Avatarland!!!!

I don't doubt Disney Imagineers could make Avatarland something really special, Pandora itself has a lot that could translate well to AK. I guess I have to add myself to the people that wonder if the franchise is strong enough to capture the public imagination in the same way that something like Harry Potter or Star Wars has.

Regardless of the fact that its the biggest Box office film of recent years, since its release it seems to have earned a reputation of being hugely overated and with a six year gap between the first movie and the 3 planned followup movies it does seem a big gamble that the planned movies will be as successful as the originalfilm, let alone that the general public will be interested enough to flock to the animal kingdom's version of Pandora.
I'm sure it'll be amazing and popular, but I doubt many people will be planning their vacation around it.

As much as Animal Kingdom needs the attractions to make it a full day park.
i think Disney would get better bang for their buck with Star Wars land at HS and improvements at Epcot.

good news for you then because star wars is coming to DHS

Seems like I may be one of the only ones excited about Avatarland. I really enjoyed the movie and cant wait to see what Disney does. AK in my opinion needs more attractions so I am excited to see what will be added with Avatarland.

nah
theres a lot of people excited about it... people will flock to it when they see the floating mountains and bioluminescent flora and fauna

just my opinion

my hope is people give it a chance and not prejudge it

My opinion.

Katie

Just shows how much you should judge the people on this board's opinion of Avatarland. Quite a dumb statement to say you would rather die than go to Avatarland - how old are you?

In the end I think there is a small group that hates the idea - but like all other negative people - they are the loudest.

Folks that are more reasonable understand that you have to see what will be there before you can say Yay/Nay....right now everyone is basing it on the movie - which I agree - whose story was really not that intersting...fun for once but not a movie you see over and over again - but visually the movie was ground breaking!

Translating those visuals and concepts into theme park rides I think will in the end be a very enjoyable experience.

I thought I would add a positive note to all the loud negative news. Not that it will convince too many of the naysayers because as you can see from "this" post - not a lot going on upstairs....

I am actually looking forward to seeing Avatarland, Carsland and Starwarsland. They all have great potential for creative "theme-ing" and exciting rides!

Yeah,
I'm not a fan of the movie either but the night bioluminescence fauna has really peaked my curiosity. I doubt they can pull off the floating mountains except as a scene on a ride, but if the entire park lights up at night, similar to the movies, that would be amazing.
I not sure if I believe that will happen but I think we'll see it at least on the boat ride they are planning. That would be OK as I love dark rides and I love the dark boat rides even more.
I'm not a huge fan of Soarin but the new Avatar theater they had leaked plans for would put Soarin to shame.

great way of looking at it ego
all of these lands have great potential and that we dont know how they will turn out
being openminded here is a good thing

When people start saying that “Avatarland is going to be stupid because the movie was stupid” and similar such statements, I like to reference Waterworld. It was one of the biggest box office bombs of all time and panned by critics and movie goers.

However, Universal was able to use this movie to make what is considered to be one of the best theme park shows in existence.

The moral is:

Good source material CAN make it a success, but bad source material doesn’t necessarily make it a failure.

So, you'll skip it even though you have no idea right now what the final attractions will be like? You can honestly say that just because you didn't like the movie?

Did you like the Space Mountain Movie? How about the flick that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was based on? And, I'm sure evryone that rides Rock N Rollercoaster is an Aerosmith fan. Let's not forget how much money Test Track made in the theaters.

I hope the Avatar attractions turn out to be the best attractions in all of WDW. Based on what I'm seeing here, crowds should be low, because everybody here already knows they are going to hate it.

Points I agree with.

Here are two things I know about this regardless of what people are saying:

1) This ride(s) will be immensely popular when it opens. Because ALL rides are.
2) Disney has a pretty good track record for the last 10 years of getting rides right. (Yeti not withstanding.) They just haven't built enough of them.

If Disney allows Imagineering to do it right, I don't care if they based it on Avatar, Twilight, or John Carter. It will entertain us well.

Sometimes i feel like the only person in the world who actually enjoyed Avatar as a movie. It amazes me how much flak it gets. I think the Avatarland will be cool and fit right in with AK's message.

Count me in! I just get tired of the negative arguments with no points other than to say "I don't like it" .

Hey-- I dare you to go on a star wars thread and say you hated star wars....I double dare you!

Best news EVER!!!!

TWILIGHT LAND? don't even joke about that! yeeesh!

NEVER!

OK I'm not super plussed about the idea of Avatarland... i only saw part of the movie but in my humble opinion Ferngully was a better movie with the same story1 but that said of course i trust the lovely imaginears to do what they do best.

i once heard a rumour that they were going to do a park just like MK but where the villains had taken over!!! now that was an idea i would have loved to see.... oh well :(

Oh? So you've seen the plans for the attractions and offerings of Avatarland then? I was under the impression that nothing had been released.

Lololol seriously. And if it is based on the land, then boo Disney because I don't need to see a beautiful artificial land. Animal Kingdom is boring enough. My question is, and I'm being serious, what could they possibly do to make this not just a nature hike? Unless of course that is the goal. I don't mind learning about saving nature and such, but I'm pretty sure that there is enough of that in the parks.

Military Wife & Disney Lover. be there December 15-18.

I'll say it. Avatar is still the highest grossing movie. It was nominated for best picture. A lot of people liked the movie. Based on the posters on DIS you'd think the movie was as good (bad) as the Lone Ranger.

The movie is irrelevant. You can think the movie was bad but love whatever the Imagineers come up with. You might love the movie but hate the job Disney does with it.

Not sure why so many people are convinced it will be terrible before we've even seen any plans.

I'll say it....

Say it again, and again....

How can anyone dislike a plan, that they haven't even seen one concrete detail about?!?

A tad off topic I know... But everyone said Fisney needs to do something with downtown, they finally have a plan (that they are actually working on this time) and people are like "no, not that" people get one idea stuck in their head and then get angry when it's by exactly what they thought...

The imagineers are who they are for a reason, and reading Marty Skylar's book is giving me a whole new respect for them, let them work their magic, and then decide...

I remember threads about what a waste cars land would be at DCA, and look at what's its fine for the park not even one of Pixars most beloved franchises....

(

I just picked that one because while there would be tons of hate on the idea, there would also be a lot of people (OK - women) excited by the idea.

Regardless of what you thought of Avatar, I am not sure how you can't conceive of the possibility of a good ride out of it.

There is a difference. The DTD construction confirms the fact that PI isn't coming back. Some people miss having an adult section of Disney. Clubs.

Avatar isn't really taking away any existing attractions.

good point Lewis
even if you hated the movie avatar land/pandora isnt taking away anything

i just kind of laugh off people who say they will never step into DAK again...i just want to say stop being dramatic its just a theme park

AH...but there are people (not me) that will say "building Avatar takes land and resources/money away from (insert project name here)".
