Challenging day at MK

I had a CM call me a ***** before. We were given stale popcorn and asked if we could wait for fresh popcorn and the CM said "this is fresh popcorn" and then turned to the other CM and said"the ***** wants fresh popcorn". We were so mad!! Went to City Hall and the wait was over an hour to talk to someone. So, we just left for the evening!!

Don't be a *****. . .eat the ******* popcorn.

:duck:

I am sorry you had a bad day but don't complain about the line at the Grand Floridian, or the generator, you weren't staying there. . . . . I hope you see what I mean. :flower3:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm afraid I don't see what you mean. I complained about the line at the Grand Floridian because that is where the CM told me to go and take one of the many extra boats that were being diverted to the GF. Though I was not a resort guest there, (and the part I do agree with you about, yes, I would've been absolutely pissed if I paid that much to stay at the resort and got stuck) I was effectively stuck there because of Disney's broken *** monorail. I mentioned the generator because it just added to the ridiculousness of the whole situation. We didn't demand they turn it off, my wife simply asked, "Hey, would it be possible to maybe move that somewhere else or turn it off for awhile until the line goes down?" It certainly wasn't a focal point of my morning.
Thanks for the flowers.
You really asked them to move a pump/generator? Looks like it was in use, so where were they supposed to put it, someplace where it wouldn't reach the needed area? :confused3
I'm worried about the monorail system, as it seems to be down a lot more than usual. Surprised though that they didn't commandeer a few buses to lighten the boatloads.
I know why the CMs are sounding more rude these days - it's a direct reflection of some customer behaviors that have been getting out of hand. It seems that everyone is getting more rude, or oblivious to others, and then CMs have to be incredibly blunt to get people to move. I don't think it's the 20 years old, I think it is the guests. We've never run into a rude CM, only rude guests.
Ok.. maybe guests are becoming ruder and more obnoxious in general but, that doesn't excuse poor customer service. It is a CM's job to suck it up and try to be as friendly as possible even when the customer isn't being that way. I work in customer service and yes, people can be downright rude and annoying but, I am told to smile and be as patient as possible with people and hold my cool. I have been called names and everything else but, I don't recall ever yelling at a customer.. to me that is over the line.
Anyway, the majority of CM's are great but, it would be unrealistic to think every situation is caused solely by the customer and that CM's never get rude or out of line. Its actually ridiculous to even suggest it.
I would consider my family well behaved guests. We never make trouble.. we do what we are told and we follow the rules, we also never complain about things. In general we are pretty laid back.. however, I had a bad experience with a CM at MK back in 2011. We were returning to Splash Mountain with a FP and we were like 2 minutes early on the window start time.. not exaggerating, literally a couple minutes early. The CM got pretty snappy with us and yelled at us that we were early and to stand over there.. so I told him "sorry about that" and not rudely or sarcastically I may add and we moved to where he wanted us to move. When we came back through a couple minutes later he snatched our FP's out of our hands and was sighing very heavily like he was annoyed with us about something but, to this day I have no clue at all what his problem was. He was rude and had absolutely no cause to be and I can guarantee you that we did nothing at all to deserve that. Arriving to a FP line 2 minutes early is nothing to be treated rudely about. I don't buy into this idea that it is always the guests fault because I know for a fact that is not true.
Honestly, it's the job of the Cast Members *not* to be cranky. They're paid to smile and add to the magic, not take away from it, no matter how cranky the guests are. This was a big reason I disliked the CM experience at WDW in May, especially in MK. If a CM yelled at guests in DLR the way I saw CMs yelling at guests in MK, they wouldn't last long.
I was there and may and felt the same way. The CMs were just not as Disney-ish as the past. There were a few great ones, a few terrible ones, and lots of just mediocre ones.
*This would have to be a drawbridge, since that canal is used for the Electric Boat Pageant (or whatever it's called) so the floats can get backstage.
Not necessarily -- it could be a pontoon bridge which could be unlatched from one bank and winched out of the way to allow the boats through....
Don't forget that part of the reason it took the OP two hours is because they decided to forgo the ferry and go to the monorail - that takes up time too. So it's not all WDW's fault.
Uh, in my book it is... OP didn't cause the monorail to break down. OP didn't fail to react to the transportation system bottlenecks.
OP's not at fault at all here, in my opinion. Disney owes its guests quick, reliable transportation from the TTC to the MK. Without it, the flaw in the TTC design concept becomes perfectly clear...
If they had stayed with the original ferry, they might have gotten there a lot sooner.
And if they had gone to Universal Studios, they wouldn't have had to wait for ANY transportation...
I'm sure you misheard them. Undoubtedly, you were standing near the Snow White ride, and the CM was trying to stay in theme, referring to you as a witch. :rolleyes1
Had you stayed around any longer, no doubt they would have attempted to throw you into a pond to see if you float.
Ok what I meant by it was, you were there there by chance. You were not staying there and really should not have been there had you followed what would have been the norm for a guest not staying in the GF. You only ended up there because you saw that Monorail getting ready to leave so you boarded it. Had it not been ready to go, you never would have found yourself over there getting off a stalled Monorail, going down to wait for a boat, standing by a generator .... now do you get it ;)
Had you stayed on that line for the Ferry, you actually would have been in the MK a lot sooner than you arrived there taking your short cut. So my point is, you should not be complaining about your detour at the GF, that was your doing, not Disney's... :) and I do not mean to sound harsh or rude, just stating a plain fact.... and yes, you have every right in the world to complain about the rest of it.. and I don't blame you..
Oh, I think I get it now. Since I decided to take an alternative route, on a monorail that I was told was open for business, it was my fault that I got stuck at the GF. Makes sense. My bad. Next time I guess I could just park at the CR and walk, that way I can make sure I won't get stuck anywhere. :flower3:
Just out of curiosity (no sarcasm/moaning intended), can Disney buses get from TTC to MK bus stops easily? I'm sure I'm not looking at the whole picture here, but can a bus from TTC get to MK easily? The toll booths(?) were you pay to go into TTC is all one way?
I know they can get out of TTC to get to say, EPCOT etc. So would the bus have to take a long route to get back onto the road leading to MK bus stops?
Again, just asking out of curiosity :)
Easy to run buses between TTC and MK--they just don't since there are two other modes (normally).
Never mind...not worth it. However would like to know what ETWB is short for.
Or you could have parked in the MK parking lot like you were supposed to and taken the big ferry across to MK. It would have been there a lot quicker, like maybe at least an hour. From what I read it wasn't the big ferry that was being used, it was the small shuttle boats that run from the Poly and GF to the Entrance of MK. They hold about 20/30 people as opposed to the big ferries that hold over 300 people. Again, if they had entered via the MK parking lot...the problem would not have existed at all.
But that said, the problem here was the Monorail. I realize that when it happens to be broken down when you are the one waiting for it, it can be very frustrating, however, as some have posted...they are unreliable, etc. That just isn't true. It is though, the prime reason why Disney never extended the Monorail system. They can have a thousand trains, but, if one breaks down no monorail can move. It's one rail, they can't go around the broken one. Breakdowns can happen to brand new equipment just as easily as an older one. Those things have proven to be extremely dependable. They have 100's of thousands of mile on them, just from normal use. I have been going to Disney for 30 years and have yet to have a Monorail train stop for any reason other then traffic clearance. Just lucky? Maybe, but if they were constantly broken down it seems I would have run into one of them by now.
The OP did park at the TTC and made an unfortunate choice (to take the resort monorail) that is obvious only in hindsight.
That's like saying you don't have a right to complain about getting stuck on a ride because you could have ridden something else. If it's running and open to the public, anyone has a right to be upset when something breaks down while they're on it. Disney could have tested the monorails for a few runs before re-opening them to the public. That's exactly what they do when a ride breaks down. (Hence those occasional parades of empty boats going down the drop on Splash.)
Yes, I realize that, this is why I have deleted my post. I was just having a problem understanding what Simba 14 was and still don't know what ETWB is.:confused3
Sorry you had such a bad start to the day. I am glad you managed to get on with your day eventually.
Your kids deserve credit too. I know it would be a challenge with DD to wait that long.
I have been to WDW 12 times over a period of 14 years and DLP 15 times over a period of 19 years. I can honestly say I haven't experienced a CM in WDW like I have in DLP. Some of them barely lift their head to smile at you. Grumpy guests in WDW? Again nothing like we have seen in DLP. At Christmas in 2012 a family literally pushed their daughter at belle at the meet and greet almost knocking her over the CM explained to the girl that their was a line. Only to have her mother swear at her and say they hadn't paid this much money to wait in line :/ WDW to us is so amazing I just don't want to hear/read that it is changing at WDW.
Thanks Mesa :)
I guess because guests are used to going a certain way all the time it's easy to forget the alternate roads Disney has in place. Also the fact I've been in work for 15 hours my thought process has gone out the window!
The monorail is down again tonight. We have been here since Monday and we have spent so much time on transportation. I have made over 8 trips in the past ten years and never have had issues like this weeks. Not just monorail, but bus and ferry as well.
Disney should comp tix for a day. Pretty messed up not to offer some love back to those that got shafted like that...
