Target 5% back--does it work with Disney gift cards?

I'm just so confused..........I went a few weeks back to our local Target store and was told by the Customer Service Staff that I couldn't get the 5% off when purchasing ANY vendor gift cards including Disney & charging them on my Target credit card. When you went to the store did you buy only the credit cards & make sure you were given the 5% off? I got a discounted Disney Gift Card at Sam's, but am hesitant to try Target since I can't give them back the activated card if I don't get my 5% off. TIA....

The Disney cards are considered "entertainment cards". You should definitely be able to get the 5% off. I do it all the time. You cannot get 5% off of Target gift cards though.

I generally buy mine separately, so I am sure I received my full discount ( both target red and pharmacy rewards). It also gives me a receipt only for hose which I put in my disney box:)

So glad I stumbled across this thread! Our local Giant Eagle is giving extra rewards on gift cards, and it had not occurred to me to buy Disney ones for our upcoming trip. Thanks DIS!

I had not realized that Target discounts also apply to gift cards. I love my Red card, but the current Giant Eagle promotion works out to 12% discount on gas.

Love my target debit card!!! I got one a month ago and I have bought hundreds of $$ worth of Disney gift cards with it! Never had any issues at all! Wish I decided to do this earlier I would have saved more!

Will have to try that next week when I make my run to Daytona Beach. Thanks everyone for all the input!!

Before my June trip I bought $400 in Disney Gift Cards and $50 in Cheese Cake Factory and I got 10% off both. I used my target debit card 5% and my pharmacy rewards 5% off.

Does anyone know if opening a Target Debit Card will affect your credit score? I'm trying to be very careful as we're hoping to refinance in the near future. However, I'd really like to take advantage of getting Disney GCs at a discount. My thought is that it doesn't because it's just linked to your checking account so there is no actual credit being issued. But, I could be wrong. Thoughts?:confused3

No credit check, just a check with your bank to see if it's a real account, I'm sure.

Ever wondered what $2500 in $50 gift cards looks like? :)

I purchased mine with the Target debit card and a pharmacy rewards 5% off certificate. My total savings was $243.25 (the 5%'s are deducted separately. So it does 5% off the total and then 5% off the new total)

I was able to enter all online. Although I did have to do one payment at a time. It was fairy easy. A little time consuming but I watched tv while I sat in bed using my netbook. Most annoying was it prompting me to log in again from time to time. But even that wasn't too bad because I have my browser set to save login info.

Also entering the card online didn't require the pin number. So all you have to do is enter the 16 digit card number. When scratching off the back of the card you only have to scratch off the first 4 numbers under the gray strip.

I also suggest when buying the cards check the back to make sure the gray strip has not been scratched off (really should do this for any gift card you buy). One reason scratch off numbers were added to gift cards a while back is because of theft. What use to happen is criminals would record the number on gift cards and then check those numbers periodically. When the card was later activated by someone buying it, the criminal would then use the value of the card online. Leaving it with a zero balance. So be a little proactive and always check the back of any gift cards before you buy them. :)

How/Where to enter the gift cards? I can see my reservation online but could not find how to pay off the balance. Thanks.

Great suggestion about checking the back of the card. I would never have thought of that. I have been purchasing the gift cards in the same manner every time I get one of the pharmacy rewards. I have three cards now for the extra 5% off I need to use before July. I have about $400 so far that I plan on using for on-board credit. plus whatever more I decide to buy.

With your mouse hover over My Disney Experience at the top right hand side. A drop down menu will pop up. Click on My Reservations. You should see your reservation details. Where it says Remaining balance you should see make payment. Click that and it will bring up payment screen.

Hope that helps.

I still have $450 in gift cards left. I have been on the fence between Quick Service Dining Plan and Regular Dining Plan. August is so hot I am not sure I want to eat that heavy. Although I do have a couple of table services planned. If I do switch I will use the gift cards I have now to pay the balance. I will probably get a couple more pharmacy rewards 5% cards before we go. So I can always buy a few more gift cards for incidentals.

Went to Target on Sat prepared to buy 64 Disney Gift cards was told there was a limit but they weren't sure how much, they just started ringing them up but when I tried to pay it was declined.
So they rang them up 10 at a time and I was able to get 43 of the cards and saved over $209!

I just went today and filled 2 more prescriptions so in a few weeks I will get another pharmacy reward card to stack with my Target Debit card and purchase the remainder plus a few more for spending money, this actually will save me close to $400!! Woohoo!! it took me less than an hour to post 43 $50 gift cards to my trip online (Disney TA site tho)

BTW.. anyone run into trouble in buying large quantities of Disney Gift Cards at target? I found that frustrating it was time consuming having to break it down to several different transactions..

Love all this information! But...

This doesn't seem to work for room-only reservations that were made by phone. Since I paid the first night's deposit on the phone, no remaining balance (or even the deposit I made) is appearing online within MDE, presumably since it isn't due until check-in? Does this only work for packages or online bookings?

I've read conflicting reports about using the gift cards at check-in for payment. Any thoughts?

After switching over to Target I only recently read how NJ doesn't allow the extra 5% pharma rewards. So disappointing!

I guess Target stores vary. I did 50 cards no problem. Are you aware the 5% pharmacy rewards cards is good all day, not just one time that day. So if you have that trouble again just have them finish out one transaction and then do a 2nd right there. Or if you would rather just go to another Target that same day.

Grats on your savings. It's fun isn't it?! :)

I really can't see how they could deny you from using them at check in. It is a legal Disney tender. If the front desk CM would not allow me to do it, I would nicely and respectfully ask for a manager. The card says "accepted at select participating locations" and says WDW resorts, Disneyland, Disney store.com, Disney store, and Disney cruise line. Also says on the front "Shop, Dine, Stay, Play" That seems fairly clear to me. I would have to nicely and calmly stand my ground. :)

Good Luck

Yea I knew it was good all day but redcard wouldn't approve anymore transactions that day! Really ticked me off, b/c when I called them before I left for target to make sure my large purchase would be approved they said as long as I had the $ in my bank acct!

I filled 2 more prescriptions yesterday making it another 5 prescriptions filled so I requested my pharmacy reward card & will get the rest I need in a few weeks..

I don't understand why there is no consistency either in stores and with red card.. Very frustrating but I'm very happy with the savings..
