When you purchase direct while on vacation

at WDW, would any part of the amount you already paid for said vacation be taken as a down payment for your DVC purchase?

I remember being offered something of the sort back in 2009, saying if I bought (we decided not to) into AKV during the trip, then the amount we had spent on the trip would be considered as part of our payment, or somehting like that.

Cant remember exactly what I was offered though

Does anyone know if something like that if being offered right now?

Thanks!

DVD hasn't done that in years and years, they don't need to. DVC pretty much sells itself even at the current high prices.

If they did offer that, many people who planned on buying DVC would use that offer to get a free resort stay.

If I planned on buying 250 AKV points direct, I would book a 5 night stay there and let them pick up the tab on the DVC contract I was already prepared to purchase. ;)

Everyone talks about how expensive DVC is and how the incentives have dropped off to almost nothing - doesn't that seems like an oxymoron?? what do you suppose will make the incentives return??

It's not a contradiction. When demand is high, prices rise and incentives disappear.

Disney/DVC is like any other business, over stocked, have a sale. People beating down your door to buy, raise the prices while reducing the quality. Want to make even more money, hype the merchandise and create a market of exclusivity.

When we bought in 1997, we were allowed to use our stay at the Polynesian towards our purchase. But that was the last time it was offered that I am aware of. We bought direct three more times, ending in 2001.

When we originally bought in '93, we were staying at DL-AB and used part of that reservation's monies as down payment.

Not true, I know for a fact that as of at least March 2012, if you were staying onsite they gave $1600 towards the purchase. The amount was the same no matter where you stayed and was offered as an "incentive" because you paid for your room. They don't want to ask where you are staying (not sure why) so they made it standard across the board.

When I was staying at Paradise Pier in DL they applied our room cost to the purchase as a credit. This was in 2008 and at AKL. Plus we received the 160 developer points, 4 WDW annual passes, $1280 developer credit(on top of the 1000 room credit). It came to about 87 per point with the annual passes. I probably could have opted to get a cash benefit instead of the WDW passes but we chose the passes.

They were offering that in 1998 when we looked into it

They offered this to us, however it was aboard DCL last fall. They counted the cost of our cruise towards our purchase price. They also prorated our first year's cost but gave us an entire year's points allotment.

Is there any reason to hold off buying until you're in the park? A mall out by us has a DVC store, thinking of stopping in there and seeing if there's any incentive.

Not any more. It closed several months ago.
