Back to the Med Greece/Turkey in 2013! Complete!

Your report is amazing and so helpful for us going on the next Greece cruise in 2 weeks! I've only read some of your report so far but it has so many details of things I'd have been curious about!

Couple questions- you mentioned your magnets curling and not sticking on the doors after a few days. This has never happened to me before on any of my cruises on any of the ships, but I'd be so upset if it did. I use the Staples magnet paper and print directly on them. I know some have had trouble just putting little magnetic pieces behind regular paper and those not sticking as well. Which type did you use?

Were there port-specific pins for sale in the stores or available for order? On the Panama cruise I did in 2011, there was a limited edition pin for each port that came out on that day. It was a nightmare. People would camp for hours outside the stores waiting to get them and many times still get there and they'd run out. In the end we managed to get them all but it was so stressful and so much wasted time. Was it like this on this cruise, or did they not have these coveted pins or similar gifts, or if they did was it handled better (like via a room order form?)

I used the Avery brand paper that I got at Office Max. Mindy bought her paper at Staples as well, I believe, and also used additional adhesive magnets on the back that didn't work. If anyone didn't have issues....sound off and tell us where you were located and how you printed your magnets!

There were no port-specific pins . They did them in 2007 and 2011, but skipped 2010 and apparently this year as well, save the Greece one. I was hoping to add to my collection....:confused3

Love it so far! Sounds like you had a great time. You have a lovely looking family.

Hope you can scan the Navigators :)

We are a pesty bunch aren't we???? Yes, I am anxiously awaiting your navigators as well. :flower3:

You mentioned it was cold on the crossing back to Barcelona. I wasn't bringing any warmer clothing (maybe a DCL packable windbreaker at most - or a sweater for the theatre where it tends to be cool) but no long pants. Think it will be warmer in 2 weeks???

Thanks so much!

Just a note about the last sea day when the seas were rocky and it was very cold and windy out on deck. I am not somebody who is prone to motion sickness unless I'm playing a 3D computer game from days of long ago. On the last sea day, the ship was rocking pretty good. I was out on deck during some part of the afternoon (in my fleece hoodie) watching the Funnelvision movie. I actually fell asleep out there. Fine as can be ... no issues.

BUT THEN ... I went on the Art of the Theme tour and then went to our stateroom (big Navigator's window) and started the process of packing. Big mistake. As soon as I went inside and spent about an hour inside, I started getting that clammy, cold, sweaty feeling ... the signs of impending DOOM. What we should have done was gone up on deck as soon as we felt this way ... but we kept on packing instead. Ugh... We wanted to see Dreams that evening (6:30 pm showing) so we thought we'd duck up on deck just before the show. But it was 6:15 when we headed to the show so we thought, let's just get a breath of fresh air outside on Deck 4 first. BIG mistake. There was some foul odour on Deck 4 ... very fishy, gross smell. It make me feel worse. So we gave up and just went to the Walt Disney Theatre. THANK Goodness for the excessive air conditioning in that theatre. As I sat in there, and fell asleep at one point (just for a few minutes), the air conditioning helped me immensely. By the the end of the show, I was feeling much better and revived.

When we headed to dinner, our head server asked us if we were ok (we were by then). Apparently many were not ok. Our assistant server suggested we have ginger ale. I think much ginger ale was served that night. The seas calmed down later that evening.

Hi, pxlbarrel!

We had the same experience. The last day at sea, before arrival at Barcelona was pretty bad.

Our DD gets very sea sick. This day, and the day before we arrived at Athens got to her bad.

I usuallly don't have any problems, but I had the same problem with the packing. I think it was trying to focus on something (folding clothes) while the ship was lurching and rolling so much that really made me woozy. I had to stop and step out onto the verandah periodically to settle down. :crazy2:

I didn't really need warmer clothing...I just stayed indoors that day! The rest of the days were lovely!!

More added to Villefranche and started on La Spezia. Pics will have to be added later...

Hi Kim! (and Mindy and Christine and Lisa and....) - what a wonderful two weeks we had. I've enjoyed reading your reports so far! Hope that all of you are doing well! How is Hayley's finger?

Hi Karen!!!

Mindy updated Haylee's condition on FB. I'll let her comment here on what is happening.....

Did you and Mike ever pursue the room issue??

Sorry have been a little behind on dis. Will scan schedule page of navigators and comment I. Next few days. Kim. How should I do that All your posts are at the beginning. Mine will be at end may not mesh. Any ideas?

Wow, you guys have finally done it, you have dragged me out of lurkdom! Seriously. I have followed your thread since almost the beginning. I truly enjoyed the John Hale course on Greece and Turkey from the Great Courses as recommended by Kim way back when. And finally, when you actually went on the cruise and weren't posting I went into withdrawal and started posting myself!

All that to say thank you for this thread and your report. We are heading off on the next Med cruise with Greece next week, and I am anxiously and happily reading your report.

Two questions based on a couple of comments you made today:

Where did you eat in the Piazza Navona area - we are doing jumping back into eternal Rome and I believe our lunch break is in that area, and

How did Jim's Fitbit work out for the trip? Or more specifically how did he upload the info each day? During our Spring break cruise I simply waited until we got back, but that was only about 9 days, whereas this trip will be closer to two weeks.

Sorry to be so wordy, but again, many thanks for your thread.

As for the fitbit. Jim has one of the newer fitbits and whenever we had wifi he uploaded thru the Bluetooth on the iPhone 5 It sinks automatically with the iPhone app.

The name of the restaurant was ristorante il botteghino.

Sorry that was the restaurant in Lucca. I need to look up the name on my cc. Will post later

Many thanks for the quick reply. Although I have a newer Fitbit as well, my phone is an iPhone 4 so sinking with my Fitbit seems to be hit and miss with it. Further, we are not planning on using my iPhone as a phone on this trip and I can't seem to find a Fitbit app for my iPad. Hmmm, maybe I shall have to convince DH that we need to upgrade to a new iPhone sooner than later :rotfl2:

We will also keep on the look out for that restaurant. Thanks

Wow...I was thinking you pulled that one out of your memory!! I never thought to look at the CC...

Mindy's fitbit was not well on this trip. It had us at something like 433 flights of stairs...not on a Pisa day...:scared1:

Pics added to Villefrance and La Spezia. Rome will have to wait until tomorrow....

Happy 4th, all!!pixiedust: (there's no firework icon so pixie dust will have to do!)

Just a note my friends are on the 7/27cruise and we have been in contact with them. Apparently they ran out of the Med pins. Don't have any info if they will get more.

Wow! The assistant manager of Mickey's Mates was on our excursion in Kusadasi and she said they get supplies in Barcelona. She told us that they always get asked, in the middle of the cruise, if they're getting more inventory .... but they don't ... until they get back to Barcelona. She said the funniest time she was asked was during the transatlantic crossing. :rotfl:

I hope they get more Med pins. But this is exactly why I bought my pins and my t-shirt the first day of the cruise. I've been cursed by them not having the size shirt I've wanted at the end of cruises. Not going to happen to me again. LOL
