Official Castaway Cay 5K Thread

How much does it cost

Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards

The 5k trainer is $1.99 and the full version is $3.99. In app purchases are available in the full version. There are three seasons worth of missions with season 1 included in the full version.

I only have experience with the 5K trainer currently.

I love my C25K program on my android phone! So much so, that I've repeated Week 1 for the past month!!!:rotfl2:

:) And I bet you seriously rock that Week 1!

I just switched from C25K, which I used a few times in the past, to the Zombies, Run! 5K trainer. It's awesome! It's nice having a story unfolding as you're running. Try it out, the program is similar to C25K, but adds some leg exercises as well.

I've just had this app explained, and it sounds hilarious. I'm going to have to try it.

Thanks for that info!

Do you think if I asked nicely a CM would be willing to give me 2 medals?? The reason I ask
Is because I am part of a group that runs for people that cant run/walk. I am running this race for a young girl that has many disabilities including cerebral palsey. This is my first ever 5k so I'm excited to get my first medal however since this run is dedicated to her I would love for her to have a medal too! I will give her mine if I can't get more then one medal but I'm really hoping they might give me an extra! I'd even pay for it!

I'd imagine they would give you a second one, but if not let me know and I'll send you one of mine. I'll have 3 of them at that point and quite honestly don't need them.

Officially 12. There have been several people who have stated their children younger than 12 have participated, but officially it's 12.

Excellent! DS will be 12 before the cruise.

How do I sign up? I'm so excited. I've just started *running* and this will be my first official race. And Disney no less. pixiedust:

We didn't sign up on the cruise I was on. We were just told when and where to show up (in our case Evolution at 8:15). The CMs in charge came in, gave out bibs, told us what to expect, then we walked off as a group first to the map for them to show us the route, then we started.

Others have reported signing up in advance and I believe signing (I assume) a waiver, but we did not (the lack of a waiver in particular surprised me as literally EVERY race I've participated in includes that - so I HOPE that was just an oversight with our CMs).

There's one "official" water station - at the entrance to/exit from the bike loop - so you've got at least 4 shots at it if necessary. I carry a bottle with me and was fine - but they also offered to refill it when I re-entered the bike loop.

My one caution - and it's one that I think every runner has to remember all the time - is to try and not start out too fast. On our run, I encountered a girl who had taken off top-speed (and apparently had a pretty sizeable breakfast)...and there was shall we say carbo-unloading along the course.

Dang, dang, Age limit?? My DH and I did a 5K in April and he had DD (5) on his shoulders the whole race. We didnt register her, so I can only assume that we MAY be able to do that again come Nov 2014... ??

Thank you. :goodvibes I need all the words of caution I can get. :thumbsup2 Thats great if we can just show up. I'll see if I can find more info or call.

This is our first cruise and I ordered Disney cruise water bottles so we'll have those. Perfect. Now how to talk DS into it.

I have always wanted to run a 5K but never really could get into running. I walk a lot. I have been inspired by this thread and started a couch to 5K program. Thanks for everyone who posted to get me revved up.

Basically any age can run, but if they're under 12 they won't get a medal or bib.
Thanks! I'm sure if DH doesnt carry DD on his shoulders, she will want to show how "tough" she is by running with us.

The info will be in the Navigator on your cruise. On mine (you can see a scan of it on the Navigators page by hovering over the Staterooms page on the upper navigation bar on the cruise forum!) the Navigator in our room the evening before Castaway day told us exactly where to go and when. So just look for that. I really doubt that anyone you can call will have accurate-enough info, so just know it will almost certainly happen, weather/docking-permitting, and just keep a lookout for the info in the Navigator.

I just wanted to say I love your countdown tickers. :thumbsup2 I countdown that far out too.

Thanks! Someone from my WDW October 2012 board said, "So long as you have a date, make a countdown" :) So it's far, but at least I got DH nailed down with dates. lol

Thank you! That's so nice of you to offer!! :)

Thank you everyone who has posted. I have learned so much. I have motivated my hubby to run with me and was thinking about my son, but now I am not sure what I am going to do. He can keep up with me while I am walking but I dont think he will keep up with me if I run at all.
