The Remy dress code is simple: "Men should wear a suit or dress pants with jacket (sports or suit)." It doesn't talk about how expensive they are!!!

We have found Remy to be exceptionally friendly and welcoming. In our few visits I detected zero interest from other tables about how expensive my clothes were, and of course the waiters were so friendly and seemed genuinely happy to see us---not in the least stuffy.

Wear a suit/dress pants and a jacket, and be prepared for the culinary adventure of a lifetime. Really. Of a lifetime.

He would be busy telling you that you spent $25 more than he did for his entire tux. <giggles>
(And yes he owns it) Part of the fun is to see how many places he can get away wearing it so we can bring the cost per wear as low as possible!
Don't think us too cheap, we are on a disney cruise and we do tip well. But it is now a family joke that we all enjoy.

Oh good! I was planning on having my DH wear a $10 polo shirt and $15 khakis from Walmart. I was planning on wearing a $20 dress I got at H&M with a coupon! We were planning on wearing "church chic." Although any more, people wear jeans to church.

As for borrowing shoes, it's not something I'm a huge fan of, although I do rent bowling shoes when I bowl, so I guess it's not that much of a difference.


Rich or not, it doesn't mean you should blow it all on one outfit for just a few hours. But then again, I only spent a few hundred on my wedding dress instead of thousands. That's not to say I didn't drool over some of those gorgeous Monique Lhuillier or Reem Acra dresses.

This post just makes me want to crank up some ZZ Top's "Sharp Dressed Man."

My DH doesn't even own a suit anymore. So he wore a sports coat and khakis. No problem. I was more concerned about what the chef thought about me and my food issues. Had wonderful meal both times.

Enjoy yourself at Remy. They were wonderful evenings.

This is a Disney ship, we are not talking the QE II. Disney is selling to as broad a segment of society they posibly can. If you met the dress code, who is anyone to complain.

At least you show the taste of wanting to meet the dress code as opposed to someone whose husbands jeans are so expensive they should be exempt. You may not have as expensive clothes but at least you have a better attitude.

As mentioned above, at least you're wanting to meet the dress code requirements. Having just come off the 12 day Med cruise I was shocked by how many people could care less about the dress code. Every night I saw dozens of people in shorts for dinner, and that wasn't just in the dinning rooms, at my Palo dinner and brunch there were also people wearing shorts, flip flops and t-shirts. One thing about Disney, they don't like to say NO to anyone, which is a real shame.

I have seen people sent away from Palo to go change out of shorts on more than one occasion, both dinner and brunch.

I'm of two minds. I swing hammers for a living and far from a rich sears-avoiding diner.

Yet, I don't go to a nice restaurant so that I can get away with satisfying the minimums of the dress code.

I found an christian dior tux, new for a couple hundred bucks with fittings and alterations for life. I actually enjiy rolling into V&As in tails and white tie.

When my DH retired, after 32 years, from the Marine Corps....he got rid of his Blues and Mess Dress uniforms and he doesn't own a suit. I got rid of all my gowns, cocktail dresses, and heels...don't even own a dress now. We are Native Floridians and Beachbums and when we will go on our cruise we will not be "dressing" up to eat. No formal wear for us. What you most feel comfortable in ...wear it. Don't worry about what others think. A sport coat and nice khakis are acceptable..imho.

All this kidding aside...

I completely get what OP is saying, it can be hard to not be self conscious as I've had the exact thoughts before. Sometimes comments on these boards can make you feel like you're at the low end of the money totem pole even if people don't mean it to sound that way. Keep in mind people from all walks like to go on a cruise which I think is why the dress code is in place; to give you a guideline and make you feel comfortable because everyone is somewhat uniform. This is also why I don't think they are hardcore at enforcing these rules in the MDRs (and people seem to get their panties in a bunch about this ) as long as you are within the guidelines and everyone is comfortable with it, you're ok.

The best thing I can do is tell you to be yourself, be comfortable in your skin and try (because I know it's hard) to not worry about whoever is looking at you and what they're thinking. I really only have one set of dress clothes, it's not expensive and it probably doesn't fit right but my priorities aren't throwing money at expensive clothes so much as having a good time.
