NEW RULES REGARDING DROP-OFF OF ECV's, etc: (eff 9/1/13)

Can a non-preferred vendor drop off a stroller/ baby-related hard goods to Cast on behalf of a Guest?
. . . No, the vendor needs to arrange a time to meet their Guest directly. Cast Members should explain the policy to the vendor and refer them to an ECV / Stroller / Baby-Related Hard Goods Guidelines buck slip.
. . . Baby-related hard goods include, but are not limited to, rented cribs and their accessories, rented baby toys, playpens, booster seats and high chairs, car seats and travel systems and their accessories, baby activity devices, diaper genies and changing tables, etc. that have been rented from a vendor.
. . . Baby consumables like diapers, formula, baby food, pacifiers, etc. are not
considered baby-related hard goods. All vendors dropping off these types of items can continue to do so at this time.

So if I am reading this right, Apple Strollers can still be dropped off at the hotel bell captain. Right?? And thank you for posting this information!

Laura

We have used Walker mobility for the past 7 years and will continue to use them. The last trip we had to make arrangements to meet them and that was very easy. They arrived within 10 minutes of the arranged time. We were staying at OKW and we just met right outside the bell station. I know we could use Disney approved vendors, but their products do not break down and stow as easy as Walker. Walker has the best customer service if there is a problem. We will never use another vendor as long as Walker will still service Disney.

1st time posting...I thought I had everything all set! We are going in 10 days (arrive 9/7),already got the MagicBands in the mail, made my FP+ reservations for everyday and now THIS has me worried. I ordered an ECV for my Mom from Buena Vista Scooters, which is on the list so I'm OK :thumbsup2, but I ordered a stroller for my DD 3 from Orlando Stroller Rental, which is not on the list :confused3. Have not received anything from Orlando Stoller about this. Should I just hope its there like it was the last 3 times I ordered from them or should I call and see what they say???

This actually started for ECVs on November 1, 2012.
At the time that was announced, it was expected to also include strollers at some time in the future.

This is copied fom the disABILITIES FAQs thread:
NOTE: Some of the companies have items that may not be on their website. So if you like a company and they do not show exactly what you are looking for, email or call them and ask. The website may show only the most popular or commonly rented.

As of November 1, 2012, WDW Resorts have a new policy regarding ECV and wheelchair delivery to their resorts:
Preferred Vendors are welcome to check equipment with Bell Services for guest retrieval and return.
Preferred vendors reportedly include: Apple Scooters, Best Price Mobility, Buena Vista Scooters, CARE Medical, and Scooterbug
Non-preferred vendors are welcome to do business on Disney property, but they must hand the equipment directly to the guest, and collect the equipment directly from the guest.

Here's some key facts:
Disney is trying to limit their liability for leased property on their property.
Disney used a 3rd party company to collect information about companies that do rental business on Disney property.
Bid packets were sent to a number of primarily ECV rental companies.
The approval process included business verification, insurance verification, and equipment inspection.
Bidding is now closed, and current contracts last for 2 years.
I have also heard that Disney had 2 other goals - one was to limit the speed of the scooters and the other was to limit the size (to make sure they fit on buses and in queues).
I have heard that the Preferred Vendors also agreed that a certain percentage of their scooters would meet the speed and size guidelines. Some very well known and used companies were not able to replace their fleet of scooters at this time and did not meet the guidelines for Preferred Vendor for that reason.

Apple Scooter (Preferred Vendor)
(321-726-6837
http://www.applescooter.com/
Apple rents scooters and wheelchairs. Apple rents 16 inch wide wheelchairs. These are suitable for smaller people (and children) between 80 and 125 pounds. Also rent single and double strollers. Apple has many good reviews.

Buena Vista (Preferred Vendor) - see above. Also rent single and double strollers.

Care Medical (Preferred Vendor):
http://www.caremedicalequipment.com/
Phone (407) 856-2273 " Toll Free U.S and Canada (800) 741-2282
Care is a full Service Medical Company. They rent ECVs, wheelchairs, power wheelchairs (for guests who are familiar with and use one at home), walkers, companion chairs, strollers, special needs strollers, bath equipment, commodes, beds, among other things

Best Price Mobility (Preferred Vendor, but little feedback from DIS posters)
http://www.bpmobility.com Also rent single and double strollers.

Scooterbug (Preferred Vendor, but no feedback from DIS posters) From what I can tell, this company provides single and double strollers, wheelchairs and ECVs for the WDW parks; and probably pool chairs. They also rent the large grey ECVs that can be rented in the parks, plus a form of Standing ECV that guests can drive from a standing position.

Forgot to add -
It took a while from the time that it was announced that only certain ECV providers would be allowed to drop off at Bell Services until the names of the companies were announced.
I would expect it will also take a while until they announce the Preferred stroller rental places. I have seen some posts on the Family Board where people were contacted by the place théy rented from and were told thy would have to meet to get their stroller

does anyone remember the name of the rental company that keeps a few scooters, strollers and wheelchairs at the boardwalk?

i found them to be great to deal with, but can not remember who they are in order to place an order.

I think that is Buena Vista.

I thought it was interesting that a couple weeks ago I saw a non-approved vendor, I think Walker, dropping off ECVs at SSR in sort of a holding area, but not with Bell Services, and it didn't look like they stuck around to wait for the guests to pick up...

I was disappointed to learn about the preferred vs. non-preferred. We've used Walker several times and been very satisfied with the scooters and the companies customer service. But the convenience of not having to be there was a huge part of the reason we chose them. Now I don't know what to do for our late September trip.

I emailed Disney and had the following reply about preferred vendors for strollers:
Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World® Resort.

For your convenience, we suggest these featured providers of strollers,
as well as other offerings you may find helpful during your stay with
us.

Does this have any effect on personal scooters? I just bought my wife a used BuenaVista Scooter, and they'll be dropping it off for us when we go down to Disney in October. I guess the fact they will be dropping it off would be ok...but can you bring down you own scooters still? If not, that would effect our next trip.

Bringing personal equipment is not affected.
Did she plan to leave it at Bell Services for some reason?
If so, they could say that they are not accepting responsibility for it and suggest you leave it in the room while not using it.

Buena Vista is a featured ECV provider, so whether you are renting or buying from them, they should be able to leave it for you.

The earlier list was for ECV companies, not strollers. A list of stroller companies were listed a couple of posts ago, and Orlando Stroller Rentals is on the list.

Thank you for your insight!

No, I don't think she's going to leave it at Bell Services. I just got a little concerned because this trip is a little unique with the scooter in that we're having one delivered for us to use. Prior trips we just rented from the parks. We realized the downside is you can only use those scooters at the parks so we decided to go with Buena Vista so she can use it all over in Disney. Of course, then we learned they were selling older models cheap and just took the plunge because the need isn't going away for us so why bother renting every time. It was literally the difference of $240/wk to rent or buy one for $300. No brainer!
