Tipping Info Thread for Disney Dining

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'm not sure how to search for it (new to the boards). I've got all of my ADR's for our party of 2, and there are some buffets (Crystal Palace, Beiergarten, Boma). I'm not used to eating at buffets in real life, so I'm not sure if you are supposed to tip at a buffet. My husband thinks that since you get your own food instead of being served, tip isn't necessary, but I thought that I'd ask what the norm is. Is there even a server to tip at those places? This is our first Disney trip, so I've never been to any of these places. Thanks.

Yes you will have a server at all buffets. They have just as much work to do at your table as an a la carte restaurant server has. On the bottom of your receipt there will be suggested tip amounts of 18 and 20%. This is the norm and standard of all WDW table service restaurants.
Enjoy your trip!

I keep reading threads about the DDP, hoping I will figure everything out before I go, but I think I'm just getting more confused. There is no way I can read through all 45 pages of this, I tried to read most of it, but I'm not understanding a couple things about the tipping aspect. If it's just me and my friend going, can we get separate checks if we are on the dining plan and sharing a room? When we go to pay for the tip, can we pay separately how ever we want to? If it is or has to be charged to the room, can we do two credit cards on one room?

I'm new to DIS - so please let me know if I should be on another thread - nicely:rotfl: I would like to budget my money for the majority of the trip and would like to leave cash for tips. I'm confused w/the menus that I read re: the prices for buffets - most range between $36.00 to $59.00 or close to. Ok this is a buffet should'nt I beable to get the amounts for an adult buffet and child - We have buffet meals at the following:

Crystal Palace - breakfast - 2 adults and 1 child
Crystal Palace - LUNCH - 2 adults and 1 child
Tusker HOuse - BREAKFAST - 2 adults 1 child
Hollywood and Vine - Breakfast - 2 adults 1 child

Can anyone help me with what the cost of the buffet actually is??:worship:
Thanks for all of your help!!!!

The price fluctuates based on the time of year (peak seasons vs regular season), and on the day of the week (weekday vs weekend).

The Menus at allears.com will give the range for each specific meal.

Why not just figure it based on the most expensive price? That way, if it ends up being less you'll have a little bit of extra money.

But if you want to see exact costs of buffets, see this thread:

Prices for later dates than those shown in the thread have not been released yet.

Just wanted to say a few quick things I have noticed about dining tipping at WDW...

1. The receipts make it very easy to put in your own amount (if a party less than 6). They offer the math for you at 18 and 20 so if you want to go higher or lower I guess you can. You also get a copy once you have selected the price you want.

2. I have only had one experience where the service was not great and it was not as bad as places at home...Just very busy and too many tables at once.

3. I sometimes feel like my severs at buffet work harder because they are constantly bringing drinks and clearing plates or asking fi we need anything.

THIS THREAD has been most helpful with reminding me of things.

Ate twice park fare character dining this week

1. Dinner on dining plan. Gratuity SUGGESTED. Party of 4.
2. Breakfast out of pocket with cm discount. Gratuity auto ADDED. Party of 5.

I am confused. What is the diff here?

The difference is you used your CM discount. Whenever a discount is used the grat is automatically added

All Ears is saying that the tip is included at LTT dinner, is that true? I only thought it was HDDR, CRT and room service. Any other places have gratuity included?

No, not true. Luau tip is included

we are a party of 7
we have the dining plan

when we eat at a TS restaurant, I am assuming the tip will automatically be included since we are a party of 7. Is this correct, and is it 18% or 20% that they will add to the bill? this can still be charged to our room, correct?

thanks!!
