Canadian Buffoon European Vacation - 30/03 - Endings and Silver Linings

Don't know how to quote on my phone!

I plan to take him, we want to show him our old haunts and he wants to see Norway as well.

Yes, the wall was up, and we went through Checkpoint Charlie and saw some of East Berlin. Very depressing, and nerve wracking for DH, who had to be in uniform the whole time. You could see cameras on every building, and I am sure a good many of them were trained on us!

Looking forward to reading about the new Germany, so I can get some ideas on how best to plan our trip.

I'm guessing you saw some Disney stores while over there. I know there's one in Venice so maybe there are others.

I've been when the wall was up... but that was when I was 10, so it didn't have as great an impact. We also went not long after it came down... that was... odd.

Interesting... I never even thought of that. But... yes... and no... and yes... but it's not what I was referring to.

The plot thickens...

Okay, so here's my problem

I could probably have a chapter up within a couple of days now that I've got the photos organized....

but how soon do you want one?

Too fast and people get frustrated because they can't keep up, too slow and people drop out 'cause it's, well, too slow.

Thoughts?

Posting an update every 5 - 7 days should work great. You'll get done with the report eventually and still give us all a chance to truly enjoy your adventures. So, given that you posted a chapter on Friday, the next one should be Tuesday at the earliest. All that said, just do whatever works for you. :) :thumbsup2

There's one in Rome too for anyone planning a trip. :)

:woohoo:Checking in! popcorn:: Glad you made it back and had a safe and fun trip.
I think you may be able to change Ruby's mind somewhat about WDW, in a word, SPA! get her gift cards for the spa while you and the kids hit the parks. Hey it is worth a try right?

Hey :wave2: this looks like a good place to hang out until Nebo feels better :cool2:

I haven't read this all since I'm late to the party, but we're trying out the bands and fastpass+ in a couple of weeks. I'm not planning to change anything .... I could stand in a 60 minute line by the time it would take me to figure out how to change it on my smart phone

Hi Betsey! :wave2: Welcome aboard.

That's a really good idea.... and I'll pass it along....

But it's starting to sound like she wants to go after all!

The idea was that for Elle's graduation, I would take her and her friend.
Then Ruby says, "Well, I'd like to go too."

:hyper:

Apparently, Elle told her that while the three of us did rope drop and all the scurrying around that entails, she could sleep in and relax then meet us for lunch.

She liked the idea.

She also liked the FP+ idea (so no running of the bulls... her comment? "I love TSMM!") and I'm betting she'd love the spa idea too.

But where's the spa in WDW?

Hi Steph! Welcome! You haven't missed much yet, we haven't made it out of the house yet! :rotfl:

You'll have to tell us how the FP+ went. We don't have smart phones (heck... we don't have phones that work in the States!) so we wouldn't make changes either.

Plus, now that I think about it.... if you have to make ADRs well in advance for CRT or Le Cellier, you wouldn't change them, right?
So if you make a FP for TSMM, would you try and change it? Good luck!

The sooner the better IMO. I learned from our TR that if you start dragging it out too long, you start to forget details. Best to post as quickly as possible while the memories are still recent. At your age, you can't afford to wait.

Besides people should be sitting by their computers just waiting for you to post a chapter. :hyper: If they can't keep up, then they need to invest in a smartphone and download the Dis app. Plus this will help prepare them for FP+.

Well I thought it was a good suggestion anyways.

There is a spa at the Grand Floridian and at Saratoga Springs. There is also an awesome spa at the Swolphin.

Okay! Thanks for that. I'll definitely look into those. I can see her getting a nice mani/pedi or whatever, while the rest of us are sprinting to and fro in a park.

Oh. Now you're calling him dear?

I would like to clarify this. Lady H was referring to both she and Ruby letting their husbands plan the vacations. So when she said, "Whatever you want dear", she was referring to what she would say to you.

But she did call me 'hun'.

Missed that one, huh?

That was probably a shot.... except at my age it's simply the truth!

:stir:

I'm here and joining in! I loved your trip to Hawaii so I can't wait to read about this one! :yay::yay:

Hey! The Goose is loose! Welcome aboard!

Do an update now! Like you said, you haven't even gotten on the plane!

After more thought I think you saw that castle in Germany. That's the Disney connection.

And I have an iPhone now so can keep up on that.

Hi Steph! Welcome! You haven't missed much yet, we haven't made it out of the house yet! :rotfl:

You'll have to tell us how the FP+ went.

Hi Back :wave2:

I'll give you a preview ...

Aren't they purty??? And no, if I get a fastpass+ for Toy Story I will not be changing it :snooty:

Why the heck is this picture so big??? I did resize it :rolleyes2

But where's the spa in WDW?

As previously mentioned, Grand and Saratoga. But I'll do you one better, you can get a free taxi voucher at your resort to take you there and back. At least used, to pretty you still can, but I will double check.

Also, if you have FP+ and no phone - no problem, the Concierge at the hotel or guest relations kiosks at the parks let you make any changes you want for fast passes AND dining.

Funny story, I did a test check in today at my hotel as we are going to go into testing next week (getting the CM's used to various scenarios).

So I picked just any old fast passes for today for Epcot since I wasn't really going. I picked Turtle Talk, Captain EO and Soarin'. Once back at my desk, I logged into my newly created account and clicked on "Change Fast Passes". It suggested to me as available: Test Track, Mission Space Orange, and Soarin'!!! Alrighty then. Plus it groups them together by time period and gives you choices as well, like AM, PM, etc and even knows when you have dining reservations and schedules around those.
I think this is shaping up as a great trip for Ruby :rolleyes1

PS: did I mention you can get fast passes (reserved spots) for Fireworks and parades too? And Princess and Mickey meet and greets, but i', guessing your family is probably past the M&G's.

PPS: I'm ready for you next chapter now :)

Give that lady a cheroot. We have a winnah!!

Hi Back :wave2:

::yes:: Actually, that's pretty cool. Especially that they even personalized them.

And no, if I get a fastpass+ for Toy Story I will not be changing it :snooty:

I know, right?

Boy, that'd make it convenient!

Also, if you have FP+ and no phone - no problem, the Concierge at the hotel or guest relations kiosks at the parks let you make any changes you want for fast passes AND dining.

Ya don't have to sell me on it, lady... I'm already psyched.

Oh, wait. That's psycho.

All right, I'm thrilled. How's that?

Plus it groups them together by time period and gives you choices as well, like AM, PM, etc and even knows when you have dining reservations and schedules around those.

Pretty impressive.

::yes::

Yeah, even when they went last time (12 & 8) they weren't that interested. But really not interested now.

But last time we were there, our ADR at Crystal Palace ran late/long and we got out only 10 minutes or so before the parade. We had a heck of a time finding someplace to watch. A nice family offered curb space for the DDs while Ruby & I stood a little farther back. Being able to FP parades is a great idea.

PPS: I'm ready for you next chapter now :)

Do an update now! Like you said, you haven't even gotten on the plane!

Okay! Okay! I'll get to work on it, hopefully tomorrow.

I mean I'll start working on it tomorrow, don't know if I'll finish it tomorrow or not....

Besides... mmeb144 says no earlier then Tuesday, so....
