She knew who I was

Checked in at the boardwalk this weekend with online check in. I took magical express and as I walk in the front door I was met by a check in rep with my package. I was trying to determine how she knew who I was.

Here are the facts:
Online checked in with a 11 am approximate time on web site
Magical express with only a few people getting off - manual check the I was the only adult male.
My Disney experience app on my iPhone was used to set up my plans while on the express - wifi identification as I walked in?

I know the magic bands will have the RF chip that will give them the info - but I didn't have one.
What is your guess?

For the past several years, when we use online check-in and arrive at our resort (always either YC or BC), there has been a CM who has walked out to greet us by name and hand us our package of materials. So, yes, online check-in with your approx. arrival time and their knowledge of who is in your party allows them to be prepared to greet you by name.

We don't use DME, so that piece doesn't appear to make any difference.

We have always been greeted by name when arriving at the Poly (2x) and our past trip at the Beach Club. :goodvibes We had no iphone or electronic devices with us. They just figure it out based on their prior info I think.

This happened to us at animal kingdom kidani a couple years ago. We used online check in and magic express and happened to fly first class that trip. I don't know what let them know it was us but it was a nice feeling to be greeted, have them call over bell services to help with our carry on stuff and escort us to the check in counter to finish up. I don't know if it counts as pixie dust officially but to me it did!

Security always checks my ID when I drive up for the first time. They probably punch something into a computer that alerts the CM's outfront on their tablets.

The girl at Kidani Village didn't know my name when I checked in 3 weeks ago, but she pulled all my data up on the tablet before we went in, and the CM at the counter handed her my package without talking to her and greeted me with my name.

When you drive in the security person prints a parking pass which may trigger the info that you have arrived and will pulling up to the entry shortly or they may call and let them know. I would assume that in the OP case his being the only adult male on that ME bus would be the trigger for the person to know he is Mr___---. There may be info transmitted when they scan your ME ticket as you get on the bus.

Maybe by the 5-inch red, white and blue
name badge you were wearing?

This happened to us at CR and I did not use online check in. Our ME stopped at 4 resorts, my only guess is that once we all checked into ME all the resorts were notified which parties where on their way and an approximate time. There were probably 4 families going to the Contemporary and the must have had the party details: total number, number of adults and children, etc.

A CM greeted me by name, pulled our reservation up on her tablet, and walked us inside to the check in case.

You've got the answer right there - #2 under the fact section. :thumbsup2

Your ME "ticket" was scanned when you boarded the bus so they knew which bus you would be on. They know your party size and probable gender from your reservation info. That narrows down the likely hood of them identifying you properly.

first class...they must have identified you by your ascot and monocloe.

This happened to me last year. I didn't use online check in but we did use Magical Express.

I booked the cheapest room I could, with a 30% -ish discount, at Boardwalk Inn.

I was kind of bewildered and surprised when one of the doormen met us as we were walking from the bus up to the front doors of the resort and greeted me by name, asking me to follow him..

Well, the surprise turned to shock when he led us to the concierge desk, and I realized we had been upgraded to concierge level!!!

I didn't believe it at first, thinking there was another person with my last name that they had gotten me mixed up with! But no, it was all true, and we had the best time that week. Concierge really spoiled us!

I never did figure out how he knew who we were, because it seemed to me like a lot of people got off the ME at Boardwalk that day!

This happens to us when we check into Beach Club, and we don't use ME. I'd love to think they just recognize us because we've stayed there 3 times in 12 months, but I know it's because we check-in online and security calls ahead our arrival info from the gatehouse. :lmao:

This happened to us at the WL last February. We used the ME and two families got off. Since we were obviously not a family of four, they basically knew it was us. I think they knew we were on the ME when the driver scanned our tickets. And then they might use GPS or some other system to figure out where the bus is and when you will arrive. It isn't too difficult when using the ME. What is amazing is when they can do that for people who aren't using ME.

Actually, that's even less amazing. The guard at the entrance calls ahead. :mic:

Wow, I feel so unloved! Nobody's ever greeted me by name (and I use ME and online check-in).

The greeting we got last year at ASMo made me feel like I was checking in at a Motel 6 (not the most warm-fuzzy or caring front desk CM's on that trip).

Guess there are a lot of single moms checking in with a daughter so they're not sure which family we are?!

We've been greeted by name at the Poly as well as we get off the DME. It's such a nice little "extra" - even if they're alerted by online check-in and/or DME. It makes you feel a little special :flower3:. We've never been greeted at the door or by name or otherwise at any of the other resorts we've stayed at (WL, POR, POFQ, CSR.)

The greeting you by name thing is one of the many examples my DH uses in his talks to employees about Customer Service--that every customer wants to feel special. He always uses the Disney example, particularly from the Beach Club because they were so warm and welcoming.

I'm noticing a pattern here, Shyjade.

Not bad-mouthing folks who can stay at a Deluxe. I hope to someday.
