Would paying 290 be worth it to go from a garden view at Pofq to a standard RR at Riverside?
Really like the look of the RR more anyone stayed at both and can compare them?
Thanks

We've stayed at both, and I say $290 total more for your whole vacation might be worth it for sure!

Pros for POR:
*We LOOOOOOOVED POR as far as the grounds were concerned. The theming was right on point and we loved having the rivers and bridges winding through the property.
*The RR are gorgeous! I think they are way prettier (and newer) than the rooms at POFQ.
*Seemed to be a wider array of options at the food court like make your own pasta and rotisserie chicken (although we haven't been to POFQ in 5 years, so maybe their options have changed?)
*The gift shop is larger and has more selection. (Even one of the CMs was raving about this to us during our stay. She said she's normally at POFQ and she was sent to POR that day and was in awe :rotfl:)
*Yeehaa Bob...need I say more? ;)

Pros for POFQ:
*We MUCH preferred the bus situation at POFQ.
*Shorter boat rides to and from DTD (only by about 5 minutes)
*Smaller resort, so less walking to get to pools/buses/food, but in all honesty, POR didn't seem that massive to us and we felt our walk was very similar to any walk we ever had at POFQ

We are driving from canada so the buses are not an issue the rooms at pofq from pics just look old and seems to have no theming

You might be looking at old pics, because they just went through a major refurb two years ago and the theming is beautiful. I love the new color choice.

Hi everyone

Can someone give me some guidance on which category of room I am best to book?

It's just me and DH and in an ideal world we would like a location close to the main amenities and a king bed

Should I book a preferred room and add a request for a king bed?

OR

Should I book a king bed room and request a close location?

TIA :)

Last year I booked a king room and requested first floor during online check-in and got a corner room quiet pool view. Couldn't have chosen a better location myself. I love how they just know what to do!

Thanks - the more I think about it I think we will book preferred as we really want to stay in AB and then if I can add a request for a king bed, I will
No biggie either way. We can't wait to stay at the beautiful resort :)

You need to BOOK a King Bed room, and REQUEST a location close to the main buildings.

All of the rooms with king-size beds in them are sold under the 'King Bed' category, even those located in buildings 14, 15, etc. If you booked a Preferred Location room you would get either a standard or garden view room in buildings 14, 15, 18 or 27 - but you won't get a king bed.

Forgot to add: We still had the time of our lives at the value resort! My son still says it was the happiest week of his life (mine too).

A budget trip is better no trip at all. But here's hoping something comes along to let you upgrade one day ;)

Thanks for all the great info!! We returned after staying at POR from June 22-July 2. It was incredible. Thanks to venom hatch, building q17 was perfect. I faxed in our request a week before arrival and we got everything -- for all three parties! It was the perfect location for us-- we had a car and drove to all the parks. We loved the quiet pool right there and actually never made it to the big pool.

Everyone working there was incredible! We had some extra magic our first day as my parents arrived. We were looking to surprise my two DDs and my three DNs with their arrival. While we were in MK with my sister's family, my mom started talking to Zach, one of the front desk managers. They came up with this very elaborte plan. We got a call that we had a "package" at the front desk and both families needed to be there to pick it up at the front desk. When we arrived, one of the CMs with the Brazilian program greeted us and asked if we were looking for anything special. We said yes, a package. They sat down all the girls in the lobby. After a short wait, the CMs came out with green and purple balloons and then gave them to the girls along with special signed cards from he characters. They then gathered them around and said they had another gift for them, and gave them all stuffed Minnies (their idea to do this). Then, they said there was one last package and my parents walked it. It was incredible and totally the idea of the CMs working there. What a magic moment! Here's the rough video from my DH's phone: http://youtu.be/L05ky_Bm2G8 :goodvibes

Of course, we then got on the boat to DTD and it stalled (trying to avoid another small boat) and crashed into a bridge and we had to be towed). A unique form of Disney transportation! :rotfl2:

Pros for POR: Gorgeous! We were in Alligator Bayou and it always felt so serene. The CMs wee all great. POR is located close to a lot of the parks, resorts, etc. Even when it was full capacity at the end of our trip, it never felt that way. There was always a calm there. It was always a nice escape from a crazy park day. We would stay here again.

Cons for POR: Food court was always crazy and often very inefficient. Our first day, it took 90 minute for lunch -- and we didn't eat until 1. Just total inefficiencies. Boatwright's was good food, but we had a bad experience. Waited 30 minutes past our reservation time only to go to our table in a half full restaurant. Our server was very slow and unaccomodating. It was a two hour dinner and just painful. Food was good, but I wouldn't eat there again. Aso, one day we had mouse keeping come in, they left all our lights on and shades open (we had them closed). We had chargers and a few electronic accessories on the table, so they were in full sight until we returned at 11 p.m. We didn't have them come again. We just called for towels. All of these (other than the food court) seem circumstantial. We only complained about the mouse keeping because of the other great service and the special magic. Oh and storage in the room is not great, but you all know that already!

Great trip! Great resort! :goodvibes

This may be true for some, but for me if I can't stay at POR and have to pinch pennies while I'm there it's not worth it to me. I want a care free trip! That being said, Disney is also not an annual trip for us.

It is for medical reasons and we flying. I really don't want to use the food court one for our medical needs

I would call the resort a week before arriving and explain the need for medical reasons. Then I would follow up with a fax with my requests as mentioned earlier in this thread.

Have a great trip!

I love this resort. We went in July last year and it was packed but we never noticed. It seemed to peaceful and serene all the time. Well, except dinner time lol

Ditto! We found ourselves feeling like we were the ONLY people staying there until we walked into Riverside Mill :rotfl: The grounds are so peaceful and serene and beautiful!

I almost lost it at the video..so awesome!! I love that they were so accommodating and the idea is wonderful. I can tell you made their day as much as they made yours :)

It was incredible! I planned most of the trip, so it was nice to not know what was going on for this special piece!
