While I LOVE desserts..I sometimes want an appetizer. Will they let me switch on the DDP? It's just the reg. one 1 QS, 1TS, and a snack.

You cannot substitute an appetizer for dessert on the DDP but you can pay OOP for the appetizer and either skip the dessert or get it "to go".

One of the hard and fast rules of the dining plan is that you cannot sub an appetizer for a dessert. You will have to pay for the appetizer OOP.

At some of the Disney owned restaurants you might be able to get the cheese plate for dessert.

Thanks to all! Last (and only time) we did the DDP was the first year it came out, I believe. Back then you could do a dessert or appetizer but it has changed so much since then. I'm glad to now know ahead of time. Thanks!

Back then you got an appetizer and dessert, tip was included, and it had value for all. Now there is limited value, and only for some.

Unfortunately no. This is one of the reasons we have decided to pay OOP this trip. Our last 2 trips we did the DxDP so we could have an App and Dessert if we wanted but the DxDP is just too much food and too expensive now.

I wish they would let you do this. I like dessert every once and a while, but every day with every meal is too much for me! We only get the dinning plan when they offer it for free so we don't mind paying for an app here or there.

Nope. Welcome to one of the pitfalls of he Dining Plan
Condition, not pitfall. Any Dining Plan is an option, not a requirement. Guests concerned about or not in agreement with the conditions have the freedom to not add a Dining Plan to their reservation.

I like the dining plan and continue to buy it, but agree it would be great if you could choose either appetizer or dessert.

It would cost Disney more money if they did. Desserts such as they offer are pretty easy to whip out and cheap to produce. Appetizers cost a bit more and are usually more labor intensive.

I think I could probably live with it costing Disney more money. :rotfl2: I think the price of the dining plan is more than sufficient to cover the difference in cost to them. But as I said I like the dining plan, so I am not complaining, just stating my preference.

Yeah, that's hilarious. Additional cost to the provider would be passed on to the end user.

The other reason the appetizer isn't included with the basic dining plan and there isn't a choice of courses is table turnover time.
