Does Anyone have info or tips regarding sailing out of Venice. We leave July 2014 one of the first DCL cruises to leave out of there so I can't really find anything...any info/tips would be great!

We didn't sail out of Venice on DCL, but that is the most beautiful place to sail away from that you may ever see. You cruise right thru the channel and the scenery is amazing. We stayed several days in Venice before our cruise. It is very easy to get around if you do some homework. I think 2-3 (maybe 4) days would give you ample opportunity to see everything there. Great walking city. I would recommend getting the St. Mark's reservations ahead of time if you can still do that. We had our tickets in hand and walked right by a very long line of folks waiting to get in. Beautiful city, best sail away ever. Have fun.

Thanks for the info!

We spent a week there for out honeymoon in 2001. Stayed at the Hotel Metropole and it was a nice mid-range hotel and I would stay there again! http://metropole.hotelinvenice.com/overview.html Water taxi from airport took us right to the the hotel platform and we walked right in.

We had next to no game plan other than walking in a different direction and getting lost for the day and seeing what we could discover. It was relaxing and lovely and some of the best food you will find. Hemingway's 'Harry's Bar is there. We ate two dinners and one snack (coffee and dessert for he/original Bellini and dessert for she). It is one of my two favorite restaurants in the world. There are 3-4 Cipriani-owned restaurants in NYC and they are good, they are not Harry's Bar. http://www.cipriani.com/locations/venice/restaurants/harrys-bar.php

St. Mark's, Campanile, Doge's Palace, the rest of the usual suspects are wonderful. Walking and not worrying about cars - priceless. The vaporetto rides out to the islands are nice, be wary of hawkers attempting to get you to Murano. They want you to buy and it is spendy. Go, but on public transport w/o the sales pitch pressure. Missing Murano is like missing Waterford or Steuben -- world class glass.

Have fun and enjoy this beautiful place. :)

What do you want to know? . . .

Good hotel per for pre cruise and not to miss places in the city. . .
We love Venice, and have been there twice, staying three nights each time. We sailed into Venice last week on another cruise line.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Locanda Orseolo near St Mark's Square. It's a charming place with the nicest staff. It gets high marks on TripAdvisor.

Be sure to visit St. Mark's Basilica and go on a guided tour of the Doge's Palace.

We stayed at the hotel Olympia which was part of the best western chain but nothing like the chain hotels here. Very Italian. And right on a canal. Perfect location. And actually quite close to the pier. Don't know if its still the same hotel or not but we were very pleased. Moderately priced compared to others.

I was just going to post about Locanda Orseolo! Stayed there in 2007 and fell in love with the hotel and the family that runs it!

Check out the Secret Itineraries Tour at the Doge's Palace....You get to go places that the regular tours don't go including seeing the suspended painted canvas ceiling and how the building is built like a ship as well as all the Casanova lore.

Cannot wait to go back to Venice in the future.

BTW, there is a Disney store in Venice.
