Do you work out during your trip?

Congratulations on the weight loss!

I do almost no formal exercise while at WDW. We are zig-zagging crazy park hoppers and the 10+miles we walk every day (78.4 on our seven day December trip) is more than enough for me. I do engage in a very brief (maybe 10 minutes) yoga routine both morning and night. All the standing makes me sore if I don't keep myself limber and stretched out during the trip.

I think the walking helps with the rich foods. I don't worry too much about my eating habits while at WDW and definitely consume lots of stuff I rarely eat while there (particularly sugar). I make sure to drink lots of water, avoid soda, and eat 2 pieces of fruit a day (plus any and all vegetables that appear with my meals). I also usually share appetizers, snacks, and drinks and often have a second appetizer in lieu of an entree at table service restaurants. I do OK digestively as long as I drink the water. And I usually come back from a trip a few pounds lighter.

We did not last time we went. Between all the walking and one of us carrying a child of varying weights throughout the trip, we didn't need it. We ate whatever we wanted for the trip and gained 0 pounds.

WooHoo, awesome job on the weight loss. I really only do stretching when on a walking vacation like Disney, plus I swim when I get the chance. I didn't gain weight last time at Disney despite all the snacks and desserts. Too much walking (and occasionally running for FPs - I was the designated pass getter).

Thanks for the replies! I think I'll try and change it up. Maybe hit the gym one or twice but make an effort to get in the pool everyday too and not just float lol. We are getting back on December 21 right before Christmas! So I'm stacking the deck this year with eating bad! I alaways get right back on the wagon after my trips!

I do a lot of strength training, but I don't lift when I'm on vacation. With high intensity training it's good for your overall health to take a week off every 12 weeks or so. Periodically your body needs time to recover. I usually come back from my week long layoffs stronger. Even pro athletes take time off from training now and then.

I take the week off from formal weight training and HIIT. But I am the fast pass runner and try to eat semi-healthy during the week

Since you are going in dec. the weather wont be hot and humid. I would suggest a real walk around a resort or plan after meals a 30 min. Walk not stroll from one ride to another but a fast paced walk. Esp after a huge evening meal.

Though i am constantly trying to lose a d work out alot at home. But at disney I have never done anything. I also eat probably triple normal calories per day as we are on dining plan. I HAVE NEVER GAINED. !:). But kept stable. So I say enjoy yourself and put no pressure on.

Ps. I would love to run the PoR and FQ loop, but befinning sept is just too hot and humid for me!!

I haven't in the past, but this trip and I planning on running a few times and will try to hit the gym for weight training once or twice. I do not want to gain any Disney/vacation weight.

I almost always run and do try to use the fitness center if I'm staying at a resort with one. I'm often down there for a race so depending on the circumstances and duration of my stay my workout might be a half or full marathon.

I consider the walking at Disney active recovery, not a workout.

You have the same plan as me. I started a running regime over the summer and jut ran my first 5 k last weekend. Ultimately, I'm training for the Enchanted 10 k and I really really don't want to get out of my routine while on vacation. A few runs and maybe the gym at CSR during my stay will hopefully keep me on track!

Interesting thread...there are lots of ways to stay active at Disney. My DH, who doesn't take time to work out during the work week loves working out at Disney. So...he either gets up very early and hits the workout room, or does it during an afternoon break. I am more likely to do weights but try to avoid more time on my feet. On our last trip, we brought a stretching DVD that we did a few times in our room.

Last trip, I was pregnant and we went with our 2 year old who hated the stroller, so between walking and having to carry him from time to time, we didn't do any formal exercise. When we went to the pool, I did swim some laps.

Last Sept I was in the middle of a Squat challenge during my trip! So I was doing upwards of 100 squats between the morning and evenings. I've always felt a little better if I keep more active on a Disney trip!

I'll usually throw out some squats, lunges, crunches, etc in the room, and maybe go for a quick run in the morning if I'm up early enough. I do however try to keep my food healthy and my "treats" to once a day! It helps with the tummy aches haha

Oddly I never gain weight at Disney, even with all of the gorging we do. LOL I'm assuming it's because of all the walking you do in general around Disney.

And normally no, I don't workout, but these next few trips I'll have to because I'm training for the Princess 1/2 marathon. I don't want to get behind.

Disney has tons of walking/running tracks.

I always say I will, but my batting average of seeing it through isn't very good. It's such a pain to go back to the gym after a week off, so hopefully this year I'll actually follow through. I probably won't push myself to exhaustion, but a mile and a half jog every morning coupled with a handful of push-ups seems realistic.

I normally work out 6 days a week at home and am an early bird exerciser. This past trip I only worked out twice at the gym. Both times I did some cardio on the treadmill and then some weights, but I skipped leg weights since I knew I was going to be in the parks walking. I wish I had worked out more, not for the weight loss, but just to keep me on my exercise regimen. I have had a difficult time getting back into the swing of things since my trip.

Aside from the massive amounts of walking or course. I have lost 99 lbs and of course exercise has been a big part of that. I'm trying to decide if I work out a few times if that will over exert myself and make me more tired or if it will help me giving me extra energy cuz lets face it the diet is always off during disney. Sadly I know all that rich food will make me lethargic (still worth it lol) just wondering what others do?

We do a lot of walking at the parks like everyone else does (8-12 miles per day), but we also like to take time to swim or take evening walks around the resorts if we have the energy, too. As far as food goes, we always eat a healthy breakfast in the room, bring healthy snacks and one meal (either lunch or dinner) to the parks, and at the restaurants, choose the healthier options like salad or grilled meat/veggie items, or if I want a splurge, I don't eat ALL of the not-so-healthy item. So for example, I'll be going to Raglan Road in a few weeks and I want to try their gluten-free fish and chips. Of course, fish and chips are fried, sooooo not so healthy. I'm going to be sure that that meal is my splurge of the day, incorporating a lot of healthier things like fruits and veggies in my other meals. AND, I'm not going to eat EVERYTHING that's put in front of me- no need!

I have, but not usually. However, on my next trip I plan to do a couple of miles after other day and maybe lift weights. I think it would be nice to have some quiet time and away from the parks. : )

After losing more than 100lbs 8 years ago, I *always* work-out while on vacation. I work out daily at home, I figure a vacation is no different. I've used the fitness centers in three Disney resort areas across the world and I've used all the ones at the deluxe hotels and the Coronado Springs. :rotfl:

All the walking is easier because I'm so active and I figure anything I do in the Parks is extra to combat the extra calories and treats I'm having.

I don't work out but the DW might.

I have used a pedometer a couple of times at WDW and I was walking at least 8-12 miles a day. It helped that on one trip, I requested the room the farthest from the lobby at AKL. The pedometer said it was 1/4 mile one way from the room to the bus stop! :cool1::rotfl:

I think one could easily walk 20 miles each day at WDW. We go to morning EMH and leave the parks around lunch time. Sometimes we go back to EPCOT for dinner which helps increase the miles walked. Now, I am the FP runner so I do walk more than the family which I do on purpose since some family members have mobility issues. But if we spent a full day in the park I am sure I would be walking 15-20 miles.

Course, I am also in the pool with the kids which burns up calories too, but these are not easily counted.

Later,
Dan
