How do I get my activation code?

So I finally got my member ID# in the mail today :goodvibes but wanted to register to make reservations and check availability online. How do I get my activation code to register? I tried calling member services and they told me that I wouldn't be able to register online until my activation code came in the mail...Is this correct? Do I need to wait for something else to come in the mail to access reservations online?

Also, is my membership number the same as my Club ID?

TIA

To the best of my knowledge, they never send your activation code in the mail - you get that over the phone. All you need is your member number, and from that they can give you your club ID and activation code over the phone. Just call again; that CM was confused. Just say - I need help getting my online account set up. They'll ask for your member number and then walk you through entering your club ID number (different from your member number), and the activation code.

A club ID represents an owner or owners, and has one login. If you have two different contracts deeded to different people, you get two club IDs.

A member ID represents a particular owner and use year combination. If you have two deeds that are the same owner(s) but different use years, you get two member IDs, which are accessible from the same login (Club ID).

A contract ID represents a particular contract, with a specific home resort and points. If you have two contracts with the same owners and use years, they will show up together under the same member ID online.

If DVC wants to play games and not give you what you need to go online, I would start calling with my lists of questions. Have the MS CM check availability for you. Did you provide your SSN for the password?

Since this is my first dvc purchase, I didn't provide my SSN with my contract and paperwork (wasn't asked for it and didn't know it would be helpful to add). I did, however, try adding of a password to get access to my account early but was told by multiple CM's even after I added the password that without my membership number I wouldn't be able to make reservations.

Today, when I got my membership number in the mail, I called and asked to make a reservation. Once the CM checked multiple resorts and told me there was no availability I asked if she could help me set up my account online so I could spend more time looking for dates/resort availability on the website. She walked me through the process of setting up my online account but when we got to adding my Club ID and activation code, she asked if I had it. When I said I did not, she said I wouldn't be able to set it up until it came in the mail...:confused3

I am going to try calling tomorrow hopefully a different CM will be more helpful...

The "mail" thing was recently implemented IMO to further punish people for not buying direct. You are now seeing what the DVC and Disney is all about, making money. Causing delays and adding restrictions for resale buyers causes many to pay the direct prices because they don't want to deal with the delays and road blocks. Remember Disney doesn't make money on resales, only on direct purchasers. Direct buyers don't have to wait for a mailed code.

We just added on direct and the points were loaded in one day and I made a reservation on day 2.

Well, quite frankly, it is a little too late for me to buy direct...I don't see how it benefits Disney to give me a hard time now, after I already made my resale purchase...it will only cost Disney more money and time because I will be constantly calling to find out availability and make reservations until I get the info needed to check online. Thanks for the info though. Tomorrow I will try again.

Thanks for the info. :thumbsup2

To be clear, I'm not suggesting that you buy direct, you are smart to save some money buying resale. Our last contract was a direct buy because we wanted a VGF fixed week.

The benefit to Disney to delay you is that thousands can read your post and if one person decides to buy direct because of it, Disney wins.

It doesn't cost Disney money when you call MS, every aspect of running the DVC including MS, mailing things to you, and I just found out that the mingles and parties are paid for by the DVC owners.

Hmmmm....food for thought. Well, given that I paid less than half of what I would have if I had bought direct for my contract, I think I can wait two weeks and put up with calling MS to make reservations until I get whatever I need in the mail. :goodvibes

Call back and talk to another CM about setting up your online account. As far as previous reports go, people had to wait for their membership number in the mail (which you did) and then you should be able to call and set up your online account.

Today, when I got my membership number in the mail, I called and asked to make a reservation. Once the CM checked multiple resorts and told me there was no availability I asked if she could help me set up my account online so I could spend more time looking for dates/resort availability on the website. You had a confused CM. To access your account, you need ONE of the following non-public pieces of information:

- Member ID #
- Club ID #
- SSN

OR if you have a password on the account, you need that. If the account has a password and you don't know it, they can't help you even if you have your SSN, Member ID, Club ID, and a note from your doctor. :) If you do have your password, they don't need any of the other three, but they might ask you for them as a cross check.

Even if you have one of the non-public info like your member ID, they will still ask for your address, phone, etc. as a cross check.

But once you are "in" so to speak, you can get your club ID or member ID, or activation code for your account. They'll never give out your password.

At no point, as far as I know, have they sent me my club ID or an activation code in the mail. They've sent my member ID, they sent me a glossy guide with point costs in it, but none of the mailings included my club ID. Maybe I just didn't notice, because at that point I had my account set up already, but I don't think so.

So I finally got my member ID# in the mail today :goodvibes but wanted to register to make reservations and check availability online. How do I get my activation code to register? Also, is my membership number the same as my Club ID?

TIA

The Membership number is assigned to the overall membership. The Club ID is assigned to individuals on the membership (including associate members). Each person will have a unique Club ID (suffix will be different .x). The Club ID is generally only needed to establish access to DVCMember.com.

Call back and select 1 then 6 for website technical support. They can assist you connected to DVCMember.com.

Called and got the info today and signed on to make my first reservation :thumbsup2. Seems the first CM I spoke with was confused.
