King bed request. Value resort.

Hey, new to Disney, figuring out the details slowly but surely. We are booked at Pop Century Sep 22-26. We are working with a dreams unlimited travel agent whom we really like.

She did inform us that there is no way to guarantee a king bed, but we are welcome to request it. We HATE double beds as we both tend to sprawl out while sleeping, but didn't think the cost to upgrade to a moderate resort for a guarantee king was worth it.

Any tips or tricks for securing a king bed at check-in or before? Or should I just prepare myself for sleeping in a too-small bed? What has been your experience with value resort bed sizes?

We have booked with dreams unlimited multiple times and have always been given great rooms with great locations. I have a feeling it will work out well. It never hurts to mention it at check-in. You may just get some pixie dust. Have a great vacation.

I have no idea as it has never worked for us. That is why we don't stay at value resorts anymore.

I'm curious, though - not interested in personal details at all, but if you like to sprawl, a king bed is 75 inches wide while each double bed is 54 inches wide. Double beds seem to allow much greater sprawl capacity.

The only reason why a request would be denied is if there are too many requests for a king. At least in our experience, Disney does their best to accommodate a request. However, there aren't that many king rooms at POP and quite a few of the king rooms are handicapped accessible - so a person who needs a handicapped accessible room gets top priority for those rooms.

With six of us going once, I had requested a room with a king and a room with two doubles when I booked at Music a few years ago. I was given a handicap room for the king room. I loved that room! I'm not sure why we got it but it was nice.

Just an FYI...when we requested a king at POP 2 years ago, we got the king, but it was also a handicap-accessible room. I won't request a king again because I don't like having a bathroom like that.

We like to sprawl while having the option to cuddle
I guess since we've only been married 4 years, the idea of sleeping separate beds just seems crazy

I believe the request is already noted, and we are planning to check in fairly early. We are restricted by what time DH's work conference ends on check-in day.

Preferred just means that it's closer to the main building / pool area. I doubt it'll improve your chances of getting a king.

Nope. There are 155 or 160 king beds at Pop, spread out pretty evenly among the ten buildings. With more standard than preferred rooms, it makes sense there'd be more king standard rooms than king Preferred rooms. Not many more, but more.

Agree with above, minus the bed part - I wouldn't want to sleep in a separate bed from my husband for our whole vacation so I don't think that's such a crazy thing. In any event, I definitely agree with not using online check-in. They will assign you a room that is ready based on your arrival time, and requests are considered secondary (if at all). Also, the earlier you arrive at the resort, the more room inventory they have to play with so they can switch you around to accommodate you if they can. And as stated above, if you are willing to wait, that will also work in your favor.

It was my only request other than being away from the pool (too much noise for us). Both requests were granted. We were in the 70s section facing the court yard with a handicap accessible king room. We decided we didn't like this location much though because it was high traffic area and pretty noisy.

Second time we arrived on a Thusday. I requested a king facing the lake in either the sixties or fifties section. Neither request was granted, and we were placed in a standard room in the 70s section again. I politely asked if there were any standard rooms facing the lake. We were switch to a fourth floor room in the 50s facing the lake. It was seriously THE BEST location. Nice, quiet, peaceful, good views. I didn't even miss the king room I thought I wanted!

If you want to be successful with room requests:
1. Only request king room
2. If you must add additional requests like me, rank them in order and be flexible with CMs at check in.
3. Avoid arriving mid week when more travelers are mid trip and there are less rooms to pull from
4. Do normal check in. I've had to work with CMs a few times at check in to get some requests looked into. This wouldn't have been possible with online check in.

Thanks for the tips. King bed is our only request right now and I won't do online checkin. We are arriving on a Sunday so hopefully that will give us higher chances.

i'm 2 for 2 at getting king beds. when i made the request i stated i was too tall for double beds and needed a king.

And yet a request is still just a request, and if all the king bed rooms are occupied when someone who requested one checks in, even height won't make one magically appear.

It is definitely possible to work with the CM checking you in even if you do online check in. I've done it twice with no issues.

You can ask for rooms to be changed if you don't like what you get, even if you have done on line check in. However, it kind of takes away the benefit of on line check in for the people waiting behind you in line.
