We're from Canada so we'll be coming from pretty cold weather in Feb to probably weather in the 70s.
is pool heat really necessary?

I would say yes -- we are from Canada too and it can still be chilly in Florida Jan-Mar. The daytime temps might be in 70s but when the sun goes down, the temps drop. Pool water would get chilly overnight.

thanks, I didnt account for the nighttime and then trying to heat up again which it probably would never do once it dropped down.

Yes. Absolutely pay to have the pool heated if you want to swim. I assume you are renting a house with a pool.

Just the townhouses with the small plunge pools for the kids to splash around in.

I notice later that you are looking at WH. I haven't stayed there but have read all kinds of good things about it. We are interested in it for our next family trip. Good luck.

Yes now we're thinking of a house there instead.

We have gone in Feb and the pools at the Disney hotels are heated to 82 degrees. Pool heat is necessary in Feb as the nights can get quite chilly.

Yep, what they said. We rented a house in Feb 11 for 10 days and the first few days were cold, think May in Halifax! (I was wearing shorts, but i was making a point!) Even when it warmed up, the pool was cool earlier in the day, and that was with heat. In our case at least the heat wasn't that warm, still refreshing. My friend brought her kids over (they were born there) and they still found it cold. It was mostly the Canucks and the Brits swimming. :goodvibes

Pool water doesn't warm at the same temperature as the air. It will be in the 80s for a month before you'll even start to notice the water temperature creeping up. An unheated pool is heart-stoppingly cold in February.
