday wishes from CMs, special deserts at several of our table service dinners, and at teppan edo I got a paper chefs hat.

Birthday questions for you all my birthday is the last of our 7 day trip would it be wrong for me to wear a birthday button all week? I'm so excited haven't been to Disney in 5 years and I actually get to be there on my birthday:banana::banana::banana::banana:

I'm just so excited!!!!

Yes, 2009, they did a promotion to get in free on your birthday. Too bad too because I saw a marked decrease in attendance in 2008, then that promotion increased attendance like crazy. In fact a friend of mine who is an accountant for Disneyland said it was the most successful promotion they ever did. One person may have gotten in free, but all their friends/family paid. The next year they did "give a day, get a day". You signed up with one of their approved volunteer organizations, signed up to volunteer for a day, and received in exchange a one day pass to Disneyland. They had every one of their promotion days signed up by the end of March. It was supposed to be a whole year.

Back to what they do for birthdays. They used to give you a dozen tortillas at the Tortilla factory in DCA. They also used to give you a free cookie at the bakery with any purchase. We would buy a Biscoti for $.99 and get a $3.50 cookie for free. All these benefits have ended. Now you really only get a button and maybe a small, free dessert, and a LOT of birthday wishes.

No, absolutely not. Wear that button ALL week. Many people get their button if they're there to celebrate their birthday even if it's not on their actual birthday.

Be Excited and Enjoy that Birthday, we went September 19th - 25th last year, my Birthday is on the 5th, and I wore the button everywhere! I was there to celebrate!

We were there 7/7-7/14 and my dad's birthday was 7/11. He wore his button from the first day until his birthday and then stopped after that. He received countless "Happy Birthdays" from cast members and even a few guests. If you are staying on site I would recommend making sure that you give Disney a call and have them add the birthday to your reservations. We did this and when we got to the hotel there was a message on our answering machine from Mickey telling us to enjoy our celebration and on my dad's actual birthday there was one of Mickey and Minnie singing Happy Birthday...they were pretty cute! One day housekeeping also left an autographed picture of Mickey for him. We ate at 50s Prime Time Cafe for his birthday and he received a free cupcake. He may not have received Ny huge perks, but all of the little things definitely added up and my dad had a pretty awesome day!

We are going to be in the MK for my daughters 5th birthday :cheer2: does anyone know of places there that may do something special for her (or a free dessert)?!

I have had every intention of doing Be Our Guest for my 40th (try the grey stuff), but Boma is a favorite, so maybe... Still a few years away.
