**BEST FRIENDS PET CARE KENNEL at DISNEY WORLD FAQ**

Hi!

We will be vacationing the last week of September and first week of October 13. We have a very hyper Jack Russell called Benson. We are considering bringing him down with us and putting him in Best Friends rather than the kennel we use at home. As we are driving bringing him with us means he will not be in the boarding kennel quite as long.

I am leaning towards a Villa for Benson, as he will be staying 14 nights and I feel he will need the extra space. Benson boy is a rescue dog and does not play well with other dogs especially when toys are involved, we are trying to work on his socialization, but he does not want to share the toys and will get aggressive with the other dogs who have the toys. So I am hoping we can swap the "playgroup" with personal "playtime" each day in the villa package. Other than this issue he is great boy.

We also plan to stop by and take him for a walk on the leash trail each day.

Does anyone have any other tips or suggestions for his stay? Thanks!

Can we come in and walk our dog during his stay? My D is very very attached to her dog and likewise he to her and I know she'd love it if at least once during our vacation she could go in and walk him and play for a bit. I'm leaning towards the regular indoor suite as he's a small'sh dog. I know he won't love it, but I don't feel like the indoor/outdoor is really worth the price increase (plus less human time), and we can't afford the fancier areas.

Yes, you can visit your dog and walk him! I never ended up doing it, but when I checked my dog is I was told that I could visit him during normal business hours and I think you have to walk them in the designated area (as opposed to leaving the facility). I suggest contacting them on their Facebook page. I've had the most luck getting my questions answered there!

We visited our dog about 3x during our stay. They ask that you don't come after 9p since it can create a ruckus for the dogs when they're supposed to be settling down. We just took her into the outdoor play area and played fetch and hung out for about 30 min each time. It was very easy and very accommodating!

Thanks for the fast replies! Trying to decide between here for the convenience of being right next to our hotel and a place in Orlando that includes play time with the same cost.

Well, if they had play time, it would only be like 2 play dates, so for the convenience of it, they would get more out of you coming to visit and walk them. :)

We did the middle level kennel (indoor/outdoor). I know you had said expense wise it didn't seem worth it, but it did include a 30 minute play date or something like that.

That have some a la carte options as well. We really enjoyed seeing our dog every few days and since it was her first time being away from us I think it helped her. The hardest part was finding the time to get there since we are in the parks all day!

Hi! Well I recently just got a puppy. A Maltese named Minnie (hehe. I had to.) I've had her since Oct. and she is my baby. She just turned a year June 25th. I have been away from her before, but only for a week, and she was in my parents care. What freaks me out is leaving her with strangers but this thread REALLY helped my fear! Thank you so much! My Minnie will be staying there over night from July 26th - August 9th. The PLAN is to visit her everyday. I am glad I will be able to walk with her and stuff.
The only thing is, is that Minnie is very shy when it comes to other animals. She is not vicious or anything but she is just very shy... She usually sits in the corner. So instead of playtime can she get that cuddle time thing?. She is very good with humans and loves affection and to be cuddled. I am thinking maybe I shouldn't because this would be a good experience for her... Also What of my own can I bring? (Food? Snacks? Toys? Blankets/Pillows? This is my first pet so I am LOST!!!

You can bring your own food and toys. They don't allow outside bedding to maintain a flea free guarantee.

They would allow me to change the playtime with something else if I wanted. My dog is a bit shy ad well, but she ended up really enjoying it. I think our dogs act a bit different when we aren't in the mix. I'd try the playtime and if they don't think she's enjoying it swap it out. They're really great about watching the dogs and keeping it safe and fun at playtime.

If you like them on Facebook you can see a bunch of playtime pictures.

Thanks for your help. I'll have to call as I don't see it on their website. I originally thought the indoor/outdoor actually meant they had access to a grassy area outside but it doesn't seem that way from the description. Anyway I think our trip has changed such that we'll have two possibly three late mornings which would be ideal for D going over to play with the dog.

The kennel is near the Port Orleans resorts, right? We are considering booking our dogs here (together) next summer, but they're both a little sketchy about fireworks. Well, one is a little scared and one is TERRIFIED! We're a little worried about them hearing them EVERY night from Epcot and DHS since they're fairly close by that area. Does anyone have dogs with similar fears who've stayed here before?

Ummm...lots of dogs are scared of fireworks, I wonder if they can't be heard much at Best Friends. Good question.

This question came up a couple years ago and if I remember correctly, the animals can't really hear the fireworks at the kennel. I think I asked on the kennel's facebook page. I'll see if I can find it...

So I was looking at the original pictures at the front of the thread.

First I saw the doggy suites, and thought to myself, "Wow, those are awesome. I don't have a dog but I suppose if I was travelling with my kitties they could stay here. I can't wait to see what they have for the cats!"

Then I saw pics of the cat condo area.

What the hell?! So I can book a luxurious room for my dog, but can only stick my cat in a kitty jail cell? Are there any you know...real rooms for me to book for a cat? How the heck is my cat supposed to play and exercise in one of those cat condo bookshelves? My cat doesn't warrant a flat screen TV with movies? My cats don't get an option playtime or bedtime stories? NO KITTY PLAYGROUND?! :sad2:

I haven't gone very deep in the thread but does anyone who has boarded a cat there have any input on this?

Wow! I haven't had a cat for several years now so I never even thought about what options the cats have! You're right, I didn't see anywhere that cats have options for TV/movies but the pictures on their Facebook page show the cats getting to walk about and playing. The description of Kitty City on their web site says this:

Kitty City is designed to be a sanctuary for our feline friends. Housed in a separate wing of the building, it is protected from the sights, sounds and smells of dogs.

We have accommodations for up to 24 kitty guests, who can relax in your choice of a two-room or four-room condos, and watch the world through their windows. Each condo has a separate, private relief area; and all condos are individually vented to outdoors for the health of our guests.

And here's what it has as far as rates/options for cats:

Two Level Kitty Condo - $25 Standard/ $23 Resort Guest/ $22 Daycare*

Four Level Kitty Condo - $34 Standard/ $32 Resort Guest/ $31 Daycare*

a la carte Kitties:

Playtime- $8

Cookies & Milk- $3

Tuna on a Ritz- $3

Activity Toy- $3

Deluxe Kitty Bed- $5

Still no kitty reviews? :confused3

This may have been asked, but is tipping appropriate at the Kennel at the end of your stay? I happily tip my Mousekeepers for cleaning up after my family, and I will happily tip my Precious' Mousekeepers as well.
TIA

This can't be true. The kennel is very close to Epcot. We often stay at Old Key West which is about the same distance from Epcot and we can hear the fireworks quite well.

Some of the dog kennels are inside-only and they may have extra sound-proofing. There are many, however, with indoor/outdoor access and I am sure the dogs could hear the fireworks, even inside.

I don't know. I didn't hear them at POR which is right across the street. The dogs don't have access to the outdoors 24/7 so I imagine indoors it's pretty quiet as far as fireworks go.
