Was the week following Memorial day more crowded this year ?

I have searched several posts and have gotten mixed opinions on how crowded was. Just wanted to know how crowded it was for anyone who was there the week following Memorial day this year ? Some say it was more crowded than in the past ? We may go next year arriving on Memorial day and stay that week. Would love to hear what anyone thinks of their stay during that week.

We plan our trips arriving in WDW the day after Memorial Day. We do this because the crowds are less. I didn't think this year was any different from previous trips

Hello!!!! We arrived the day before Memorial Day & stayed until June 2cnd. We were at MK on Memorial Day. This was our 1st WDW vacation so I have nothing to compare it to. I was very worried about crowds as well. Again, I have nothing to compare it to but this was my experience: Memorial Day MK~ myself (39), ds13,ds13,ds9. We were @ MK around 745 (for a 9am opening) we were at the beginning of the line. Around 830 ds9 says "oh mom look behind you!" It was a sea of never ending people. RD comes & we followed a map straight to Fronteir Land where we WALKED right onto BTMRR! Then we went to SPLASH around a 5min wait! Then we worked our way over to SPACE It was about a 10 min wait max. Then we went to a bunch of other things & did not have more than a 15 min wait. And I mean A BUNCH of rides. Then we got some dole whips around 11 (we waited in a 10 min line) we found an empty bench. After we continued around for other rides where the longest we waited was maybe 25 min. By 1:00 we had gotten onto all of our TO DO's (we did not hit fantasy land as this was not a big deal for my boys). By this point is when I noticed it to feel busy. We left for an ADR @ Floridian Cafe for lunch (which was not at all busy). We hung around the Floridian resort just walking around & sitting at a table outside for a bit talking. Then we hopped on the Monorail back to MK by 3:00. This is when I actually saw how busy it was. But, we went at our own pace. We already went on our big rides. I was never pushed or felt like there was too many people. My ds13 who is asthmatic & does not like crowds did not complain at all or ask to take A break. We went to CHH for dinner and found a nice table. Around 8 we walked onto Its a small world and a bunch of other rides in that area. We did not plan Wishes well so we did not get a great spot an that was PACKED!!!!!!!!!! After we went into some stores and got a hot dog at Casey's. we lingered well after wishes. We only had to wait maybe 15 min for our resort bus back. We did get a seat (twins gave theirs up for 2 little girls) I WOULD DEF GO AGAIN on MEM DAY!
For the rest of the week we went to the other parks as well as TL. I did not plan those as well so we did ended up waiting in lines and figuring out FP system. I never felt like there was too many people. In epcot We waited in almost a 2 hour line for soarin' but FP were out & we waited until 5 to do it. That was the longest line of the week for us. We got tables in QS restaurants & had an ADR every day. In DHS my w/the use of FP my boys road Rockin Roller coaster twice & Tower 3 times. We saw the 2cnd Fantasmic show so we did not have to wait in a line. We used FP for TSM.
Kali River Rapids was a 70 min wait (in AK) again I did not plan this park well and it was our last park day. It did not feel crowded but it was darn hot! We ate lunch at Restaurantasaurus & found plenty of tables (sometimes that's how I judge crowds). We had ADRs at Ohanas that night and I wanted to do some laundry, so we left after we did the headliners.
Our Resort: POR. We were upgraded to a RR pool view. The quiet pool was QUIET and empty the whole week & my boys like that over the main pool which was busy. They are swimmers and enjoyed the pool each night. The food court we ate in a few times and it wAs never packed (but we would grab something in an off hour)
Busses: we did use disney transport and never waited more than 15 min going and 20 min coming home. I always had a seat (I make my twin boys 13 stand for a girl) so they stood three times the whole week.
I'm planning to go in 2014 and would love to go this same week. But, because of my older boys I can't take them out. It took them too long this yr to catch them up. So we will have to go during the summer.
**** you will receive lots of feedback, different than mine. But, I vote yes! Go That week following Memorial Day! The weather was great (not too hot, a few hours of rain here and there 2 days) crowds for us was not an issue!
Have fun :)

We were there at the exact same time and same resort! I have to agree with everything she said. This is the week we always go and would definitely go at this time again!

We are DVC and visit Disney the last week of May and first week of June every year for the last 5 years. Yes, this year was much more crowded than we have ever seen at the same time period. The crowds were reminiscent of the crowds the 1st week of January this year when the MK closed to capacity. The parks were so crowded that we no longer will be visiting the same weeks next year.

Well were we arrived June 2 and stayed till JUne 15. The first few days were rainy and very crowded. We went mostly with the most recomended parks to go to for the stay, but the parks were very packed. The first couple huors were not too bad, but at some of the parks the headline rides all fastpasses went quick. One day at DHS Toy Story FP gone before noon. At 11 AM Rock and Roll and ToT had FP left but not till 6:30. It also seemded like a lot of rides kept breaking down. Test Track went down both days we were at Epcot, ond day for a couple hours the other time it was down for about 6 hours. But it seemd like more rides were down than normal, and it was much more crowded then normal:(. SO that is why we upgraded our tickets to AP and are heading back after Christmas (12/26) and staying for 2 weeks:yay: to avoid the crowds, I know the first week is busy that is why we are going to do other things there and not visit the parks till the crowds thin out and then hit the parks.
SO I am not sure if you were looking at the same time as we went, but just my observation.

Good luck.

Mike

Well we have always went during low crowd times so we only RDed once. But if we have to we can RD:thumbsup2 See what I mean by getting mixed opinions. Actually with school we can only go when school is out, which the 3rd week in May is the last week of school and it starts again the last week in August. So I was thinking of right after Memorial day or the 3rd week in August. I would rather go in May.

Oh Mary I know all about the mixed reactions and mixed feedback on here (and that's part of the reason I love the Dis) I took my boys the day before Memorial Day for 8 days. They ended up missing 4 school days & although my 9yr old was fine and still managed all As my middle school boys struggled a bit to get back on track. Therefore for 2014 we need to go in the dead of summer... YUCK!!!!! If you rather go in May I say do it! I know others have said its too busy and they have past yrs to compare it too. This as I said was our first time. My biggest thing was making RD on MK on Memorial Day. Being right in front. We had hardly a wait for the headliners. But, again our children might have different "must do's" Meeting the Princesses were no where on our list. We were there RD to Wishes w/a break at Floridian cafe. The weather was not an issue for us (not even a drizzle). The next day (tues) we used as a resort day so I didn't force my boys to get up. They got up on their own around 830. We swam, went pole fishing and at night the HDDR. Our next park was EPCOT and as I said we didn't do a good job planning that day (that's why we had a 2 hr soarin wait) but all a normal family would have to do is go for the fast pass early.
I won't bore you to death anymore than I did my first response so go with the time u are most excited about. August? Then go then (like us). Or May? Then go then (like we did) either way you will have a blast!!!!! :)

I think I will go for May :) We will go for RD and we always go straight to soarin when we get to epcot we ususally ride it because it's not busy but we can just get fast pass for it in May. Do you have any idea when the fast passes ran out for Soarin when you went ? Our school will be out of school Memorial day week so that will be good, I hate for her to miss school. We have taken her out the past few times we went and this past time she had a lot of makeup work :(. That makes it a bit stressful so I dont want to take her out anymore for Disney. Darn schools are messing up our vacation lol.

I'm not sure when. I do know we checked it out around 5pm & FP were gone. We had dinner & after dinner is when we stood in that long line.. My own fault for not planning better.

We were there that week and that resort too!! I concur that it wasn't too crowded, but not exactly empty either. We were well planned at MK (went on 5/29 and 6/1) and got everything done we wanted to fairly easily. The other parks, ADRs, DTD, etc were all great too! I definitely recommend this week.

Great another positive reply :thumbsup2 Thanks

Our previous two trips we have gone for the first two weeks of May and this year we arrived May 21st for 28 days. So I cant compare memorial week to years past but I can say that these weeks were way busier than our previous trips and got busier by the day.
We did get everything done (actually every ride, show etc) but we had 15 days in the parks + disney quest water parks and a whole bunch of other disney stuff....
