Not so scary Halloween Party

Tell me about it please.
what attractions are usually open? the entire park?

We've been to Mickey's Christmas party years ago but don't remember too much.

We are usually yearly visitors to Disney World but have never attended this. We don't need to "see and do everything". If this is a 5 hour event, will it be worth it for us to only visit the MK for the party and not use a day on our park hopper this day?(I know this is subjective, but what I mean is are the crowds so low you can get maybe an average of a ride per 45 minutes to an hour if not less)

Most rides are open and most ride waits are short. This is because most guests concentrate on the party activities that they spent most of their money for.

The jungle cruise is always closed (there is a candy station down there). Tiki birds, country bears and Carousel of Progress are usually closed. Everything else is open. We love it so much, we plan our trip so we can attend at least 2 parties a year!

Historically the morning of the party is a good day to go to MK, as there are no classic wishes/night parade people don't usually attend MK that day.

Most rides are open for the party, and waits are short.

I would personally suggest doing most of the rides during the day, and meeting any specific characters that won't be out for the evening, but mainly rides.

With short wait times it can be fun to just do rides in the evening, but there's so much awesome and specially themed stuff at the parties that I definitely suggest checking out: parade, fireworks, castle stage show, and some of the rare/special character greets!

The Riverboat and Tom Sawyers Island are also closed..
Most people are there for the special party specific events ( the parade, fireworks, Trick or Treating , Villains mix and mingle etc).The rides have minimal waits, Except Peter Pan which always seems to have a wait.

We feel the parade is the best one Disney offers and the fireworks are fun with the Hallowishes narration. The rides are easy to get on, the HM is lit up with the holiday effects and you get to see the Headless Horseman ride again!

We love the Halloween party and hope to get back soon. Worth the extra cost in my opinion. Don't forget to line up early by Splash to meet all 7 dwarves. One of only a few opportunities throughout the year.

As others have said, I wouldn't use the party time to go on the rides. The rides aren't any different during the party (i.e., same as during the day). If you're going to spend the money to go to MNSSHP, I would certainly try to do as many party activities as possible. Boo-to-You and HalloWishes are among the best parades and fireworks show. The other shows and dance parties are fun, plus there is trick or treating. There are also opportunities to meet "rare" characters (e.g., the seven dwarves).

If you do want to ride then rides, then yes, the lines tend to be shorter. This doesn't mean that the most popular rides are walk-on, but they're manageable (except maybe Peter Pan and the thrill rides).

If I was going to do any one ride during the party it would be the HM. The CM's are in spooky makeup, they have the mansion all decked out in special effects, and either Madame Carlotta or Renata (ghost) is out on the lawn interacting with guests. It's such a treat! So don't miss it!

I wish I could get this point across to the kids! We've done 2 MNSSHP - 2008 and 2012. Both times, I explained that the party was for meet and greats, trick or treating, parade and fireworks. IF we had time, we'd ride a few rides. Well, they complain and whine and we end up riding rides most nights cause "we can trick or treat at home and the characters are just people anyway!". Well guess what, they aren't going this time! Mom and Dad are going by themselves! We WILL meet characters and trick or treat like a couple of kids

Agreed. And the special photopass shot there by hearst that will include ghosts when you get it.

We make sure to eat before the 7 pm party start so we don't lose valuable party time. A little before 7 the Columbia Harbor and Pinnochio's close, they are candy stations during the party.

Our kids are teens and as annual visitors character meets and photos do not really interest any of us anymore. To us it is a waste of time. Our main goal is to get as much of what we want to ride/see done in the shortest amount of time as possible. Trick or treat-no interest. But we would definitely catch parade and fireworks

Another point to mention is that they will start letting party guests in at 4pm, so you wouldn't have to wait until 7pm if you didn't want to use up a park entry on that day.

I have gone to many and DH will be going to his first this year, the only ride we will do since we will be there for the awesome photo op as others have said is HM That says Halloween !
