Help! Feeling frustrated!!

I am currently a Feb use year DVC owner at BLT. I just purchased 100 points at VGF also w a Feb use year. I was told by my guide that NO ONE was getting 2013 points avail for use as the resort doesn't open til November. My friend also owns at BLT, purchased at VGF as well and has an April use year. She got 2013 points!!! And will be getting 2014 points as well when it's time obviously. I called and questioned my guide as to why she got points and we didn't when he told me "NO ONE" was. He says he told me FEB use year wasn't, April was. Totally not true! Feeling hosed because I put a 20% down payment and am making 7 months worth of payments before I get any points, but meanwhile because her use year is different she has points now, can bank them and gets them again in April. Why am I paying for something for more that half a year that I can't utilize unless I borrow from next year! Seems unfair. My guide old me that they can't give them to everyone bc then "too many points will be floating around for people to use". Feeling frustrated bc it's not what he told me originally... I was almost afraid to post this bc I've seen how some folks get blasted on here, but I'm putting it out there bc I'm wondering if anyone else on here feels the same way.

I am sorry your guide did not give you all the details upfront.
He/she is right that April UY is the first month that will receive points as the resort was officially declared April 1st, 2013. What they did not say was that you could have requested a different UY and received 2013 points if the UY was April or later.
We have a Dec UY and requested an April UY for our VGF contracts.

Too bad. No doubt the guide decided not to tell you you could select a different use year and get 2013 points. A poor play on his part...

I'm so upset! I have someone from sales management contacting me in the morning, cannot be changed???

Considering those VGF points can be easily sold / rented for $15 per point, it's like you are missing a rebate of $15... full $150 / pt vs. $135 / pt... frustrating isn't it?

When did you purchase? There is a time frame when you can back out (10 - 14 days I believe) if you are within that time frame cancel the contract immediately and purchase a later UY if 2013 points are really important to you. I just sold a 130 point contract with a different UY (smaller contract) because it was kind of a hassle (do able but just a pain in rear). I came to the conclusion I prefer sticking with the same UY for all my contracts. Thats just me. Good luck

Although, they let me split the down payment 10% up front and the second half later. I just gave that second half about 10 days ago....

I think it is terrible your guide did not explain this to you. Very poor on their part.

For what it is worth:

- you will not pay MF until you get points (they will be prorated). So you will not being paying MF for Feb points until Feb 2014. Others will be paying MF earlier prorated from when the resort opened. That is where people with April UY get the biggest benefit. They get two allotments of their points fairly quickly while only paying MF from October for the first year.

- you will get the same amount of points, unfortunately, yours will come at the end of the contact for the last installment.

In the end, it does balance out. However, most will not have the contract in 50+ years to see that balance.

I also have a Feb UY and won't even consider buying VGF for this reason.

There is no March UY and the resort won't even be open for occupancy until late Oct/early Nov but April UYs and forward get 2013 points? I just think it's unfair and I cry foul too. Shutting out 1 UY exclusively is not right.

People say that over the course of ownership it will even out.......I don't plan to outlive my contract, I'll be 62 next month.

I say rescind that contract and buy resale. ;)

I'm sorry you're going through this frustration. But the bottom line is there are no such thing as February 2013 points. The resort was declared in April 2013. So when the quality assurance manager calls there are two options: You either accept their apology that your guide wasn't as forthcoming with the details (or mistook whether you were willing to add a different UY from your original) or you demand a new UY (and get the new membership number that comes along with it). There's every chance in the world they won't give you the latter option because you're well outside the recision window. But you should really debate if you want a different UY and all that comes with that.

Ugh I wish I would have reached out to you all before I did this! I'm so mad that I didn't get a full explanation. Foolish that I didn't ask more questions but I'm fairly new to this. I always trust Disney, and that I'm getting the full story. My guide had the audacity to tell me that's garment will call me tomorrow and maybe they can send my family and I for "a real nice dinner" next time we are at WDW!!!!!! Mad!!!!!!!

Enjoy the dinner they will offer you and plan all the lovely things you will do with your new points.

We just referred a family and they got all of their 2013 points and will only pay one month's MF's..... and they get ALL of their 2013 points.

To the OP... I can definitely understand why you are mad - but you aren't losing a single point. You will get every single point that you purchased, just not right now.

An option that you could possibly ask for would be developer points - they would be for Aulani or Animal Kingdom Villas (or possibly VGF... but I doubt they would do that...)

When we bought at AKV the resort wasn't open when we bought, so we received a matching set of points that could only be used at Saratoga Springs. It was a great deal for us, no MF's up front, full points our first year, and we were able to make a reservation immediately.

I personally think that everyone buying at VGF is getting the short end of the stick. It is the highest price per point ever sold by Disney, no promotions, no incentives, no founders wall/fountain/art... whatever... none of that!

When we bought at BLT we received out first year's points with no MF's, we received a free 7 night Disney Cruise, and our points were under $100 pp.

I understand that the economy is a LOT different right now than what it was when BLT first opened - but really, we people buying at the VGF are not getting a 'good' deal, let alone a 'great' deal.

That being said... I would love to own at the Grand Floridian, but we won't be buying direct.... and I seriously doubt we will ever add more points, it has just gotten far too expensive.

We are at the point now that I wish we owned Bay Lake Tower and HHI - we aren't fans of Kidani. We've only stayed at AKV once, and that was at Jambo House - and our room was so far away that we felt like we were walking to Africa every night, and walking from Africa every morning... it was a journey!

This..I feel would be an acceptable compromise and make Feb UY members feel like they aren't getting completely hosed. But then that would contradict their position on incentives of any kind for VGF.

OP I hope things work out for you and you can enjoy your VGF purchase without having bad feelings about it.

Thank you so much. I do feel a bit better about it. Forgive me for asking but what are developers points?

Disney has a, "If they don't ask, don't volunteer information " policy.

They can't give you something that doesn't exist.

Other things to get upset about, you buy the day after a price increase or just after you buy, Disney offers a better incentive.

My favorite was the different deal depending on where you bought. DCL buyers got a better deal than WDW buyers and both got a better deal than people who bought over the phone.

Stuff happens. :sad2:

:earsboy: Bill

That's very true. I just came home from DCL on Saturday and there was many extra incentives for AK and Aulani onboard that aren't available on land they said. :-/

I know its frustrating and I do think that you need to share with them that the way it was explained to you was not accurate. However, would you have not bought if you had known that 2013 UY points were for those with a April UY and later due to when it was declared? Or, would you have insisted on a different UY--in other words, a new membership--- to get the points?

If either one of those would have happened, then I definitely think you need to share that as well and see if they would consider changing the contract now for you. Obviously, getting any additional points is unlikely as it happened the same way when VGC opened-- started with June UY points IRRC-- but not being able to explain to you why your UY was not eligible so you could make an informed decision should not have happened.

Good luck...
