We debarked the Wonder yesterday morning in Vancouver. The Alaskan cruise was our first cruise and seemed very smooth to us. We had felt the movement of the ship but felt no need for Dramamine or any other type of seasick remedy. However, as the day has progressed today all 3 of us have felt VERY tired and felt like the room is moving!

What could be going on? Has anyone else ever experienced this? How long could it last?

I felt that way about 2 days. My daughter threw up the night we disembarked. No issues on the cruise at all. Weird! We took bonine the night before the cruise, but none of us liked the way it made us feel, so no more.

There was a recent thread about the same thing. Many people experience feelings of movement or seasickness after the cruise. I have the same problem. Mine lasts several days.

Welcome to the world of "mal de debarquement". It's basically motion sickness in reverse. Your inner ear has to relearn that the land doesn't pitch and roll.

Most people have some minor swaying after cruises. Some people feel no different. Some people will swear they are still on the ship. It's most often evident in small spaces (like the shower). Most people "get over it" relatively quickly (a day or two). Others suffer for weeks.

If it's really bad, you can take Bonine or Dramamine for it.

I get it after most cruises (not badly). Although after my first Alaska cruise, I did suffer with it for almost a month. I like to think I'm still on the cruise ;).

This happened to me too! I thought I was going crazy. It took a few days to finally feel like the room wasn't moving. It was such a horrible feeling. But I didn't get sick on the ship.

Yep, happens to me. Especially in the shower. It only lasts a day or two for me. I have only been sick once (7 cruises) onboard. Bonine helped in that situation. Actually it happened after I spent a day out in a small boat. I was fine on the boat and then that night at a restaurant I could see fish swimming around in a huge fish tank in my peripheral vision and it made me so sick. That was the worst:(

I kind of like that feeling, too, especially when I'm back in my own (normally stationary) bed and it rocks me to sleep. :goodvibes
Oops, just re-read the PP. I would not like it at all if I felt nauseated. I just feel like I'm still on the ship and it is gently swaying. No nausea.

And as for walking, I just consider it getting my land legs back.

After our first cruise on the carnival I felt dizzy on the last day and when I got home I felt like the room was moving. It lasts for only a few days. Just relax and don't move a lot and you will feel better. In other words be lazy! Lol

Happened to my husband and me as well! Lasted maybe a week? We spent a couple days post cruise with my family back at the parks, then flew back home to Vegas... We wondered if it lasted so long for us because it took us so long to get back home? (Plus the long flight/time zone change).

I get it every time I go sailing, even if we're only out for a few hours. We went out yesterday morning and this evening my computer chair and desk still feel like they're bobbing up and down. Totally worth it though. ;)

If you get it when you're in bed trying to sleep, try lying on your back near the edge of the bed and put one foot flat on the floor. For some reason that works to stop the world from moving about too much.

I felt the motion of the ocean one day in port during our first cruise, and for a day or two after we got home. Hasn't bothered me during or after any other cruises.

Called Dock Rock and will come to an end soon you can take Dramamine to help with the symptoms it was go away in time but itself.

Thank you all for your replies. I thought it was just us...now I know its normal. And, yes, MUCH worse in small spaces. The bathroom floor felt/looked like it was rolling:crazy2:

Happens to me each cruise. :-)

I just pretend that I'm still on the cruise, makes me smile :goodvibes

Fairly normal. When I was in the navy it would sometimes take 3-4 days before I felt like the land wasn't moving. Never got sick though.

The first time I got it, I thought I was crazy. I now expect it and it does make me feel like I'm still on the boat.

I have gotten it after both of my cruises. After a week of waiting for the dizziness to go away, I went to the doctor. I was given meclazine, which made it stop after about another week.

Yikes, I don't like this. Does the length of cruise affect this at all? We are going on a three night and then doing WDW. That would sort of put a damper on the WDW part!!:headache:

Not everyone gets this so don't worry. We didn't have any problems after our first cruise. Best thing to do with seasickness during or after the cruise is get outside and look at the horizon. This allows the brain to reset to the rocking or solid ground and the body adjusts easier.

If you're like most people, you won't feel it at all for the majority of the day... mostly you'll notice it when you sit down in a restaurant or when you take a shower. It really isn't all that unpleasant, just a weird feeling. ;)
