wonder dry dock 2015

Can anyone confirm that they have indeed postponed the Wonder 2015 referb?

The Wonder dry dock was originally speculated to be in Oct 2014. I haven't seen anyone say it will be in 2015.

The only thing I've read is that the originally speculated 2014 long (6 week)dry dock might actually wind up being a regular 2 week dry dock.

The Wonder was last in dry dock Oct 2011, so she would be due for some sort of "check-up" by Oct 2014.

If it helps no one was talking about dry dock on our last two week cruise. Jimmy the cruise director, our head server, the cruise staff all shook their heads and said they didn't have any news on the subject when we inquired.

Anything we say is speculation at this point. We have no idea what Disney is planning, mainly because I think maybe THEY haven't made any decisions yet.

It does seem likely that they will wait to do a complete overhaul because the Canal is nowhere near done. (Now that I've seen it in person I would be SHOCKED if it is done in the next 2+ years.)

Disney has not publically confirmed anything. All we can do is speculate. Best to wait and see an official confirmation.

The wonders dry dock was supposed to be in the fall of 2014. However with the Panama Canal expansion being delayed that also caused the wonders dry dock to be delayed. Instead of the intensive 6 week dry dock the magic is receiving the wonder will just do a mandatory 2 week dry dock to do general refurbishment but nothing like the magic. Once the Panama Canal expansion is complete look for the wonder to be scheduled for a Linder dry dock as well.

All we can do for now is guess!

She does HAVE TO GO INTO DRY DOCK IN OCT 2013, in order to renew some certificates.

The big question is the refit and the duck tail. There are some options for her.

Wait until 2015/16, when the new PC locks are finished and then get the refit and duck tail

Go ahead and do the full refit in Oct 2013 (DCL can ask for a waver to hold off on the duck tail until 2015.

DCL could also ask for a special permit to go in the PC old locks, which she could just barely fit with the Duck tail.

So the bottom line is, we wait until they tell us their plans!:confused3

Don't you mean Oct 2014? The Magic will be refurbed this year.

This was casual conversation with our head server last week:

Me: You know, for the Alaska itinerary they could really use some black-out curtains since we only get five hours of actual darkness in the north.

HS: Well, when they built the Wonder, they had no intention to take her to Alaska. This itinerary was added de to great customer demand.

Me: But isn't she heading into dry dock soon? They could do it then.

HS: That's TWO years away.

Idle dining room chatter, but more fodder for speculation!

DCL will announce the dry dock when they want to. At that time they will notify the guests on the cruises during that time. They aren't in any hurry to do that, just have they never have been in the past. It would make sense for them to schedule this before the dates are ever released since they know when they are required to have a dry dock; however, DCL chooses not to do that.

Oh boy! Good insider information.

Assuming it's true. The crew means well, but they sure pass on a bunch of unfounded rumors, as do the WDW bus drivers. (that's a real joke around here.)

The major refurb will probably happen after the new Panama Canal locks are finished, which is supposedly April 2015 but it's looking more like 2017. The Wonder is required by maritime law to have some work done by fall 2014. The question is how soon they'll go ahead and do a major refurb like the Magic will have this fall.

Hi Paula - yes we heard the same thing although it was from a person who works on their software systems and he travels around the world and also works on the ships. He was actually on the first leg of our flight home leaving Vancouver yesterday and two ladies had been on our same cruise and were chatting with him. He also said it was about 2 years out and gave no indication it would be any sooner. I know it's all just "chatter" but we did hear the same :)

Thanks guys. I finally convinced my whole extended family to an Alaskan cruise in 2015. This will be the last chance for us all to have one more hurrah. I am therefore willing an Alaskan cruise. :)

If DCL doesn't do Alaska in 2015 (and i'll bet they will) there are other cruise lines that sail there.

Yep, that's why they pay him the big bucks.
