(CLOSED) Disney's WILDERNESS LODGE and VILLAS INFORMATION THREAD ~2013~

We checked in this morning around 10 am. Not only was our room ready, but we found out we were upgraded to a woods view bunk bed room. We had reserved a standard view through a promotion from our TA, with hopes of getting a bunk bed room. (The WDW website is deceving, it appears that some standard rooms have bunk beds, but after some info on here that doesn't appear to be the case.)

So anyway, the room is nice. There are 2 deer right outside our balcony right now eating. We ate at Whispering Canyon for lunch today. It was okay, but we won't eat there again.

Taking a rest after some pool time and will be heading to the MK today.

Thanks everyone for all the great info on this thread!

Congratulations on being at the lodge, and the nice room upgrade! I suspect that's the way to get bunkbeds when booking Standard View, request them and hope for an upgrade. It is so neat that you can see deer from your room.

Enjoy your trip and keep us updated. :thumbsup2

Congrats on the upgrade. Hope you are enjoying the lodge......it's a beautiful place to be :goodvibes.

That might look more like this:

Too cute, even with the crying and all!

Back from vacation and of course, I am way behind on all my favorite threads:flower3:. Thanks to all who faithfully answered questions and kept the thread off page two:surfweb:

I'll be back to multi-quote later, but had to post that 6 weeks from today we'll be pulling up to our favorite Lodge, (in the front of course, not the back, unless I arrive via Sea Raycer, which would be odd since we're not doing a split stay this time).

Hard to fit luggage in a Sea Raycer

Love the WL and your thread
Welcome home!

Thanks for the kind comment and welcome, Dave and welcome back to the thread to you, too! I have to ask how you would know the luggage won't fit:scratchin. Maybe I could pull the luggage in its own Sea Raycer? Well, no worries this trip since we'll make our approach on dry land.

I just posted this comment to the Resort Changers' thread (befitting, I know) and thought it would be appropriate here, too:

We're very lucky that if available, we could stay at any CL, but we keep going back to OFC because overall, it's the best WDW CL and the best value, IMHO. We also love the theming, location, amenities such as the gym and the transportation, (and of course, the CMs!). Our BLV Tower room without CL was the same price as the WL-CL room we switched to. While the room is smaller, the lounge area is larger and we end up spending a lot of time in the lounge area. It's a great place to leave DH when he needs to, umm, rest;)

Here is something my wife made for our daughter for our upcoming trip. We promised Kook we would share pictures of it here:

That is just too cute!!! And your daughter is adorable :goodvibes.

My DH and I did a little resort exploring when we were there in February. While exploring the fourth floor we looked up and there on the club level floor was a gentleman with his newspaper and cup of coffee, with a great view of the atrium, looking like he was settled in for the next few hours. It looked like something out of a mountain resort, not the middle of WDW. What a great location for club level. I can see your DH sitting there, too. :goodvibes

We returned from our trip late Monday night and just wanted to post a quick report (I definitely did not take enough pics of the Lodge or our food... spent most of the time chasing after our 2.5 year old!)

The 1 br villa was great and I'm glad we reserved it. There was plenty of space for our son to set up toys and just relax. He did get homesick for his toys, and downtime in the hotel usually ended with him asking to go home, but as soon as he was out (or busy with something we bought him at the shop) he was just fine. On our last day I told him we were going home and he said "no home!"

Mousekeeping forgot to come for 2 days, but we were find without it and just requested a few towels. Maybe they got us confused with DVC members?

Our son loved all the train decor in the Villa lobby. He calls WL the "train hotel" now. He also just loved riding the boats!

Meals were just okay in terms of food, but we didn't go to all our usual places. The worst was probably Tony's Town Sq and the best was Coral Reef. We didn't get to try WCC, but we will next time. DS LOVED the character meals, so next time we will do more of them as well.

Lodge staff was as friendly as could be, and we already miss it! We're planning our next trip when this baby brother (who won't be born until Sept) is about to turn three... June, 2016! DS wants to stay in the "train hotel" again, but DH thinks he'd also like a few days at the Beach Club pools, so we're thinking about a split stay 3 BCV and 4 VWL or WL club level (although the packing up part just sounds awful to me!).

Thanks to everyone for all the help in planning this trip... can't wait for our next one!

Thanks for your review......glad you had a nice trip. That is too cute about the "train hotel" and your little guy not wanting to go home at the end of the trip :goodvibes.

Thanks for the trip report. I'm so glad to hear that your trip went well. I love the extra space in a villa. :)

We also had a great meal at Coral Reef. My daughter plans to go there again with her kids. :goodvibes

Salute, Kook!! :drinking:
That drink is just a distant memory now:sad1:

WDWKOOK. thank you so much for changing it. Love this thread and love WL!

Laura
You're welcome and ITA!

Yes, I'm about to take the resort changer plunge! This is good advice; never realized you could walk over to FW....and no surcharge at RF! Thanks so much!
Have you officially changed yet? It's also very easy to go over to the CR to eat at the CC, Wave or CM via the Blue Flag boat or monorail right over to Poly or GF for a meal or snack.

We are just 10 days from our arrival at WL OFC! My kids enjoy mini-golf, and I was thinking about maybe going for a round on our non-park day. So, I've got a couple of questions.....

1. Has anyone golfed at Fantasia Gardens? If so, did you like it? My kids are 9 and 5. Would it be age appropriate for them?

2. How can I get from WL to Fantasia Gardens using Disney transportation? How long of a trip is it?

Thanks!

I hope you'll be able to check-in with us when you're on vacation:goodvibes

To get to FANTASIA GARDENS, buses are available at any park or from Downtown Disney, but only by boarding the bus to the Swan/Dolphin (or any BoardWalk area resort). From there, you can take the walkway from the Swan/Dolphin right to Fantasia Gardens.

Was just looking at my comformation e-mail and it says
WILDERNESS LODGE B8J/MAGIC YOUR WAY DINE .. what does the B8J stand for?
Only a guess here, but Disney uses booking codes for room types and packages. Perhaps your booking code may be for your MYWD package:confused3

I was searching for this thread and could not find it at all. Had to go to the 2 page and there it was. No way should this thread be on the second page so it is now back where it should be on the first page.

:worship:

The only category in which bunk beds can be requested is a standard CL room as bunk beds are not a bookable category in CL. Otherwise, as the pp stated, bunk beds are a bookable category (woods view or courtyard view).
I was always under the impression that bunk beds were also available by request-only with a STD Room View booking:confused:. Hopefully, someone will post to let us know if they were ever in a STD View room with bunk bedspopcorn::

Hi all! It's been awhile since I posted and there are some disappointing developments to report. Some of you may remember that I had to postpone last summer's trip because of my back. Well, we have to postpone this summer's trip as well. Luckily it is not my back this time. It is actually for a good reason- my DD is in the process of getting a teaching job and she has one last class to take and it conflicts with our dates. We can't go later either because she would need to be back here for a week-long training for new hires. So, I am thrilled for her, but sadly have to delay our first time in a villa. WDWKook- please remove me from the lodgers log for this August. You can put August 2014, since that is our plan! That way I can still see a trip in our future. My husband sees it as an opportunity for my back and my endurance for walking to be that much stronger than it is now. I intend to keep checking in here and surrounding myself with love for the WL! Please keep posting pictures and mini-trip reports so I can live vicariously until it is our turn.
Oh, no I'm sorry you had to cancel, but I'm happy it's not because of your back:hug:. I will change you to 2014, but reluctantly. This may be a blessing in disguise though and your DH may be right that this will allow you to get stronger. Don't be a stranger here, OK?

Thanks for the info. It stinks that the website is wrong. I would have just booked one of the BB rooms, but we got a deal with a TA and the only rooms on the deal were standard view. I think I will ask at check in if a BB room is available and what the cost is to change. It isn't a catastrophe if we don't get a BB room, but I would prefer not to share a bed with my DD. She is a bed hog! We check in on Wednesday!

Amy
Please let us know if you find out at check-in that BBs rooms do exist within the STD View.

We arrived Saturday at 11:00 am. Our room was ready. Inner Courtyard on the 5th floor, just as requested. Very comfortable, love the boat transportation for Magic Kingdom.
That's terrific! So glad your requests were met. Have a great vacation:)

Down to one week before our trip! :yay:

It's hard to believe that we've spent more than a year doing research and planning. You all on this board have proven to be such a valuable resource to us! Thank you!
Will you be able to post on vacation? We'd love to hear what you think of WL. Have a wonderful vacation!

:wave2: So excited to be staying at WL for the first time in January! Quick question - is there a self serve cappuccino machine in Roaring Fork? If so, can we use the refillable mugs with that, or is it a separate purchase? Thanks!
This is the refillable mug coffee machine at RF. CL does have a Nescafe specialty coffee machine, but not RF.

Say, that's the face I usually make when it is time to leave WDW and go home.
:rotfl:
But, if I had that dress, I'd be all smiles. (But, my teenage DD would be even more embarrassed than usual.)

I don't remember there being a cappuccino machine at Roaring Fork. I know there is coffee and hot chocolate that are available for the mug refills, but I don't recall cappuccino. Anybody else?

No page 2 for this thread, I had to reply!
You're correct and thank you for the gratuitous bump.

For those who are interested below is a link to the start of my trip freport while staying at honeymoon room 7085 with club level at WL from 6/3-6/10 on our honeymoon. Also, an someone help tell me how to upload images. I tried using the insert image icon and copied in the url of the pictures I uploaded on FlickR but pictures not loading.

Did you figure out the IMG code?

We are all sitting in our living room and out of the blue DH asks, "Can you find out what kind if Cobbler they are serving these days?"

Anyone have recent reports??

Thanks!!!!
Great question and my DH was asking me the same thingpopcorn::

I think I might have convinced Hubby we "need" a Club level room @ Wilderness Lodge. Although he still thinks a week vacation staying here is too much BUT I'm paying for it all myself so he cannot complain ;) Plus he said it was the #1 hotel he wants to stay at plus he's NEVER stayed on WDW property before! My mom got us a HUGE coin saver bottle Va Tech for hubby's bday so we put our loose change in it everyday. I have most of the $$ already but we gotta eat too LOL & do Keys of kingdom tour right?

What kind of view do you get in these club level rooms. Are there pictures anywhere out there??? I think I sold him on the club level beer/wine/bfast/snacks LOL
CL speaks for itself and your DH won't think one week is too long at the OFC. There are two possible CL views:

~Woods overlook VWL in the South Wing. In the North Wing you can see some of the Otter Pond, CR, Wishes and/or the Castle from some rooms.

~Courtyard rooms over look either the WL or the VWL Courtyard. This is a view of the EWP, geyser, pool and Bay Lake. South Wing rooms look toward the dock and North Wing rooms look toward FW and the marina in the distance.

I don't think I've seen any views from the south wing.

And here is a link to a WL photos thread:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1717127
This is the view from a 5th floor South Wing Inner Courtyard View room:

Aww, thanks. Congratulations on your move to WL CL, and Welcome Home! Is there a way to make this reservation non-changeable now? :rotfl: There's probably not a way to upgrade it to make it any nicer, so carve it into the Lodger's Log!
We can't wait to hear about your trip.
:rotfl:
Thank you for the welcome and don't worry, I carved it and highlighted it with a Sharpie.

We checked in this morning around 10 am. Not only was our room ready, but we found out we were upgraded to a woods view bunk bed room. We had reserved a standard view through a promotion from our TA, with hopes of getting a bunk bed room. Taking a rest after some pool time and will be heading to the MK today.

Thanks everyone for all the great info on this thread!

Amy
Congratulations on your wonderful upgrade and if you get a chance, we'd love to know for sure whether BB rooms are available within the STD View.

Welcome back, Kook!

Yay for your only 6 weeks!(And yay for our 4 weeks, 1 day!)
Thank you and only one month for you tomorrow!!!!!

Welcome back....hope you had a great vacation :). Six weeks isn't that long to wait......you will be pulling into the lodge before you know it.
DH mentioned this AM that he can't wait to pull up to the Lodge and see one of the Rangers/Greeters standing in the port cochere:goodvibes

My DH and I did a little resort exploring when we were there in February. While exploring the fourth floor we looked up and there on the club level floor was a gentleman with his newspaper and cup of coffee, with a great view of the atrium, looking like he was settled in for the next few hours. That's so funny that you mention that. I think it was during our first stay at WL back in 1997 that DH recalls looking up to the 7th floor and wondering who those lucky people were who were eating and drinking and looking so comfy and content in their chairs. The view down is amazing and the view out to Bay Lake and the Courtyard. If you've never tried the OFC, I highly recommend it (with a discount;)).

We returned from our trip late Monday night and just wanted to post a quick report (I definitely did not take enough pics of the Lodge or our food... spent most of the time chasing after our 2.5 year old!)

Thanks for posting and congratulations on your pending Lodger-to-be! No need to wait until 2016 to post here again.

Great thread! Thanks so much for sharing! Very informative! :)
:welcome: Angela! Have you stayed at VWL?

We just returned from 9 nights at Riverside which is where we have stayed the past 4 trips. We are seriously considering staying at the Lodge for Christmas in 2014.
The weather is so hot and humid in June that I am ready for something different and what could be than better Christmas time at the Lodge!!! :thumbsup2
Now I am trying to learn all I can because this would be our first time staying at the beautiful Wilderness Lodge. Can't wait for 2014 dates and rates to be released.
Looks like I might need to brace myself for "sticker shock" also. The room prices look pretty expensive for the week around Christmas. Are there ever any discounts offered for that time of year?

Thanks!!

Carla

WDWKOOK I was able to finish out my picture loading problem and have two days of our trip loaded on my trip report. Thanks.
