I got my room at the military discount for December 17th club level at the WL
Not sure about closer to Christmas. She did say they were going fast
I don't think the CMs can "see" how many miltary rooms are left in a given category, but they can instill a sense of urgency
. I'm so glad you were able to book with your 40% off
Thank you Kook
You're welcome.
Does anyone have pictures of the WL during the holiday season?
There are a few more
HERE in the CL section of the first page.

A great thread to look thru. Holiday photos are in there... Just have to look for them.
Have fun thumbing thru!!!
Great suggestion.
MY Main question here is what is the reasonable tip to leave for 2 adults and and a 4 yr old.
I plan to do turndown service as well - because I think it will be fabulous coming back to the room w/our beds waiting for us.....so this will be a double envelope trip - I don't want to be cheap - I know the lodgekeepers work hard, but I don't want to go overboard - I have already gone over budget
. Can anyone please tell me what the going rate for lodgekeeping is?? I thought I read somewhere it was $1/person?? (I have read so much stuff I'm thoroughly
confused)
Please help me sort this tipping out,as I take tipping very seriously and would just be incredibly mortified if I messed up somehow.
1) Does turndown have to be ordered daily,or can it be requested for whatever days we want upon check in?
2) Are tips for general care of the room left daily or at the end of our stay?
3) Are envelopes provided or should I bring my own?
4) Are there any other people at WL that can accept tips?
Thank-you so much for your patience with all my questions!!!
Welcome!
Disclaimer: Tipping questions on the DIS are known to be controversial, so YMMV with my answers.
The most frequently suggested housekeeping rate is usually $1 per person, per day. You can't "mess up" tipping since it is optional for housekeeping. With turn-down when not staying CL, it is best to request it at check-in and they will note it in your reservation. I posted yesterday here that we frequently "turn-down" turn-down since we're in the room, but I have tipped $1 per bed ($2), but the tip has been left each time so I stopped tipping additionally for turn-down and only tip in the morning.
Lodgekeepers can change daily, so if you do choose to tip, you would do so daily. I leave the tip on top of the end of one bed and it is taken by whomever cleans my room. Envelopes are not provided nor are they necessary. Some enjoy making them and templates can be found online.
WDW resort positions that are considered "tippable" are: bellman, valets, and restaurant servers... Tipping is at your discretion for others such as a concierge or manager, a housekeeper who delivers items to your room after hours, in-room dining... I'm sure I'm missing someone, but you get the gist.
In the case of concierges, they are suppose to refuse cash tips, but may accept them if offered three times. I also believe they can't accept cash over or gifts valued over $75.
I may be wrong about this or the rules may have changed, so hopefully someone will correct me and I do apologize if I'm wrong.
Here are just a few from our December 2010 trip. We didn't stay at the WL, but did visit to eat at Artist Point
.
Terrific! Thank you so much for getting all of us in the WL holiday spirit!
is the pool zero entry? I have stayed there 2 times but I just can't recall. this was pre children so I would not have even taken notice lol.
There is a children's pool right next to the main pool that is very shallow.
Forgive me if this question has already been asked, but I used the search area & came up with nothing specific.....
Has the coffee been changed from nescafe to the joffreys yet at roaring fork? What about the in room coffee?
Also, if it HAS been changed, how did you like it? Is it standard drip brew coffee in roaring fork, or is it some kind of joffre powder mix....
Thank you!
I think it has changed in the room, but I can't recall at RF since I didn't use it in either location. Maybe someone else will know about RF and can post what they thought of the Joffrey's.
I believe the black out dates for the military discont runs from Dec 23 thru Jan2, if I remember correctly, that's another reason we haven't been back for Christmas, that and DH's job situation. I'm hoping to go back for Christmas Dec 2014 even without a discount.
The blackout dates are 12/23 - 12/31, (our exact dates
). If you need more info. on the SOG overflow rate, PM me. it is available during blacked-out periods.
Ok, so I understand we get evening turndown service since we are staying CL, do we tip? and how much? and when?
The only time we have ever experienced turndown service was when we were chosen as the Family of the Day at Pop, I think it was in 2008 and it was a total surprise, so we obviously didn't tip, since we ddin't know it was going to happen.
Please see my post above about tipping.
Just upgraded to Wilderness Lodge for our 9/29 to 10/5 trip. We have visited the resort before, but have never stayed and we can't wait. My DD9 and DS5 have no idea we switched to the WL from POR and will be so excited since they have been talking about wanting to stay there since we took the boat over from the MK to eat at Whispering Canyon a couple years ago.
You're going to love the Lodge and welcome to the thread! I'll add you to the Lodgers' Log.
Our experience has been if we leave a tip for turndown service they typically don't accept it.
That was our experience, too at WL, YC and CR.
I need advice. Currently we are booked WL CL for 5 nights but I keep thinking about changing it to 6 nights but if I do I have to downgrade and won't stay CL. This is a hard decision. We have never stayed CL but another night would be nice.
I'm going to stir the pot and suggest keeping CL. This way, you'd be able to experience and enjoy all the CL benefits before your trip and for 5 days! But, an extra night is only 24 hours long. I would value all the features and amenities associated with CL (and the wonderful OFC staff), for 5 days more than not having CL, but staying an extra 24 hours, but both would be perfect!
We tip $1 per bed daily. DD and I decorate envelopes stating that it is for turndown service with a big thank you. They almost always take it, I have noticed when they don't it's because Lodgekeeping was running behind & did the turndown. Then only the Lodgekeeping envelope is taken.
How sweet!
Hi everyone so excited to be staying at the WL for our November trip.
We have a Woods View with FD booked for 11/17 - 11/25. We're staying at Pop from 11/13 - 11/17 prior to our WL stay. Can't wait to see all the beautiful Xmas decorations.
This thread is amazing looking forward to seeing the updated rooms. Can you please add us to the first page
Thank you! I'll add you to the LL and welcome! You're going to love the new look and comfort of the rooms and all the wonderful decorations.
Regular club level rooms have a closed balcony, if that helps make the decision easier. We had a closed balcony last time in our non-club level 6th floor room and I really didn't like it. We were trying to watch the Wishes fireworks and had to stand to see out. It would have been a lot nicer to just sit down when we wanted to look outside of our room. The view outside was really nice, but we couldn't appreciate it.
One night our granddaughter kept running around the room, climbing on the chairs to look out at the fireworks, then running around the room again. It was not good at all.
These are good points to consider.
