I was surprised that there was not a thread about either of these. They are so big.

Anyone practice either? What type of yoga do you love?

Well, my husband has found a new passion in hot yoga. He absolutely LOVES it. I like yoga, but had a very hard time with the heat, and the studio's normal temperature classes are different.

I enjoy my Windsor Pilates DVDs from years ago, but rarely do them now. I should, though. I love what it does for me. Hmm, definitely something I should work on doing at this point.

I do power yoga once a week and gentle yoga once a week at the Y for an hour each. Honestly, I do not love yoga. I watch the clock the entire time. But it is good for me.:goodvibes I am more flexible at almost 46 than I was at 16. I have piriformis syndrome and in order to keep running, I have to keep stretching and working on strength and yoga does the trick. What I do like about yoga is that the instructors always stress that this is your practice and to do what YOU can do. So I can challenge myself in some areas and back off in others when I need to. That really helps when you have a back that doesn't always cooperate.:)

I started out really liking bikram then went into more Power Yoga heated, but now I found I like more of a slow flow practice, some deep stretching and gentle classes. I really love Yin Yoga right now too.

Ashtanga, 6 days a week (well, not today, full moon!), and it is now the only exercise I do. I am completely devoted to the practice. I had to quit running because of repetitive stress injuries and was looking for way to stay fit without the pounding. To be honest all those years of running made me incredibly inflexible, so it has been challenging working out all of the kinks, but it is coming :goodvibes

I do yoga videos at home on my "rest" day, the day after my long run, and sometimes before I run.

I have done those Windsor Pilates videos! They are very effective. I need to pull mine out again too.

My gym offers the following and I try to go as time allows:

Monday - Yin yoga
Tues - Mat pilates
Wed - power yoga
Thurs - Mat Pilates
Fri - Asana yoga with meditation
Sat - Power yoga
Sun - Power yoga and Hot Power yoga

I love Hot power yoga so I try to practice that atleast once a week.

I find yoga & pilates are good compliment to my running.

What gym in Boston, and what teachers do you like?

I used to do Pilates mat twice a week, but dropped out of it a few years ago when I got into running (the classes were at 6am and I just couldn't get up that early and get to the gym before the sun came up anymore.) Oddly enough though, this thread comes at an awesome time. I just signed up for a reformer class. My first session is tomorrow evening. I am kinda terrified! It looks hard!

Oh have fun!

I teach Mat Pilates but hoping to get the full immersion certification in Jan, so I can teach on the apparatus. I need to set up some reformer apts too. Let me know how it went.

Im actually putting together a fall workshop on Pilates for Athletes (cyclists, runners, etc) its amazing how it can help your performance. More and more professional athletes are finding this out. Lots of tennis players, golfers and even some NFL players are taking it up now.

I do yoga once a week on Thursday night. I tell my students that it is the only way I can make it through Friday.

Mine is a flow yoga with a mix of yoga, tai chi and some pilates with a meditation period at the end.

I was just thinking about getting out my pilates dvds just the other day.

That's cool! Sounds a little like Yin Yang Yoga.

I teach both Yoga and Pilates (and well spin/indoor cycle too) and my Yoga classes start and end nice and slow - more gentle/restorative, but we do some flow (mostly slow flow) through the middle part of class. Gives everyone a little of everything I think.

Well I survived reformer! :goodvibes
And I was very wrong calling it a reformer class. Yes, we used the reformer, but we also used the chair, the cadillac and the tower. It was madness! The pilates studio looks like a medieval torture chamber and there were even more machines and things that we didnt use!

The last thing we did had me suspended upside down by my ankles on the cadillac. I was supposed to put my hands on the floor and push up and arch my back. I tried three times, I could not push up. It didn't hurt, my arms just wouldn't do it. It was like I was trying to move the entire floor not my body. It wasn't gonna happen. I couldnt help but start to laugh. Normally what she was asking would have been a piece of cake. I can do a handstand without even thinking about it! I was just whooped without realizing it. I suspect I will be in a lot of pain tomorrow, but in a good way.

Oh that's awesome. Cool that you got to use all of the apparatus.

I took up yoga last week and I LOVE how much it stretches me out, especially after a jog/walk. I'll do 35 minutes of jogging/walking and then when I get home, I'll stretch out with some yoga. On my days of no jogging, I'll do about 10-20 minutes of yoga just to stretch and clear my mind. I've noticed a difference in how well I feel for my jog the next day. :goodvibes
