Every time DCL announces that a cruise has been cancelled or altered in some way, many say that they never knew that this could happen. I know that this has happened with MANY cruises over the years. If you know of specific cruises, please list the date of cruise, ship, why it changed, and what offer was made by DCL. I will keep a chronological list in this first post so it can be referenced to help new cruisers be aware.

I have searched through the meet & main forums to get dates for cruises I remember being affected, along with information posted here. If something needs to be corrected, PLMK!

Thanks for your help putting this together!

*** Adding cruises that are closed for booking opening day because chartered for history. ***

I know that the last Med cruise one year was chartered, after many cruises were revamped for that same summer. The Wonder had MR cruises cancelled when it was moved to Galveston, then there were at least two times where those cruises were revamped. Every year there has been at least one DVC cruise. Every time a ship does dry dock this happens. There was one time a cruise was cancelled due to Norwalk years ago as well. The combined cruises the year the hurricane lengthened a cruise to a 10-night could also be on the list.

Thanks for your help putting this together!

DATE -- SHIP -- CANCELLED/CHANGED -- OFFER BY DCL

08/24/14 Dream --Cancelled/chartered -- $100 OBC, get price of cruise date originally booked

This will be interesting, but it should be noted that you get opening day prices, NOT the price of your cruise as originally booked. At least one was quoted $800 more (and the $100 OBC to 'offset' the pain of that...)

I didn't say the same price you originally booked. They are honoring the price of the cruise you change to that it was as of the date you booked the 8/24 cruise. If you only booked a month ago, they are honoring the price that date. You are only getting opening day pricing if you booked the 8/24 cruise opening day. This has been DCL's policy with this situation in the past as well.

12/xx/10 -- 4/7/12 Fantasy MV -- Switched to 3/31/12 -- No offer made

What is MV?

If they were to change our Spring Break cruise, we would be sunk. Can't take any other time off due to school, and we're not going during the summer.

I think I said it weird, but thanks for clarifying on that line! :thumbsup2

MV = Maiden Voyage
Talk about being upset. Many people couldn't switch their week and had been excited about being on the first official cruise of the Fantasy. It sold out way before that date. The shipyard was ahead of schedule, so DCL moved it up.

8 night Magic sailings out of Galveston switched to 4 nights. I know because we picked up our (February 4, 2013 four nights) for a song after they split it. The people who were most upset were on the eight night over Texas spring break that got split to two 4 nights. Off to look up dates on those.
Edit to add dates of split 8 nights out of Galveston all on the Disney Magic
2/1/2013-2/9/2013
3/15/2013-3/24/2013
4/12/2013-4/20/2013
All were split to two four night cruises to Cozumel from 8 night Westerns to Grand Cayman, Costa Maya and Cozumel. Feel free to read back on the meets threads to see reactions.

10/xx/12 -- 9/29/13 Dream 4 night -- DVC member cruise charter -- on board credit $100-$200?, back dated pricing on new cruise

There were also the fall 12 member cruise and Jan 13 member cruise on the Dream that were likely cancelled in fall 11. I even think the fall cruise had one date in Oct, then it switched to an earlier date in sept, reinstating the oct cruise after people went through the hassle of rebooking from the oct date. I think some people were able to switch back.

Went and looked up dates.
In Sept 2011 the 10/21/12 Dream cruise was chartered as DVC cruise, and current bookings were cancelled, then DVC switched dates and this went back to regular cruise
9/16/12 actual Dream DVC member cruise
1/10/13 actual Dream DVC member cruise

Also didnt they just change some 2014 magic cruises to the Wonder back in early/mid June. I guess those technically weren't cancelled but they changed the ship for several cruises and some itineraries were changed so people were moved to other sailings that matched the original itinerary.

Thank you for noting the dates. There is no way to search for those meet threads since the links have been removed from the yearly lists so I can't find when the changes were made with a search.

Yes, I just haven't had the time to find the dates yet.

. . . There was one time a cruise was cancelled due to Norwalk years ago as well.

That was in 2002 when there were 195 sick passengers and crew members: CNN

11/30/2002 Magic 7-night -- 11/30/2002 -- Cancelled due to Norwalk virus.

We sailed on the Magic in August 2009 (don't remember the exact date, but it was around the 17th or so). Our itinerary was changed due to a hurricane (sorry, can't remember which one!) We were supposed to go to the eastern Caribbean but ended up doing Cozumel, Grand Cayman and 2 CC's!

Thank you! I didn't remember when it was.

There have been too many of those to record them here. This will be for changes made prior to the cruise by DCL, not due to the weather while on the cruise. :)

was wondering if disney changes a cruise after you've paid for it and you can't book another cruise due to work conflicts etc etc etc does disney refund your cruise price AND airfare??

The only time airfare was involved was the 2011 Med cruise that was chartered. They refunded cancellation fees for airfare & hotels. They specifically noted that they would cover those fees. They have not done this as an offer at another time.

The reason they don't normally pay airfare fees is they are cancelling 15 to 18 months prior to the original date and noone can purchase airfare that early.

There were also the 8 nights Magic changed to Bahamian from Westerns out of Galveston. April 26, 2013 was one...we were thrilled to do Disney without airfare, but we had people cancel who were flying into Texas out of Florida who weren't.
