November 6, 2013 - Magic from Miami

Good for you! It sounds like it will be a great time. We keep saying we want to go, but always end up at the world. You will have to let us know how it is.

We just spent a week at WDW and I am ready to go home and am looking forward to relaxing on the cruise.

How was your trip? Where did you stay? Tell me everything...haha!!!! I feel like I'm in withdrawal for WDW.... I'm very excited about going to california, but sad about missing Florida. Isn't that twisted????? I more than a bit spoiled.....

"Now for something completely different...has anyone been to Disneyland???? I believe we are going to go in August. We have a trip planned to Vero and WDW then, but it looks like I finally convinced DH to try Cal. instead. Anyone??? I was there once in 2001, so obviously it's been awhile... We will be staying at the Paradise Pier Hotel so that we can use our Dvc points."

DLR is like our second home; we have been AP holders for the past few years and our main DVC membership is at Grand Cali (love!). We go as frequently as possible and were last there in February but have been averaging about 5 trips per year (and we live in Canada, so this is no small feat).

We have never been to WDW so I can't give you any sense of comparison. You will most likely find DLR very small - we love it because we know it very well. Good friends of ours (also from Canada, also AP holders at DLR) went to WDW for the first time in January. They enjoyed their stay, but their observation was everything takes so much longer in WDW because it's busier, and it's bigger, so it takes a long time to get around to everything, even just transporting from the hotel to the parks each day.

We have stayed at PP and was lovely; it's not DVC resort quality (e.g., BIG difference from there to Grand Cali villas), but we were treated very nicely. We stayed there because we wanted to use DVC points and could not get in at GC. We ate at the restaurant off the lobby (can't recall, but I think it is Goofy's Kitchen) and had decent food for a reasonable price (burgers) and nice service - can't complain.

Do take a wander through the GC - it is a beautiful property and it is a serene place to walk around after all the chaos in the parks. And if you have any DLR questions, please ask away!

I so wanted to stay at GC, but I just couldn't get a room. I have tried several times over the past two years. I know that we will be fine in the other. Tanks for all of the great advice!!!!

My sons asked if grandmom and grandpop could go on the cruise with us. Well, their wish is granted....Not sure who is more excited about the trip, the boys or my dad. Deck 6 will be busy!

That's ok, as we above you on 7! Haha!!! That's awesome. Good for you guys. My kids don't get a lot of time with their grandparents sadly.

Have not been to Disneyland. In that same boat about thinking about going, but the flights are typically a problem from NJ. ENJOY!!

It does stink!!! The odd thing is that it was only $250 for the four of us to fly to LAX than MCO. Like I said, this is something we have looked at for awhile now. I think that at 9 and 11, the kids are now old enough to really remember this trip.

Hello everyone. It has been awhile since I read posts so there was some catching up to do. My family went to Disneyland last march and had so much fun. I really liked the feeling that it was the original. Oddly enough it was warmer during spring break in iowa than it was in California when we were there. I would go back in a heart beat. We did a disney cruise from there

Anyone interested in a fish extender group? I am not sure that it has been talked about at all.

I was wondering if someone would bring this up....I have never done one and am so not crafty.... What does everyone think????

Hi Omalley,

I've been over on the Alaska board, so I haven't checked this one. I've been to Disneyland several times. Honestly - for me (others may feel different), if you are going JUST for Disney FLA is tons better, but if you are planning to go to LA, and other places as well as Disneyland, then go for it.

You can't go wrong at any Disney park!

We LOVE Wdw, but we wanted to do California to do something a bit different. We are using the Southern California City Pass. So, we will also be going to Universal and Sea World. I'm looking for some fun things to do with the kids in LA for a day as well.

Happy Summer!!! How is everyone??? Here in NJ, we are having bizarre weather with lots of rain and humidity. The kids are finally out of school and raring to go. The have different sports camps they are doing this summer. We are looking forward to disneyland in August!! I love Summer, and everyday is an adventure. I have a bunch of day trips planned for the kids and I!!

So what is everyone up to???

The weather in NJ this year has been awful! Feel like I am in Florida without Disney World to keep me smiling!

We might actually see the sun in the next few days!!! Finally!!! Yesterday, I started online classes to get my BSN. I already want to kill myself...there is so much work, I feel as though I am drowning. I really need that cruise!!!

Hope everyone is doing well! This summer has been crazy busy and yes, the weather has been very wet here in IL. It's also been cooler than normal. We will be lucky as the 4th appears to be sunny and rain free.

Omalley - good luck on your classes!!

We had a week or so of bad storms nightly but this week has been cool and beautiful. I am working summer school and lovin it. Why do I teach summer school when I could be off? Only people that hang out here would understand. Summer school funds our trip in November. Also. I really enjoy teach this group of students so it is fun. Happy summer

just a note to let you know how much it helped seeing you guys were going solo on your trip. We had hoped to travel on 11/6, but don't know that we can come up with anyone to watch the kids... might have better luck backing it up to the 11/22 trip. We finished a 7 day with the kids, but I felt like all I did was kid patrol since the youngest wasn't potty trained and the nursery charges by the hour and the next up was too young for the excursions my husband and oldest daughter wanted to participate in. I barely ate as the younger two weren't very cooperative with elegant seating arrangements at dinner and never saw the first show or movie. We renewed our vows on the ship but other than that... nothing was really very relaxing or adult centered... so we decided before we even disembarked that we were entitled to a "2nd honeymoon" to go along with the vow renewal and that meant no kids... so we could enjoy a room with a veranda and drink a glass of wine and see whatever we wanted and eat without anxiety/stress... thanks for allowing me to feel like I am not a terrible mother to want to go on a Disney cruise without our kids (we have done another cruise line for our honeymoon... RC, but after two Disney cruises are not interested in going anywhere else)pirate:

Thank you! We try to make it a priority to do one vacation alone every year. We both have stressful jobs so we need the time to unwind and focus on us. We did the Dream last year on our own and we booked the Magic to go to Key West, it is an added bonus that it will now be redone.

I hope you get someone to watch the kids for either date, but hoping you get to go on the 6th :).
