catho72: Is there a reason that Yachtsman is off the table???

I haven't eaten there, but I do have an ADR for July, am I making a mistake???

Yachtsman seems to get some mixed reviews, and I can tell you I am one of those giving them!

First meal there in 2008 was ok. I had high expectations based on reviews I read as well as the fact it was a signature dining location. The steak was just okay (actually pretty fatty) and service was also just okay. We definitely had better meals that visit at Narcoossee's and Flying Fish.

Staying at BC we were willing to try again in 2009. It was a fantastic dinner. Loved the steak and now I understood where the good reviews had come from. Service was a little slow, but the quality meal made up for that and we all left happy.

We skipped Yachtsman in 2010, had an amazing steak dinner at Shula's that year.

Skipped in 2011 and decided to go back to Yachtsman in 2012. Very disappointed. My steak came out cold. Really. The side of potatoes was nice and hot but the steak was cold. Waiter questioned me like that truly couldn't be, but I think I know what a hot steak tastes like. So I sat and ate potatoes while they sent it back to the kitchen. That is a lot of money to have to ask for a hot steak.

And the thing was, there was another diner i overheard complaining to the waiter or manager about their meal earlier and all I was thinking to myself is they must be being high maintenance. Felt foolish for thinking that once I felt disappointed in my meal as well.

So after going 1 for 3, I don't think we'll be returning any time soon. Would much rather spend that kind of money at Flying Fish (their steak was actually very good) or a little more at Shula's. We will, however, return to Crews Cup which is in the same great location but with better results each time we've eaten there.

Others have certainly had good meals there but for us, the risk is not worth the amount of cash it takes to give it another whirl.

What is wrong with me? 27 days left and I'm playing with all the ADRs I made 180 days out!

I am so ready for school and most sports (ds will still be playing on the All Star 12 year old team) to end. I am soooo ready for Disney!

Hope to see some of our BC/YC Dis friends at the Dis Meet in the BC Solarium on July 7!

40 days and I'm playing around with mine too!

Wish I was at WDW on the 7th to meet with y'all again!

Dee, we'll call our meet the 2013 Sunken Treasure Meet! We'll be at SAB most mornings and afternoons. If anyone else is around (Buzzy, you're not invited), you'll recognize me with my laminated Sunken Treasure recipe card and my nose might be tinged green....ya know how babies noses turn orange when they eat lots of sweet potatoes and carrots? Yeah, that'll be me, just green from Sunken Treasures. :drink:

I am nervous spending two TS credits on a place that gets lukewarm reviews. I've read good reviews and some not-so-great reviews. Everyone in my family LOVES steak except for me and since I'm in charge of the itinerary, Yachtsman's doesn't make the cut.

What does everyone think of Captain's Grille for dinner?

DisneyMomX7 and Nannette, I didn't realize our trips overlapped!

Ocalla, now that we are "All BC All the Time", our trips overlap too! Yay!

I like Captains Grille. Our dinners were good. The service probably would have been better if our waitress didn't have a large table that was extremely demanding, inconsiderate, and had rude children that kept throwing crayons at her. She had to ask other wait staff to help with her other tables. She kept coming back to us apologizing. But still our service was pretty good considering.

That makes me feel better!

Funny thing is I was still able to get LeCellier for our 4th of July lunch.
I remember when we had to call exactly at 180 days for that one.

The benefit of TIW is that DH and I can each get an appetizer and just split an entree for that lunch.

Yum, have some pretzel bread for me :goodvibes

We ate at both this past January; imo I liked Captains over Yachtsman...could be that I had had so many Sunken Treasure's that afternoon at SAB so was nursing somewhat of a hangover and the waitress at Captains was fabulous and took such great care of me! Amanda her name was - if you go there, ask for her - she was awesome! But - in terms of food too - we enjoyed Captains better for what its worth. We both had steak in both restaurants and Amanda said its because the chef at Captains prides himself on excellence; with Yachtsman right next door he knows he has competition. Anyway, we just really enjoyed it - it was quiet and a great dinner!

And just so you all know, I got hooked on Sunken Treasures...to the point that our steakhouse here, J.Gilberts sees me coming and makes it for me without asking :thumbsup2

LOVED YC and this thread. I learned so much and can't wait to get back to it!!!
but first, a reunion at the Poly, then a cruise....and then YC you are all mine!!!!!

Time to check to make sure I have you listed in the right place:

Post 15: Be Our Guest list

Thanks!

Hi everyone! :wave2:

Looks like we didn't get added to the BOG page after all. I posted about our upcoming trip last month but it must have gotten buried in all the posts..

So here are our details!
We decided to do a last-minute road trip down to WDW to pick up my ds who is currently a CP. This trip will be just me and my 4 kids this time (dh isn't too keen on Florida in August ;))
We are staying at the Beach Club August 7-10th and we are all SO excited! We have never stayed there before- never stayed at a deluxe hotel at Disney before! With the CP discount, it made it doable this time :thumbsup2

Dh and I stayed at POFQ in May and loved it. It was while we were there that I got the idea to take a road trip back to WDW instead of flying DS home. I always have to have a trip to plan! Planning is half the fun for me :)

I agree with you about Yachtsman ... up and down. And when it's good, it's really really really good!!

The best restaurant at WDW in Bob's, Jeanne's and my opinion is Artist Point. And whatever you do, have the berry cobbler for dessert. I don't even like cobbler. But don't even try to get in between me and Artist Point's cobbler ... it wouldn't be pretty. Bob says it's the best steak at WDW. I love their chicken. Jeanne loves ALL their seafood. She says it's as good as any of the fine dining places in Vegas.

I'll be there then too. Ajugust 5-10. Look for me and Princess Lily at SAB!!! Jeanne and Bob too but who cares about them.

For those of you considering getting the dining plan, I highly recommend looking into Tables in Wonderland instead. I really think if you do the math and if you really consider what you would order for your meals if you were NOT on the dining plan (would you order dessert at your QS and TS meals every time?), you'll find you will save more money with Tables. And it's for 13 months. Of course to get it, you have to either be a Vacation Club Member, annual passholder (one of you), a CM, or a Florida resident.

catho72: I posted our pic a few pages back....be sure and SCREAM at me if you see me!!! We always take a mid-day Pool/drink break, so you can see us at SAB daily!!!

Teena I remember you mentioning Artist Point and how much you love it, so I have an ADR there and can't wait to try it!!!

Now to rethink Yachtsman. I too had heard so many up and down reviews from random visitors, but thought maybe they were just being too picky. Now hearing if from regular BC/YC friends it really makes me worry!! I would hat to spend that kind of money on a so-so meal!!!

I have been wanting to add Flying Fish to my week.....now to try and convince the "other two" that I'm right :lmao:

I'm also really considering the Tables in Wonderland card. I see on the list of places you can use it that it lists some lounges like the one in Poly. My question is, can it be used if you go to the lounge for just drinks and apps?? or do you have to order a full meal?

Oh no, the lounges are fine just for drinks. Bob is always testing out that theory!!!
And yep, we used it just for drinks at the Poly lounge. Bob's favorite two lounges are Crews Cup and the lounge in front of Artist Point. We've used our Tables card there just for drinks MANY times!!

I've been debating on whether or not to get the TiW card. We are planning two trips in a twelve month period, the WL in December and BC in April :goodvibes, but we are only planning to stay five nights both times, and I'm not sure we would come out ahead by very much. We've only used the dining plan once in all of our decades of trips to WDW, and we won't use it again. It was too many meals with foods, like desserts, that I normally would never have ordered to start with. I wasn't able to eat the way I wanted.

But today was our ADR day for our December trip and we will be at Cape May for dinner - twice! :goodvibes My husband insisted we eat there twice on our short five night trip. It is our favorite restaurant anyway, so I'm happy about it. ;)

You'd probably get back the cost of the card after your first five uses if it is just two of you. If you don't eat at a sit-down restaurant much, then it would not be worth it. But if you do sit-downs, it's a huge savings over 13 months.

Three weeks from today I'll be at BC for the first time. Can't wait to hang out at SAB and try one of those frozen drinks I've been reading so much about.

You are on there!

Did you scroll down past the first few listings in August? At the top of the list each month I have entries without specific dates and then I list guests chronologically when I am supplied with the actual dates.

LOTS of August entries!!!
