Why did they make AOA a Value resort???

I just priced out a stay in Oct...using weekend nights. It came to $342 for AoA and $292 for ASMusic. Not a huge difference...just $50. For that $50 I would be staying at AoA, in a heartbeat. I stayed at both last month....couldn't wait to get out of Music and over to AoA. Granted, I was in a regular room, not a suite. But I have to tell you...AoA feels vastly different than Music!!! The theming is so much better, the pools are better (all of them, not just the main pool), the whole setup is worth the addtl $50 a night...at least for me.

A value resort is considered a value because there are no pool slides, no table service restaurants available, no hot tubs, beds are smaller. So sure, AoA is more expensive than the other 'values' but you are getting more for your money. But not enough to move it up to a moderate level..they have pool slides, table service restaurants, and hot tubs!!!

Art of Animation is new, and it is in demand. The suites offer some good things for larger families that don't want 2 rooms. People are filling the resort, and it seems like a step up from the All Stars... but not that much more expensive.

I think they should really stop calling it a value resort. They should just call it a family suite resort. It's really bait and switch. That's why they put the LM rooms in. They are priced somewhat under the value category, although never discounted from the (rather high creeping up) price of values. The suites are expensive. If they are charging such a price for the suites, they really should add some higher end amenities such as pool slides, water sports, sit down restaurants....etc.

We stayed at a Cars suite to "save" money before switching to the Poly- did the math, it was more a night than we usually spend at POR. Wish they would start discounting those LM rooms!

As many have already said, the building was already there as the ghost town of Pop Century the early years. For years it sat there with weeds growing around it so I'm sure they wanted to use he structure they had already built. There's really no way they could have made it a deluxe resort with the existing layout. Exterior hallways, no balconies, all spread out over a huge area, etc, etc, they would have had to tear it down and start over to make a deluxe resort. It was much easier to take two value rooms and make them into suites, which they knew would work because they had already done it at All Star. As for the pricing of the suites I'm sure in time they might offer more discounts, once the excitement wears off. But for now if Disney can get top dollar from larger families who need the space then they are going to keep doing that. Supply and demand, etc.

When we stayed at AoA in January, CMs seemed to be calling the resort a value plus. I suppose this makes sense seeing as most of the rooms aren't value style, and the price of the LM rooms is a little higher than the other values.

Standard rooms vs. suites is what I suppose I meant.

Though some of the other values have suites too (music, right?), AoA is comprised of three sections of suites, and only one of standard rooms.

Rumor (or fact?) is that they will be adding one as the resort goes through an update/refurbishment over the next year or so.

To make it affordable to all families. Not every large family can afford to stay in a deluxe resort. Why should lower income families be penalizes because they can't afford $300 a night.

My sister and her family are going July 24 to Aug 6th. They are paying about $200 a night for a room in AOA for 6 people. Not sure were people are getting $400 a night.

Value Plus seems to be a good name when comparing it to other value resorts. To me, it's similar to AKL and WL which seem to fall in between the price ranges of moderates and deluxes. I usually consider those two to be moderate-plus or deluxe-minus resorts.

I think the prices are comparable to the family suites at All Star Music - at least that is why I thought they called it a value resort - it was similar to what they were offering at All Star Music for families just more of them.

I guess compared to a deluxe 1 bedroom villa it is closer to half the price but without the full kitchen - only a kitchenette.
