That's too bad really. Do you and he get along?​

He's not my favorite person, but he makes mom happy so that's all that matters. He can be very moody which is difficult. My biggest problem is that I can't really be around him and just relax, he always wants to make conversation. There's no comfortable silence with him. But, he makes mom happy and that's all that matters.

No. The girls can't miss school. I mean they could but after this past October trip, making up school work isn't their forte. I'd allow them to miss but they have a hard time catching up.​

Bummer.

I warned you. It's naughty. It's nostalgic too for me, having lived and worked and gone to school in Long Beach during my undergrad and when they were big.​

It's not the words, it's the beat. I've never liked a rap beat. There's nothing like nostalgia though, it's a beautiful thing.

I know the deposit for the wave phones is like $250. If something happened to one of those I'd die. Joshua is very responsible though.​

45 isn't too bad.....what do you do at the Eco park? You did a mission trip? Cool! For church? I agree, too many choices. I've been looking around the good old Internet and found some good local restaurants and beaches that would only require a cab ride. Not sure how tied down I want to be to an excursion but they sound so fun. ​

It looks like a swim/snorkle excursion in really cool environment. They have underground rivers you can swim in, natural pools, animal exhibits. I also thought of just staying on the ship but there's so many options I don't think that's a good idea. Oh yes, there are plenty of great restaurants close by. Some of the excursions aren't all day ones, you can probably do both depending on which you choose.

I can't remember how the mission trip was organized, it was with the church but not my local church. I was 14 and it was my first time out of the country besides Canada. Also first time away from my parents. My dad trusted me with some of his friends and sent me off. We helped build a church. It was an amazing experience and helped spur my wanderlust.

Well if it were winter and not as warm out...maybe not.

I wouldn't stand a chance in winter. That's one of the reasons we planned this cruise for the winter; to get me OUT of here. Every winter gets more difficult to withstand.​

I brought Sustainable, Certified Fair Trade/CI/Oxfam endorsed coffee over into our foodservice line while I was at Starbucks. Early days for that kind of thing and so it was a reward trip. We were short on marketing materials so I actually rented a professional camera and hauled that thing everywhere, Starbucks ended up using my shots in some of their store collateral. It was an amazing trip. Best part was going up to the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve, on my birthday, and drinking sipping tequila at an old shelter at the top, in the rain, in the cloud forest. One of those things you'll never forget.

You worked at Starbucks? Gabby just put in her second pplication. They were hiring while she was away. That's the job she really wants.

Wow! What a great reward trip and they used your photos?! Thats super neat. How was it working for Starbucks?

Not yet, too early unless you want to break it up payment wise which I tend to do as by the time I get to 6 m...it's paid off before I even leave. I would when you get closer, I prepay my excursions, palo and tips. Tips you can actually prepay direct or do OBC, the rest is OBC

That's a great idea to prepay. I think I should put on a little every month for the remaining 6 months and have it paid by the time we leave or within that 6 months.​

I finally got the chance to concentrate and read this article. Good info. I've also been doing some research and poking around some Mexico forums like on trip advisor. I found that cool link above I Le for Pam, the Amazing Cozumel Race. It really looks like fun. I'm not super competitive but Joshua is. I emailed them and it lasts about 4 hours so no stress getting back to the ship. Im still looking. There's a place called Cafe Denis that seems very popular and then of course leaving the 10 miles radius around the center of town is always an option. I bought 3 books from Amazon to help me brush up on my Spanish. I have a ton of apps on my phone and although the world has changed, my learning style has not and I need an old fashioned book with a pencil and paper if I'm trying to learn something.​

I agree with the character building. We try to teach the kids that not everyone has running water, TV, electricity, etc.....Michael's travels to Sierra Leone have certainly helped him with that and the kids gain a little perspective from the photos and stories but nothing like seeing it and experiencing life for yourself to truly gain insight.

I'd definitely rather do this than go over to Playa for a similar place and waste all that time traveling.

Looks like the $20 is just to get in, and if you want to do any of the animal swims its a lot extra. I really just want somewhere to swim and sunbathe and be able to easily get back to the ship.

We did Discover Mexico. You don't want to go there. It is a place for people like me who are relatively afraid of what you call "real Mexico". I kept meaning to comment when you and Cynthia were talking about being immersed and enjoying the real culture.

I am a little apprehensive about that as I soeak no Spanish and tend to be slightly paranoid. Bring in Fran's disability and I am happy to do tourist stuff as I know about the safety level. Or at least it has been Disneyfied.

Me too. I try to wake up and be grateful every day and usually am. M calls me Pollyana. My motto goes something like this: if it's not cancer then shut the front door. ​

Was that the tour you did with all of the pottery? And the different kinds of salsa? On your last cruise right? I may be getting your reports mixed up. ​

I don't blame you. Mexico and her streets are not great for those with mobility issues. Lots of uneven stones and potholes. You ladies do just great on your excursions. I know you're looking at something a little more adventuresome during your next cruise in Fall 2014. Can't wait to see what you decide.



So good news on the So Cal trip: M agreed however it's a mega budget trip with good reason. I'm okay with that though. I'm actually thrilled with that. Any trip to So Cal is a good trip. I have been perusing sites for Kids Eat Free deals etc etc....I did find out, Alison you'll like this one, that Kids Eat Free at Johnny Reb's (BBQ) in Long Beach on Tuesdays.


After we talked we sat the kids down and explained their choices: So Cal for a week but no movies, trampoline park, etc for the next month or all that lame stuff and no beach for a week. Guess which they chose?

Our first test was today. We took the boat out and love this little place in Ogden Canyon. It's called The Oaks and it's a great dive set in the gorgeous canyon with a stream behind it. Anyway on the way home one of them asked if we could stop at The Oaks for dinner and another said: nope, remember we're going to the beach. They all agreed and it was leftovers for dinner. Not that M's leftovers are a hardship but you get it.

I used the fuzziest Disney math ever to make this little beach jaunt happen; from including groceries we'd eat anyway to the money we'll save with the AC off. M didn't buy a word of it but sweetly agreed. He's a keeper. He'll be in Miami the week before so the only bummer is that we won't see him for two full weeks.​

Groceries at my friend's is a no brainer. Kids all eating WAY healthy anyway; Greek yogurt with granola and fruit every morning. My friend cooks great too, almost as good as M, so we won't suffer with my cooking.

I also ordered the OC Entertainment Book. It was $5.99 and $1 for shipping. I'm going to use what I can and then give it to Alison if she wants it. Even one coupon will make up the $7. I'm sure we'll use at least that in 7 days.

My friend suggested we could go to Catalina Island, the kids haven't been. She's so sweet. We've been friends for about 35 years. I told her no way, we can go to HB or any local beaches. She said she has 50% off for the boat over. It would still cost me $126 just to get us there. I said: no can do. I'm on a mission of my own.

Apparently booked the dinner train but that's their treat. Sigh. Jeff wants to do a couple museums. Me...I just want the pool and a cocktail. LOL! Actually I'd love to hike but that isn't going to happen as it isn't something they could manage and Evan is being all anti hike at the moment anyway. He'll get over it though. Plus it is darn hot there right now. I'll have to settle for a bike ride or run, or both, they are on a pretty trail.

Oh and dinner with the neighbors. Gotta have show and tell time. Not really sure where the down day is.

You guys doing the Georgetown Loop railroad? It's really cool...I've been trying to do the Fireworks train on the 4th of July but they have cancelled the last two years due to the dry conditions.

Not sure where Jeff's mom lives but go hiking/biking up at Red Rocks...its gorgeous. Lots of other really nice (free) hiking/biking areas here. The Natural History Museum here is really good too. Oops, just caught the anti-hiking. There are some gorgeous mountain drives nearby. And Rocky Mountain National Park is just 1 1/2 hours north of Denver.

You guys doing the Georgetown Loop railroad? It's really cool...I've been trying to do the Fireworks train on the 4th of July but they have cancelled the last two years due to the dry conditions.

We are, I had looked at the non - dinner loop in the daytime and that was a bit steep for the current budget times 4 but apparently she went ahead and booked it, their treat (have you heard if the food is any good? LOL!). It does look really cool, the boys will love it. She wanted to do Glenwood Springs which would have been fun but with hotel (she wanted 2 nights) added up and just isn't in the cards.

Not sure where Jeff's mom lives but go hiking/biking up at Red Rocks...its gorgeous. Lots of other really nice (free) hiking/biking areas here. The Natural History Museum here is really good too. Oops, just caught the anti-hiking. There are some gorgeous mountain drives nearby. And Rocky Mountain National Park is just 1 1/2 hours north of Denver.

She's got a bad knee, scheduled for surgery. So we don't want to so stuff she can't, that'd be uncool! She's not anti hiking, just can't. And, while her DH seems to be doing well, he's had nasty bouts with gout and his back so needs to be careful as well. I would LOVE to though.

They are by Cherry Creek, we can hop on the trail from their house so we do always walk/bike and probably run this trip run on the trail which is fun. It's usually just Jeff and I early in the am though but we love it.

Nothing against the Natural History Museum but it isn't the boys idea of a summer trip and I'm pretty positive we went last trip so I'm kind of vetoing it, Jeff wants to hit the Aerospace one (forget what it's called) and we will definitely do the Mint. She wants to do Elitch's, which we've done before and I'm pretty meh on myself but we haven't done the water park portion of it (did some other huge one out there...almost too huge) and the boys would like that. Tickets seemed reasonable so we will see on that one.

We may drive up to Red Rocks, will see. Have done Garden of the Gods before and Jeff doesn't want to be in the car that long. LOL!

Me too. I try to wake up and be grateful every day and usually am. M calls me Pollyana. My motto goes something like this: if it's not cancer then shut the front door. ​

So good news on the So Cal trip: M agreed however it's a mega budget trip with good reason. I'm okay with that though. I'm actually thrilled with that. Any trip to So Cal is a good trip. I have been perusing sites for Kids Eat Free deals etc etc....I did find out, Alison you'll like this one, that Kids Eat Free at Johnny Reb's (BBQ) in Long Beach on Tuesdays.


After we talked we sat the kids down and explained their choices: So Cal for a week but no movies, trampoline park, etc for the next month or all that lame stuff and no beach for a week. Guess which they chose?

Our first test was today. We took the boat out and love this little place in Ogden Canyon. It's called The Oaks and it's a great dive set in the gorgeous canyon with a stream behind it. Anyway on the way home one of them asked if we could stop at The Oaks for dinner and another said: nope, remember we're going to the beach. They all agreed and it was leftovers for dinner. Not that M's leftovers are a hardship but you get it.

I used the fuzziest Disney math ever to make this little beach jaunt happen; from including groceries we'd eat anyway to the money we'll save with the AC off. M didn't buy a word of it but sweetly agreed. He's a keeper. He'll be in Miami the week before so the only bummer is that we won't see him for two full weeks.

I'm glad the kids are on board with the budget and that the trip is a go

Cherry Creek Trail is awesome...I live right off the Highline Canal Trail....You can get anywhere in Denver between the 2 trails.

I think I had about 37 to be exact. And then M came along. I earned it fa sho!​

I hear you there...though cereal and fruit isn't exactly dinner! It is in Eric's world though....

Add a string cheese or hard boiled egg and its a balanced meal. ​

The only time we share is 5 guys fries as they are RIDICULOUS with how many they give you. That said, our deal is you eat what you order (since they don't share) OR you order from the kids menu. Or no fries or smaller/less pricey than you want.

5 Guys cajun fries are so good but I hate their burgers. The big Utah burger war is between In n Out and 5 Guys. To me, In n Out wins by a landslide. Plus 5 Guys is so expensive. Have you been to a Habit Burger? We just got those here and they make a lettuce wrapped burger that's incredible. I'm usually leery of lettuce wrap burgers but theirs is delicious.​

And then of course if anything is leftover. Jeff eats it. Right there and then.

Michael use to do that, me too. I blame the 40 lb I gained, over the course of 3 kids, on leftover bites of Kraft mac and Cheese and crusts off pb and j's. Seriously, I was a vacuum.​

I seriously live with vultures. One very large one.

Nothing goes to waste which is awesome! ​

Very rare a box makes it home and it is slim pickings if it does. Worst part is we forget we brought something home, it's in the downstairs fridge and no one remembers to eat it!

I'm a leftover fan. I love them. I always have, even as a kid. Theres nothing like cold pizza or pasta the next day. ​

August 2-8. She's had us going to a hot springs spa and hotel, an amusement park, a water park, a dinner train.

Are you guys driving or flying?​

Me, I voted for the Denver Mint and her pool. We talked her out of the mineral spa town, which sounds really cool just not in the budget but I think she is planning on the rest. Apparently booked the dinner train but that's their treat. Sigh. Jeff wants to do a couple museums. Me...I just want the pool and a cocktail. LOL! Actually I'd love to hike but that isn't going to happen as it isn't something they could manage and Evan is being all anti hike at the moment anyway. He'll get over it though. Plus it is darn hot there right now. I'll have to settle for a bike ride or run, or both, they are on a pretty trail.

Whats the Denver Mint? I am not familiar with Colorado at all. Dinner train? Is it a moving locomotive or dinner in a stationary train?

I'm all about the pool and cocktail scene too. I'm a virtual sloth on vacation.

Why is Evan anti-hike?​

Oh and dinner with the neighbors. Gotta have show and tell time. Not really sure where the down day is.

I really don't think Vegas is for kids. Heck I don't love vegas either. Sure, there are shows, good food, cool pools but I can find that lots of other places I like better. I could care less about the gambling and really don't care for the streemosphere if you know what I mean.

My kids enjoy it but not when we're on the way to some place else. If Vegas is the destination, then they're giddy but if it's just a stop, they just want to be on their way.

I however love Vegas. I always have. I can't wait for our trip in less than 2 weeks; out little anniversary jaunt. It's going to be hotter than hell. Can't wait to veg out by the pool. We made a reservation at Battista's Hole in the Wall. http://www.battistaslasvegas.com/menu.html Its amazing and literally a hole in the wall behind the Flamingo Hilton. Their linguini with clams is the best I've ever had. Plus free flowing house wine. Every meal comes with the wine, soup or salad, cappuccino, and the entree. Plus the ambiance is fantastic. It's dark and very old school and it feels like a scene from Goodfellas. I cannot wait. Thankfully we booked our room months ago because they've gone up about $30 a night.

I don't like the streetmosphere either but love a good game of Craps or Blackjack.​

They are so on board with it. Today, the girls went to the thrift store to find Gabby some high waisted shorts. The horrible kind I wore in the 80's. They sell for like $60 in the stores. She found some for $5.95 and was very proud of herself. One Direction (the UK boy band) is playing here Thursday night and they're going. They met them last June at their Vegas show so they can't wait to reconnect. No back stage this time but way better seats.
