Designed a Craft Room - Now What Crafts To Make?

We just finished re-designing a spare bedroom into a craft room. I have a small desk area, 9 cube drawer book/craft supplies case, an iron board. I will need to buy supplies. I did purchase a label maker because my first project is to label a photo album (pictures so I will remember what they are).

My questions are:

1. What supplies should I purchase as general must have supplies?

2. What crafts to make? Not an artsy person at all.

3. Are there other organizer things I should have? I will also move my sewing repair stuff into the mix.

4. Is making bead jewlery hard or expensive?

5. What are the "in" crafts right now?

As someone who has way more crafting supplies than any one person should have I will explain the secret of how I did it. First find a project. Buy the supplies. Make the item. You will have a few supplies left over to store. Repeat over and over again over a number of years. Eventually you will have more craft supplies than your little room can contain.

Bead jewelry is fun and easy. I bought a great ebook off ebay that tells you how. You can also get good ebook a on youcanmakethis.com.
It can be expensive as you let it get. There are people who get sucked right in and start using precious and semi precious stones. That can be pricy.

Beading can be pricey, or it can be inexpensive. I taught my Girl Scouts some basic jewlery techniques, they had fun and it wasn't too pricey. Mostly they made earrings and charms for their backpacks/cell phones. Micheals has some into classes and with sales/coupons the supplies can be inexpensive. If you want "real" gemstones, silver fasteners, etc the price goes up.

I do papercrafts (love my Cricuts), some sewing and handwork. I had Dh install some pegboard. I bought shelves/baskets/hooks from Staples that I can re-arrange. Lots of stuff hanging on the walls.

Ooohh, pegboard is a good idea! I love stuff hanging.

Quilting. Based on other things you've said, you already have a sewing machine. Take a class and get started. If the bug bites you, before long your studio (we quilters aren't using a 'craft room' these days, we use a 'studio') will be overflowing with projects and fabric and you'll need to take over an extra room in your house (one for the stash storage, and one for actually sewing in!).

I have a craft room/office (half is office, half is craft room - no overlaps).

I like to make cards, wrap creatively, paint, scrapbook, etc.

I have loads and loads of supplies, such as:

Paint (spray, good acrylic, cheap acrylic, watercolors)
Paint brushes and pallets
Decorative paper
Gel pens
Stickers
Die cuts
Stencils
Laminater
Paper cutter
Various scissors
Various glues and tapes
Brads and eyelets
Paper punches
Grommet tools
Wreath forms
Ribbons
Glitter
Washi tape
Fabric


That's off the top of my head. There's tons. Go to Hobby Lobby and see what strikes your fancy

SO very true!!! The walk in closet in the guest room is my "craft closet" and it's bursting at the seams!!!

OP - I would also suggest going to a local knitting store. There are 2 here in my area that I can think of off the top of my head that are terrific resources. And no matter the time of day you stop by (when they are open!), there's someone there hanging out working on a project. One of them also holds a "sip and stitch" night at a local winery once a month. In addition to the owner/purveyor of the shop, other patrons are also wonderful resources for learning a new craft, method, or pattern.

I taught myself how to both crochet and knit with books/ pamphlets and youtube videos. When I needed help following a pattern or didn't understand something, I brought my project to the local yarn shop and the ladies there helped me out and taught me what I needed to know. I love doing both these crafts because they can be very nice gifts - hats, blankets, etc.

OP, I scrapbook, sew, crochet, machine embroider and do photo editing in my craft room. It was my daughter's downstairs bedroom. We're in the process of adding upper cabinets and better lighting. It's really nice to have a dedicated space.
