AoA Question

My family is planning on visiting WDW next summer and we would love to stay in a suite at AoA. There will be 5 adults 1 child age seven and an infant age 1-1/2. I know that it says that a suite sleeps 6, but I read somewhere that it can be 6 plus an infant. Is that correct? I believe as long as our grandson is under 3 he is still considered an infant. We would really like to start planning, but are trying to decide if we will actually be able to stay there.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

you can stay there - but that is a lot of adults for something designed for kids.

would go with fw cabins or 2-bedroom villa

or 2 rooms at a value first.

I haven't stayed at AoA but have stayed at a family suite at ASMu & at the cabins. I would not recommend a cabin. The suites have 2 bathrooms, easy access to a food court and much better bus service.

Thanks for the info. We really wanted to try the suites for our then to be 7 year old grandson. He would love the theming. We are still in the discussion process of where to stay. We have usually done two value rooms, but thought we would try something different.

I'd go with 2 rooms at a mod or deluxe for bigger beds personally

the AoA suites only offer 3 sleeping areas (a queen bedroom, table/convertible bed, and a full (I believe) sleeper sofa) I'd never put 5 adults and 2 little ones in there

Yes you can stay at AOA! The baby is not counted in the 6. So now would be a great time for you to go! We are staying at AOA with 4 adults and 2 children. My grandchildren are going to love it! Last time we rented two rooms at Pop so I figure this is even going to be better since I have been told the beds let up (table)and out (sofa) very easy! It will be nice to have the living room and dining area of 4 chairs during the day, small kitchen area with sink and microwave, fridge with freezer.
I read somewhere on here that one lady blew up a twin mattress and put in the bedroom for one of her children. I don't know if you need that but thought I would pass it along!

I have to agree with all of this. Get 2 rooms at AoA. You have a lot of adults for a suite geared for children.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I appreciate the input and will pass it along to the rest of the gang.

Southern Bell... I would love to hear how it goes with your group. :)

We will be there next week! But we are 2 adults and 11 year old girls. We are in the Cars suite and love that there are two bathrooms. I am a little bummed about the sofa sleeper as the other "bedroom". We are doing a split stay and the Hard Rock is similar price ( at Universal) but has two bedrooms. After a long day in the park, I'm glad I will not be on the sofa bed! Lol!

Who exactly is the rest of the gang? I think this is important as some of the people will have to share a large sleeping space, with next to no privacy.

The group is myself, my husband, my daughter, son and his wife and their 2 little ones. To be honest, this is my kids' idea. They have no problem sharing the space and think it will be a great time. I just told them that I knew the sleeping limit was 6 and didn't know if the 18 month old at that time would count as the 6th person.

I would guess that you and your husband would take the bedroom? As long as the rest of them know they will be sleeping in the same space, sharing the same tv, and are fine sleeping on fold outs, it is do-able.

My hesitations are, what if the kids need a nap? What if one of the kids has a restless night? What if someone wakes up extra early? Due to the way the rooms are set up, they won't even be able to make a cup of coffee without waking the others in the room. The only place to go to walk or sooth a child without waking the others would be outside.

Only your family can decide how much togetherness is ok and how much is too much.

Not reading the whole post, we did something like this once, 3 families in a 2 bedroom villa at OKW....wife and I, daughter, son in law and their 9 month old and my wife's sister and husband... We thought it would be great but issues do arise...

Control over A/C temp... People sleeping in LR on pull out, early riser, late going to bed people... The logistics of different family members, even close, begging to have issues after the second day...

If we ever attempted this again, 3 separate rooms... Each group has control over their own environment ...even with just us and daughters family... More easier and better if each has their own space... Separate rooms

This was my experience also.
Me, wife, her mom, stepdad, and our 9mo old DD at FW cabins. They had the bedroom while we slept on the Murphy with DD in her PAC-n-PLAY (since we would be up/down with DD at night) and come morning as soon as my wife or I woke and made a noise they were coming out of the bedroom, so we had no privacy while they could just go to the BR when they wanted to be alone. By day 3 it was getting tiresome, I decided to just walk in the bedroom to ask a question, he said i should learn to knock, to which I replied they don't knock before they come out. Our luggage is in the LR and often times in the way, its just cramped, with almost no privacy. Just be aware of possible problems that could arise, especially amongst brother, sister, and sis-n-law all sharing the LR with children.
This was our last time sharing a room unless its a multiple bedroom house/condo. We get along great with them at home. Its just the simple fact the cabins weren't big enough for our needs, and OP- I doubt the AoA suites are either for 5 adults and 2 kids.

:thumbsup2 Will do!

In fairness to you we are used to family togetherness! We take several camping trips a year to the lake & mountains with everyone(sometimes as many as 10 have spent the night) So for us the Suite sounds great! LOL! We will have 2 full baths and it will be twice as big as our camper, and only 6 people! LOL!

As far as privacy in the hotel, we rented two rooms at Pop in 2011 and left the door open anyway so our grandson could go back and forth and play! He slept with us several nights! When we were at Pop we could see AOA being built and we said then, that we would have to stay at AOA in the cars suites(our grandson collects them all and plays with them all the time) for our grandson the next time at DISNEY!

So ....AOA here we come! LOL! Good or bad! LOL!

We liked Pop Century but to get connecting rooms in 2011 we had to take 1 room for people in Wheelchairs! My husbands only request has been that his bed not be in the floor and his shower to have a bottom to catch the water! LOL! So as long as my bed at AOA isn't in the floor and my bathroom has a tub he will be OK! LOL!

For us this summer trip to Disney is about taking our daughter and her children to Disney, letting them stay at the new AOA(with all the theming), and seeing fantasyland at MK. I think our grandson(4) is at a good age to enjoy it and our grandaughter who is just one will enjoy some things at AOA, too! I would never choose AOA (especially a suite) for just me and my husband. We are doing it for the grandchildren!

But... I will let you know how it was for us compared to having two rooms at POP!

Thank you! This almost sounds like our family. We visited last summer and had two rooms at ASSp. We also left the door open for our then 5 year old grandson. My DS and DDIL were actually celebrating their honeymoon and we actually kept him with us for a few nights, but the door was always ready to be open if he needed his mom or stepdad.

We also promised to take our grandson back to the cars suite if at all possible on the next visit. We now have a 6 month old grandson that will be 18 months next summer, so I think he will enjoy it also.

I don't know when you will be visiting, but I will anxiously awaiting your report. :)

I do appreciate everyone's responses. I always like to ask for info on these boards!!

I will say that my wife and I stayed at AoA in April. Being that it was just the two of us, we snagged a Mermaid room. I gotta be honest, it was for her Bday and that's what she wanted, but I wondered if it would be a bit *too* geared towards children. The Mermaid rooms were excellent, and it was not cheesy at all, at least I didn't think so. That area of the resort was very quiet, and had a lot of adults. Most of the kids must have been in the other areas with suites.

We had another couple go with us as well, and we looked into getting a suite. I thought it would be cheaper on both of us. NO. We could have easily gotten two Mermaid rooms for cheaper according to our travel agent. Just throwing that part of it out there as well.

We will be leaving very soon! Our ressies at AOA in cars suites are June 27-July 6, 2013.

If theres anything in particular you want a picture of let me know!

We will probably have alot of stuff with the kids so pictures will be interesting! LOL! We will have food, drinks, cups, cooler, toys, diapers, double stroller! LOL! Our pictures won't be of a neat little room and just one or two things hanging up! LOL! They will be very realistic of how it is and how it is really working! LOL!

Wow. Thanks for the offer to share your photos. I love the idea of all of the baby/toddler items. We will be traveling with those items also. We also will probably need a pack n play for the infant! I would love to see how you guys work out everything in the room.

Have a great time!!
