Long time planner, first time visitor!

Hey y'all! Just thought I would post a quick tutorial on how I did the painted shirts in case anyone was interested and didn't want to go searching through Pinterest for one! :thumbsup2

Ok so here are the painted shirts I made

Our Harry Potter shirts for IOA

Toy Story shirts for DHS

Travel shirts for our plane ride up to Disney!

All 3 of these were made using the same method! Super easy!!

You will need:
T Shirt Paint (Not the puffy kind, actual shirt paint, found at craft stores)
Sponge Paint Brush
Freezer Paper
Permanent Marker

Here are the steps:

1. Find a picture you want and make a stencil! For the Toy Story shirts I found pics of all the characters on google, printed them in the same size, and then I just traced the outline of the characters onto the freezer paper! A cut-out like those is super simple. Now my plane and HP shirts were a bit more difficult. I traced them on the paper (use your perm marker for this bc you will be ironing over it) and then I had to do some fancy and tedious cutting with very fine point scissors to get just the dark parts of the picture cut out.

After this step it is all very very easy....here's a pic of the next 4 steps...

This shows what my cut out looked like for ya!

2. Next you will lay your freezer paper on your shirt and iron it on! It's awesome, it sticks and stays put, yet peels off so easy and leaves zero residue. I love it!

3. You use a dabbing technique with your sponge brush and paint your shirt!

4. Wait for it to slighty dry, about a minute or two, and then very carefully peel of the stencils!

Viola! There ya go! Let it dry completely and you're done! This is supposed to be permanent, though I suspect it will fade some. They really are quite cool, and have the look of a screen print shirt, in my opinion.

Another fun thing you can do with the iron on freezer paper is the bleach sprayed shirts....simply cut out a shape, such as a Mickey head, iron it on a shirt, take it outside with a spray bottle of bleach and mist over the shirts, wait 5 minutes and repeat until desired look is done! Beware, you will want to go crazy spraying the first time, but just do a little bit and then wait! I completely over did my first time and ruined a shirt, the bleach actually ate hole through it! I also used plain ole letter stickers to make the outline of our names! ***NOTE: You will want to throw these in the wash by themselves IMMEDIATELY once completed to deactivate the bleach! Otherwise you will get holes, as the bleach will just keep eating through your fabric!*** Here's the completed product-

Finally, the last type of shirt I did was an iron on. You can buy rolls of iron on paper in the craft dept of almost any store. But be careful! If you do not want to stitch around the edges of your designs then your need to get the PERMANENT iron on transfer paper. It states on the package not to stitch with this material! So that is what I use.

Simply cut a section of paper (I usually use a square bigger than I need) and peel back one side of the transfer paper and iron it to a piece of fabric of equal size. Then cut the shape you want, like a Mickey Head, and then you peel back the paper on the opposite side to iron on to your shirt! Simple! Finished product...

Hope that helps someone! Enjoy and happy crafting!!:cool1:

I just found your PTR, and I LOvE it! We are headed back in October and I haven't done a ton of planning the little stuff yet. Your trip and plans made me so excited! Can't wait to read more!

BTW, I'm from East TN...I don't think I could stop saying y'all if I tried!!

What is freezer paper?

I just found your PTR, and I LOvE it! We are headed back in October and I haven't done a ton of planning the little stuff yet. Your trip and plans made me so excited! Can't wait to read more!

BTW, I'm from East TN...I don't think I could stop saying y'all if I tried!!

Thanks! I see you have a PTR, I'm sure that will be my reading for tonight!

Thanks so much for the tutorials!!! I really love the bleach one - that turned out way cool and, I just love it... I may have to borrow that idea.

I've had something on my brain for a while now, and I wasn't quite sure how I wanted to do it, my mind always goes directly to sewing, but the bleach might be a fantastic idea! Thanks so much for sharing. Again - I just love all of your shirts!

D~

Thanks D! That's a compliment for sure! I want to check out these bags of yours...where do you sale thru?

When I first started reading blogs to get advice and gear up for The World I fell in love with what is commonly referred to as “Pixie Dust.” I have formed my own definition based on the varying types I have found…

Pixie Dust (piks-e duh-st): Any extras that are done, made, or given to someone to enhance the magic of their Disney Trip.

Teehee. Anyhow, of course, I HAD to do this. After all, it is our first trip and I am one of those people anyway, so this just made perfect sense to me!!!

So there you have it, Pixie Dust- done and done! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
:hyper: Oh, I love the pixie dust. You really did a great job. I think stuff like this really adds to the magic of the trip. Your girls will be so excited. This is such a fun way to make the most of your WDW vacation. The swim suits are adorable. I absolutely love the idea of the little notes from the characters for each day. :flower3: Using the books to use as autograph/keepsakes for the meals is a great idea (I think I have read that snow White book many times). Those little safari hats are cool, I hope the girls wear them for a picture at least because they will be so cute.

I think your Disney Box is a great way to stay organized. I have a bunch of stuff that I shove in my closet but do have trouble finding it when it is time to pack. I really need to get organized.

I think older kids would still love the fun even if they don't really believe Mickey is leaving gifts for them! You could do things like Pins, accessories, and candy!
Another good idea. I think I could almost convince my son but my DD is obviously on to me. She will play along and my son will be too excited not to "believe". Tinkerbell has delivered notes to my DD a few times on our past trips. :thumbsup2

Haha, I don't think my hubby realizes just how much stuff I have ended up with! It'll be a shocker as he sees it all after the trip. And I purposely tried to pick small things for the goodie bags! However we are flying southwest and you get 2 free checked bags per person plus 1 carry on, so we plan to take basically an empty suitcase for souvenirs, lord knows I live to shop! Thankfully with having an assigned shirt each day there's really not many clothes to pack, just some shorts and pjs!
Yeah for Southwest! Having the assigned shirts makes packing (and getting dressed) so much easier. I tend to over pack and this really cuts down on that and then I know I have a matching pair of shorts for each shirt and I'm not stuck with things that don't go on the last day. I always put my kids clothes in ziplocks now, labeled with the day of the week they will wear them. Helps them (and dad) know what they should wear that day.

Being a home schooling family, I simply have to take any opportunity to expand our minds when possible, including on our Disney trip!
Nothing super hard or anything, but my hope is that when she sees certain things it will trigger what she learned and she will in turn be more interested in seeing that country!

There ya have it! If you've done something to promote learning at Disney either before, during, or after your trip please let me know! I would love ideas! Also, if you are interested in the worksheets I made I will be happy to email them out once I complete all 11 countries. As long as you use them for your own personal use and don't distribute them please! :goodvibes
:worship: These workbook pages are great. This will really help your DD enjoy some of the things she sees in WS. It is a good ice breaker for talking to the cast members at the coloring areas and the cast members will be happy they know about their country. I think I am going to try and get some library books about the countries before our trip. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hate to add more to your plate but have you seen the world showcase passports? We made those (I think two years) but one year we just had the CM from each country stamp their autograph books and write in them.

All your shirts look great, the bleach ones are super. I have never seen them with the names on them before. Such great tips for making them.

You did a great job getting everything together for your trip. :cool1: I might PM you for your source for the pins and pearl cages. We have never done the pick a pearl and I think I will have my DD do it on our upcoming trip.

Thanks! I will def get a pic in the hats at the very least!!!

Yea, that's how I am! Someone on a blog I read used a box as the catch all and that's when I knew I had to do that, it's been so great!

Yea, this is gonna be so fun, I am just as excited to see her reactions!

I agree. I want as little stuff to take as possible because I plan to come back with much more!! I am actually gonna probably take a couple pears of jean shorts to wear a few times versus shorts for each day. If they get super dirty there is always the laundry room at the resort!! I also love bringing the cheap dollar store pop up hampers to keep all the dirty clothes in the room in, and on our last morning ( a travel day only) I will get up early and go throw everything in the wash, nothing worse then coming home depressed about leaving Disney and having to do all that laundry too! And I just started doing the ziplock bag thing on our last trip, it really is so nice, because Olivia knows how to get dresses herself!

Thanks!! I have heard about passports, is it something you buy there? If that was the case I was just going to let the CMs sign whatever we have because I would rather spend money on souvenirs from each country versus the passport book. Now if there's something people actually make beforehand that is a whole other ball game! I am down for that, please let me know!

:goodvibes Makes me so happy when people like our shirts! I really thought hard about those!! The bleach are too easy! Anyone could do it!

And the pearl cages and the pins I literally just types in "pearl cage carriage" and "Disney pin lot" in Ebay and there was tons of both! Pearl cages was about $12 with shipping for the 2 using buy it now, and pin lots you can get cheaper if you bid at odd times of day, like late in the evening etc. But still a SUPER CRAZY good bargain over paying for them there! :cool1:

I really want to make them!!! REALLY adorable!!!

DO IT! It's so fun, and your kids can totally help! The really fun part was picking each persons character for the Toy Story shirts! So fun! If you do any post on your PTR, I love reading it!;)

Hi! I just jumped over to your PTR and OMG your plans sound amazing!!

First, your daughters are so adorable!

I wish I had been this planned out for my first trip to Disney World. Your family is going to have such a great time. I love all of the shirts you made and all of the little gifts for the girls. I'm going to have to save this PTR and come back to it when I have kids of my own to take :rotfl2: because seriously, I am just not that creative. I love it.

I can't wait to read more!!:goodvibes

sorry, lost your quote but wanted to respond...

Here is a link to the Disign thread where you can request a copy of Epcot passport you can print at home. If you read through the thread you can figure out which one might be best for you. He has lots of different versions. We have done the print at home one that is about the size of a standard US passport. We have also had the CMs just sign the autograph books that we bring. The CMs took time to write a message and decorate their autograph book pages. :goodvibes

Hope this link works:

Thanks those look great, but I'd don't really understand how you would go about printing them and assembling them...

I totally agree with you about World Showcase....Bradey just loved it! Epcot is a two day park for us.

Those shirts are really really cool and next time I go in the cooler months, I will make them all! But for summer, I have to wear moisture-wicking stuff. I am having trouble thinking of what to do because I can't iron on, bleach, or otherwise alter those kind of shirts as easily as cotton. Thinking of bows on my flipflops or something fun for a headband.

But the plane one is one I will have to try because we will mostly be inside that day ::yes::

Oh my gosh-I just have to join in! I started on the DIS cuz I was driving my husband crazy and needed an outlet for all the Disney in my head, we will also be at the parks on my birthday, and we also have a second daughter named Maddie!! So many similarities!
I think your plans sound awesome and I'm so excited for you to stay at AoA. It looks so fun. We are already planning a trip with friends in 2017 and that's where we'll be staying.
Your shirts all turned out so cute! I have those pinned as well. I was going to make shirts but found this awesome etsy page and am ordering some iron ons from her instead. I'm going to try the bleach one for our daughters' bday party I think.
Have you found a place for dinner yet at MK? You should try for an ADR at crystal palace. Our kids loved it and the buffet was delicious. We did breakfast and dinner there last time and were very happy.
I saw those same carriage pearl cages on etsy. I wasn't sure if they'd be as cute in person so I'm glad to hear from someone who actually has them that they are.
I love your countdown chalkboard (you are SSSOOOOOOO close!). I may have made a paper chain for our jan 2014 trip that started at 325 days......(yes, I have lost my mind but I needed something to look forward too!)::yes::
Sorry this was so long, but I just loved your PTR!
P.S. we've also watched those discover Disney Netflix shows. They're the reaon we are doing a Disney cruise in 2015! :woohoo:
