Resale confusion

We are considering resale. I have read a lot about March 2011 restriction and I am confused.

I know the following:
1. You can not use resale points for DCL/ Adventure / Con.

I don't understand a few of the other points:

1. My husband and I are going to be on the deed together. When something happens to one of us is there any issues?
2. Can our children inherit our deed?
3. Can we book a trip for someone else - say one of our adult children (we would not be on the trip).

#1. No issues that I know of. If you are on the deed, you are an owner.
#2. Yes, your children can inherit your deed. There may be some paperwork .
#3. Yes, you can book a trip for anyone else and you need not be on the trip. You as the member would have to make all the arrangements like the reservation and Dining Plan.

On #3, if they add the adult child as an Associate Member, the child could make his own reservations, right? I don't know about add ons like the Dining Plan, though.

I think Associate Members can make reservations. Most likely they can arrange for the Dining Plan and Magical Express too.

You can also gift your DVC membership to someone (like your kids someday). Disney will walk you through that process when the time comes.

And basically, you can use a resale DVC contract for DVC resorts and trade into RCI. You can't use resale contracts for Disney cruises, regular Disney resorts and the concierge collection (but most of us feel that's not the best use of points anyway as they take a ton of points to do...you are better off using your points to rent a DVC stay to someone and using that cash to pay for such things).

Other than #1, there really is no other issues with resale vs. direct, other than the time frame.

When buying direct with Disney, at a resort in active sales, you will have your points available immediately and can probably make reservations within a day.

With resale, from offer to having points you can use, can be an 8 - 12 week process. Going in, plan for that timeframe. It sometimes happens quicker--but for the most part, that is a good timeline.

But, the money you save is worth it. Although, Disney currently has waitlists for some of the older resorts, so for those, even direct isn't turning out to be much faster than resale.

Good luck!

I would add to this the fact that at least with resale you have defined parameters for the wait. With direct wait lists, the timeframes are undefined. I would prefer a defined 12 week wait over an undefined wait that could be six days or six months.
