Standard View Room at the Poly vs. Club Level at Wilderness

The Poly is our favorite resort- we have only stayed there together one time 4 years ago (it is just DH & I). We love the atmosphere/theme, the convenience of the monorail for both MK & Epcot, Wishes from the beach, I could just go on & on.... I decided to splurge and book a standard room at the Poly using the 20% room only discount in September.... however, after some research, I noticed that it's actually $60 cheaper to try club level at Wilderness Lodge..... we have never stayed at Wilderness, visited many times and it's always been one of the resorts I'd like to try. It would also be way out of our price range to upgrade to club level at Poly. My question is, would the majority stick with our standard view room at our beloved Poly or switch to club level at Wilderness? We are not doing dining plan but I do currently have many reservations booked that I would cancel if we did club level, we both are picky eaters though and not sure much of the club level food would interest us (not seafood or sushi eaters- not sure if there is a lot of that?)..... my major concern in switching is that we just adore Poly so much <3 would love to hear any club level trip reports at the Wilderness!!!!

I'm going to let you in on a tried Disney secret! Be sure not to tell anyone and it will save you a bundle!! If you close your eyes in your room, ALL the views are the same!!!

The food at CL aren't enough to make meals out of except for breakfast! They are appetizers and snacks. So I wouldn't cancel dinner or lunch ADRs. Maybe you can eat more counters to cut back but I wouldn't count on CL offerings to fill you up!

As much as I love the poly I would do the cl at wl. We are not big eaters so for us an appetizer and soup and salad is enough for dinner. The lunches we never ate because we are always out at the parks, but it is very nice for breakfast and drinks through out the day. Cl is such a nice treat, and you are close enough to the poly to visit the beach for wishes. I vote for try something new

I would stay poly. CL doesn't really do anything for us. We love the ADRs and eating out. Also, I love how the poly looks like you are dropped into Hawaii and its a vacation by itself to us. WL, again for me, the decor in the rooms just looks horrible and very old pacific NW looking hotel to us (Oregonian here). I know people love it, and I guess thats what makes Disney special is the options, but other then BLT, nothing beats the Poly!

Have fun either way!

Lapp, I completely agree with you about the former rooms of wl, horrible! Now they have been redone and are better. I do love love the poly, but cl is such a nice treat. :cloud9:

We've stayed both (although it's been awhile) and while the Poly is our favorite resort and we absolutely LOVE it, WL CL is amazing :thumbsup2. If you've never stayed at the WL, I think it would be a good idea to try it (especially since you said it's one you'd like to try). The WL rooms are quite a bit smaller than at the Poly (although for 2 people it's fine), but have just been redone recently. WL CL is very nice with plenty of seating, great food offerings, and awesome CL CMs. The seating is arranged around the railing that overlooks the lobby below, which I love....makes for a relaxing morning and/or evening watching the goings on down below :cloud9:. For us, it's hard to go back a smaller room since the there are 4 of us and the Poly rooms are so spacious, but the WL is a beautiful resort and we wouldn't hesitate to go back if the Poly, for some reason, wasn't doable for us ;).

I do love love the poly, but cl is such a nice treat. :cloud9:

I agree :goodvibes.

Hi kapoof

When issues like this come up we do the "split stay"because I just can't decide!!

We have not done the WL club level, just standard. I like the WL but the Polynesian is our favorite and the CL actually has a view of the castle, hard to beat. I can't imagine WL CL is that great. Check out the pics on allearsnet, it seemed like a cramped, slanted roof attic to me.

Hi mickeynut1. :wave2:: also not to add to the confusion but both resorts have good food options.

I agree ::yes::......Captain Cooks is our favorite resort CS, but Roaring Forks runs a very close second. Plus WCC & Artist Point at the WL and Ohana & Kona at the Poly are great TS restaurants :goodvibes.

I made the change tonite! We are trying wilderness club level for the 1st time in september!!

When we chose the resort for our recent trip we paid just under the cost of a standard room at the Poly for CL at the BC. For me, if I was going to pay more I needed something for my money and we found it well worth it to do.

We haven't stayed at WL but hear great things about it.

As for CL in general and meals we did find we had plenty to eat with CL offerings that we were able to eat less at other times and DH and my sister made a meal out of apps a couple times. I could have too if I wasn't gluten free while there. DH and I don't eat seafood either and he had plenty to eat.

But I will say to think about how often you will actually be at your resort. For us, it was super easy to head back to BC from Epcot and HS and we had planned naps in the afternoon for the twins anyhow. If you are going to the parks first thing and not plan to return until the end of the night you won't be around to eat much of the CL offerings. And I'm not sure it would be worth a trip back just for that.

The Poly is our favorite too, but it's not always a fit for the budget. When we stay elsewhere on property, we still get our Poly fix by having some meals there and/or visiting in the evenings for drinks and fireworks from the beach. So in answer to your original question, I'd go with WL CL and plan to get over to the Poly for a meal or just to hang for a while.

This is the last 3 days of a week long trip. The first 5 days, we will be at boardwalk (another new resort for us!) and we will spend most of our park days during this time. While we are at wilderness, I def plan on spending time at the resort to really enjoy the club level. I am excited to finally try out this resort and experience club level for the first time!

Oh, okay. Didn't see that mentioned in the original post. In any case, I'm sure you're going to have a wonderful time! DW and I are thinking we might try the Boardwalk for our 40th anniversary trip next year by renting DVC points.
