Yeah
Bizarre!
By the way, you can't generally get a copy of those keys made.
I will continue to use the safe, it's safer then most of the other ideas I see on here. But as usual folks will let one incident determine their future actions. As someone who has used hotel safes extensively with no issues the odds seem to be on my side that a safe is safer then carrying lots of cash, "attempting" to hide my valuables in my suitcase te...
As for the prepaid credit card, check the fees!!

Is it a USA thing? I'm from the UK
You know maybe it'll be worth the £4-£6 charge on my debit card if it means my cash is safe...
You can buy them in any drug store, grocery store, etc. here
Thank you so much, definitely be using that!

If you're going to set up a surveillance camera to catch a housekeeper breaking into a safe, don't you think you would have it pointed at the safe? Dimwits. This is a link to the article from the Orlando Sentinel with some more details:

It does not specify how she got in the safe.
Ooo.. don't do that. Purchase a Visa Vanilla One card and put the money on that.
Won't that make it hard to convert any left over back? You will have to use the whole card before returning home. Then, if you run out and need more cash you'll feel the need to buy a new "vanilla" card (and pay another fee). Personally, it's not worth the fee for me. This kind of thing happens so rarely that I wouldn't worry about it or take any extra precautions to protect my money in the locked safe.Thank you so much, definitely be using that!

I know the safe was locked. But the act of a housekeeper stealing from a locked safe is very, very, very (etc, etc, etc) rare. Think about how many people stay at Disney properties and how many times have you read about thefts for a locked safe? Bxccah will be perfectly safe keeping her cash locked up instead jumping through a bunch of hoops to get a vanilla card and the paying some company for the pleasure of using her own money. The safe was locked. I believe if she needs more cash she can add to it and not have to buy another card. Yes probably another fee but safer than keeping money around. If there is still money on the card when her trip is over I do believe she can go to an ATM and do a cash advance to get the money out.
People worry way too much about things. We have left laptops, phones, video games, DVD players, coins, and trading pins in our rooms. Cards and cash are in the save. Never once has anything been taking.
