Just got back from a week of Magic..
July 2-9. Very crowded on the 4th they even shut down entrances to Main St and detoure us around the back side of the castle. There were several big groups but a couple very Large ones from Brazil I think. I didnt see to many problems but the first day I noticed a group of at least 60-75 walking in a group taking up the whole street not yielding to anyone walking around them. Just my opinion big groups should have to break up in smaller ones. Thay may have actually happend because I never saw them as a big group toward the end of our trip. Is there big groups like that all year? Or is it a Summer thing?

Brazil has holiday month in July, and their summer recess is from December- February depending upon the area. Most schools run February- June and then August- December.

Hence you tend to see large youth-type groups in July while on holiday, or family-based groups primarily in January/February during their summer.

We were there at the same time and saw many groups. On Saturday, when we got to Epcot my husband said "it's like an entire country just arrived". BUT - they did break down into smaller groups. For much of our trip, we saw groups of maybe twenty people and that was it. There were lots of groups but each did their own thing and at no time were we bothered by them. If they zigged, we zagged and vice versa.

Over the years I've noticed fewer and fewer of the huge groups we used to encounter. I don't know it for a fact but I suspect all the negative attention the big tours have received in the past may have led to them breaking off into smaller groups. It's good PR for the tour groups if they're no longer clogging up the streets and dominating the attraction lines, and, honestly, it must be a lot easier to tour if there are 10 of you rather than 50 following the flag! Kind of a win-win for everyone...

glad to hear they are splitting into smaller groups, last July was awful with huge groups.

From what I've read, the big 2 months for Brazilian tour groups is January and July.

I'm going in January, so planning on running the other way when I see them. I have read many reports that they do not always break into smaller groups. I don't want to end up in line behind 75 Brazillan teenagers.

We are presently in Disney and the huge groups have made the magic kingdom unbearable. It is extremely difficult to get in rides or walk through the park. It has been very disappointing. Most of them are not breaking into small groups. We planned two weeks and thought that the week of the fourth would be the busy week. Those crowds were nothing compared to the impact these touring groups have had. We will nevèr return in July.

We were there June 29 th to Julyut 6 th. there was a world dance something going on. There were dance groups from all over the world. Most were well mannered. tthere was one group that kept knocking into us just like we were not even there. We just stayed away from the red backpack group as we called them. It is just hard when a very large group gets there right before you for a ride. We tried to single rider TT and it jumped to an hour wait due to a very large group before us. We did it another day instead. The other thing I did not enjoy much was the chanting groups. They chanted in lines and while walking. We did see a CM ask them to stop while entering a park. I think it was too distracting for them to monitor the entry.
Oh, and we had a group in the 4 rooms next to ours. Although they were always polite whe we saw them, they had a habit of running in and out of each others rooms letting doors slam along the way late at night and early
in the a.m.

January and July are the worst of it and NOT just at Disney..they are also a HUGE prescence at Universal and Seaworld

Since when is "walking together in a large group" against park rules or disturbing in any way?

We got back from a WDW trip last week and encountered lots of groups from Brazil, and all of the kids seemed to be very well-behaved and pleasant.

What's the difference between three parties of 5 in front of you and one party of 15 in front of you? The fact that they're wearing the same colored shirts? :confused3

I would not have a problem with a party of fifteen. We had a party of fifty in line with us. We were here last week when it started and the number of groups is continuing to increase. We have given up one he parks. A party of 50 instantly increases the wait time by 30 minutes.

I just picked an arbitrary number.

My point is...why does it matter if they are a group of 50? How is that any different than 50 people from separate groups and families that would be in front of you in line regardless?

From many, many posts I have read, the problem with the Brazil groups is they seem to link arms and think it is ok to walk down the street 15 abreast. and they also have issues with very loud behavior (I know people have a right to be loud, they are having fun on vacation) but their's is excessive. They also have a problem with personal space and bumping into and crowding people in queues. It is really just a cultural difference that they don't understand.

It isn't about 50 guests that travel together vs 15 families that make up 50. Their behavior and Disney's toleration of that behavior of the groups is what is viewed as negative. They lock arm-in-arm and walk through the parks 10-wide not letting other guest through. They run into others to get what/where they want and are a pushy. They are notorious for taking flash photos the entire time during dark rides/attractions (all 50 cameras), they chant their native anthems during attractions, they cut in lines pretty consistently, etc. It is a complete lack of respect for other guests that cause them to be viewed so negatively. And when you get a bunch of teens that know one another in a large group, it tends to exacerbate the situation. The 15 random families making up 50 MIGHT have one of two misbehaving members.....but not the entire group.

I will agree that the chanting tends to get loud, but for the most part the young groups we dealt with over July 4 were fairly respectful. No chanting in attractions (a bit at the start of FOTLK), no 15-wide-arm-links, and no shoving or queue jumping.

I will also say there were groups from Argentina and Paraguay as well, and one group from Argentina in particular was INCREDIBLY respectful. If they became separated going into a queue, they allowed the families between the two halves of their group to pass IN FRONT of them, essentially moving the front half of the group backwards in line to meet up with the rest of their party :worship:

Well, I've never once had any problems with them. Nor have I ever heard the Brazilian National Anthem while on a ride! :rotfl2:
