DS likes the look of the navigators. So do I but admittedly, this is my first cruise in over 20 years. I have only been on a couple of Carnival booze cruises to Mexico in my early 20's.


Are we missing out on not getting a full verandah? Other than the obvious verandah difference, is there anything really different?


Anyone try both? What do you think?

We loved our Navigator's Verandah, we had a day of bad weather and I could still set out on the verandah with out getting wet. I thought the verandah was cozy and more private. We had some friends that had a regular verandah and when they saw ours they said they liked ours better. their next cruise that got a Navigator's verandah

Thank you! That was sort of my thinking. Plus I thought we could also put anything not immediately necessary on the verandah since its covered; empty luggage etc..as I'm an unpacker.

DS loves the idea of a porthole. I love the idea of fresh air. Seems like a good compromise.

Do you have to completely stick your head out to see?

I would not leave any thing out on the verandah, I think your CM will bring it in. if you want to see the end of the ship then you will have to stick your head out, but you can still set in the chair and see out. we were on the Magic and that port hole is a little different.

They can bring it in and I'll take it out again. I'm thinking while we're in the room, they'll be more space to move around. It's just DS and myself so I don't think we'll be that cramped.

Perfect. Setting the chair out and being able to see out will be great.







Do all of the verandas have lounge chairs?

Your empty suitcases should fit under the bed, even on the classics. Just pick it up a bit.

We've been in all three types of verandahs. We had a solid white wall the first time in the back of the ship, liked that because it was bigger.

Last year we took two cruises; the first one out of NYC we had a navigator's verandah...LOVED that because we had a couple of nights with rain, we were able to sit out on the verandah and didn't feel a drop while it was storming. It's also much more private. There aren't any chairs though, there are cushioned benches on either side of the verandah. You can't see the shoreline in the navigator's if you're sitting but it is plenty big enough for more than one person to stand and see out. We were on the Magic and their Navigator's are round instead of oval like the Wonder, so there would be even more room with one of those.

On our second cruise last year out of Galveston, we had a regular verandah, LOVED that also because you can just sit and watch everything and you can see out from the room also. If you are a person who loves to have your coffee and croissant breakfast on the verandah, then that's the way to go. It would definitely be worth the $50 for that reason alone.

We don't get to choose the type of verandah we get because we always sail in a "space available" room because our daughter is a mainstage performer on the ship and we get what is available when she books it for us. If I got to choose, I'd probably go with the regular verandah.

You really can't go wrong with any of them though, it's really a matter of preference and how you plan to use it. Whatever you decide, ENJOY!!!!!

I can't believe the difference is only $50. Can you tell me what deck I'd be on by the description if I choose a verandah room? I'm new to this and still don't understand the categories etc...

Just an idea to check on before you decide to spend the $50. On the Wonder and Magic there are 4 "secret verandas". They are basically 7As like the navigators, but they are actually regular verandas with a slight obstruction. I'm on my iPad so I can't link threads, but if you search secret verandah they will pop up some with pictures. If you are thinking about switching to a regular verandah you might want to see if any of these are available first, because it wouldn't cost you the extra money. They are rooms 6134, 6634, 7120, and 7620.

5 - Plexiglass - there are railings with a sheet of plexiglass in front. Not totally clear but you can sit and see out. Some sleep 3, others 4.

4 - Same plexiglass but with the "family" sized room which is slightly larger. Some have murphy beds and can sleep 5. You also gain an extra chair in seating.

The letters just denote the cruise line's value of a room. The higher the letter the "better" it is. Higher deck, closer to midship, no obstructions, those kinds of things. So a 4A would be the "best": read biggest, highest up, midship non-concierge room.

Our daughter LOVES working for DCL!!! Especially this contract, she's cruising the Mediterranean right now and getting paid to do it.

We have been on Deck 6 (on the Magic) for all three verandahs we had. I love that deck because it's like the halfway point to everything on the Magic - didn't use the elevators much at all. If you call DCL to make your reservation, they should be able to tell you available rooms and then you can pick the one you want. Just have the deck plan on your computer so you can see exactly where the room is. I particularly like the starboard side of the ship but that's just a preference, we've been on both sides. We've only done adult only cruises so being on Deck 5 was never an attraction to us because of all the kids' areas, deck 7 is usually the higher priced ones so we never got that deck. We've never gotten to choose our deck because we have to take what is listed as "space available" but each time we got Deck 6. We also tend to like the back of the ship because you feel less movement there.

If you love your mornings with coffee on the verandah, then pay the extra $50, it will be worth it. TIP: If you need coffee as soon as you get up, order a carafe late night from room service, it will still be hot enough in the morning...oh and order a few chocolate chip cookies to go along with it. I don't drink coffee but my husband does and it was nice for him to wake up and have his coffee already waiting for him.

Great tip on the coffee, thank you! I'm a very early riser so a nice cup before breakfast will be nice. I can't believe it stays warm that long.

I'm going to have to call DCL and check out the full verandah options. From what I've read, deck 7 seems like a good fit for us so I hope that's an option.

I'm so happy I'm not alone. I have truly read the descriptions over and over but admittedly spacial relations aren't my thing. I'm book smart but have very little common sense. Haha! I'm bad with directions as well. DH is constantly saying: your other right (or left) when giving me driving directions.
