Poncho Up, Chicas! DISmoms 5, May 2-6, 2013 Updates Galore 12/9

Here! Of course I am. Feel like I should crack open a bottle of Merlot before I actually start reading though.

I really wish the DIS would get a like button! :thumbsup2 I feel that way too - kind of like sitting down to watch Bachelorette (shhhh) and needing a glass of cab or merlot in my hand!

I was late twice.. thats how I got P and J.. lmao

:lmao::lmao:

SOOO YA the reason for our title. As its raining buckets at the MK and we were waiting for the band to march on by someone (EL) needed to use the facilities... so I tagged along and went too. Now my memory is a lil fuzzy (hmm I wonder why? slushy, wine, wine, wine, champaigne. LOL)) It was either as we were waiting in line for a stall or after we were washing up that I heard a mom say to her kids it was still raining so she told them all.... wait for it... wait for it....

"PONCHO UP YA'LL!!!!"

and from there is became our catch phrase all weekend. Even when it didnt rain we were telling eachother to "PONCHO UP YA'LL!!!" Feel free to use it with your group any time you are in the land of Dis.. when its raining (or not), and for yout instagramers and tweeters thats #ponchoup LMAO.

See everyone around us.. they got the memo and knew to PONCHO UP YA'LL!

:lmao::lmao:I will DEF have to borrow that one - I do live in Texas now! :lmao:

Cute Pic!

The other thing that happened as we were heading over to the MK that brought us great laughs. All day we had been texting, Laura, Lonnie, & Joan. Laura kept promising she was bringing the Sunshine from Minnasoder. But my app kept telling me otherwise

When we sent her pics of us soaking wet and after we had PONCHO'd UP, she told us when we head back to the resort to iron our ponchos to melt the sides together.

(now to be honest this sounds like a great idea, I will most definatly do it next time) But at that moment El and I had just drank around the world, we didnt think it would be a good idea to put a hot iron to plastic... could you imagine explaining the reason for the fire to the Disney Fire Men..

Well sir, my friend from Minnasoder said to use an iron on our ponchos...
Why?
Well to keep us dry, when we PONCHO UP YA'LL! but Im not sure we needed to do it since she said she was bringing the sunshine! HICUP! lol

:lmao::lmao::lmao:You gals are cracking me up! I'm trying not to LOl and SNORT and wake Jim up right now! :rotfl:

Im sure the Old Key West wouldnt mind becoming the New Key West.

Anyhow so back to where we were... where were we again..? OH YA leaving the MK.

El wanted to be sure we had enought time to hit up the OKW bar the Gurgling Suitcase, and then get our luggage before they both closed.

and man am I glad she insisted on the Turtle Krawl! Girl did not stear me wrong

Looks Yummy!

We sat at the bar far left corner under the tv. (why did we not take pics of it? we must have been tired LOL)

Those drinks go down SOOOOOOO easy... you dont even taste the alcohol, man were we thirsty so we had Mr Cash Cab host... to make us another. (again didnt get a pic at the time, we did this a lot this night El will fill you in lol)

I swear to you this was who the barteneder in the Gurgling Suitcase looks like.. I mean I know that shows off air now so the guys got to be working somewhere.. maybe he's at Disney Now?

Love Cash Cab!

The Nets/Bulls game was on and we couldnt leave without seeing who won! Plus El was really egging on some dude that from Chi-Town every time she yelled for the Nets.

Dont mind the dreadlocks were going for a new look... cheers my friend!

and this. Cuties!

We chugged down the 2nd drink and it was just about luggage closing time so we beelined it over there to finally make our way.. HOME. But not before we had a great 5cent tour....

Such a fabulous first date, you two!!!:rotfl2: I love how you just made the rain part of your fun and Phonchoed On - I mean Up! So cool that Joanie's kiddos were in the parade and you were there to cheer the on! :cheer2:

I have to say, it WAS an awesome first date- amazing how that happens! Drea is SOOOOOOOOOO much fun, absolutely hilarious, has a hollow leg :drinking1, apparently requires NO sleep at ALL, so she doesn't even really need a bed, she is up for ANYTHING you want to try- AND she is a girl with a BIG heart, she does the right thing, just a totally wonderful package. SO lucky to have her in the mix!:love:

More fun adventures with you gals. Ugh to the rain but cheers to you for making the best of it!

And speaking of cheers... way to go on the complimentary champagne and turtle krawls! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Glad you were able to cheer your local high school on. My high school marched in the parade twice (a long, long, LONG time ago) and it was so fun!!

I stayed at OKW back several years ago and liked it. Thinking about maybe a quick trip there this summer but not sure. I've gotten so spoiled with the Epcot resorts... can I handle the buses everywhere?? But Jimmy Buffett tunes would help! :upsidedow

Hi Ellen (and the rest of you DisMoms!)!! :wave2:

I just finished reading through all of Ellen's TRs...I think that took a few weeks! :lmao: Definitely a good way to pass time at work!

I am looking forward to reading the rest of your adventures!

Hello Ellen and all the other Dis Moms. Don't know how i missed knowing another Dis Moms trip was happening, but I am glad I found the TR. I always enjoy reading about your adventures.

A few comments:

I was not sure DL was bigger, but it seemed like it when I was there back in February. The smaller castle really bothered me though.

I want that red slushie drink. Hope it is there in October when I am there for Food & Wine

Too bad about the rain, but it looks like you are surviving nicely.

Looking forward to more and the arrival of the rest of the Dis Moms. I believe I am still a Dis Moms Groupie!

Love the reason for the Title !!My last 2 Tr's have had Titles for random reasons too !!! I am sure hoping Lake George inspires something other tha Elvis is in the Building:rotfl2:

Hi Ladies -- it looks like you all had an amazing time! I told my son that sometimes mommies go to WDW without their kids and he looked at me like I have 3 heads. I mean, it is OUR special place, after all, so I can't blame him.

I think if I ever went without him, I would have to LIE LIE LIE and hide all photographic evidence of the adventure. :rotfl:

I never got the bat signal for this one, so joining in late.

Your trips are so fun, but I could never handle all the drinking. I would be getting wild by having 1 a day. :rotfl2: Well I am sure I could have a good time still though! Watching people drink is funny too. ;)

Well, I really DID want to try that Turtle Krawl, Drea's right- MEK/eandesmom/etc spoke so highly of it in one of their TRs, and I knew those ladies would not steer us wrong! So it became the priority of the night, and is why we hopped the bus back.
I could so go for one right now!!

Anyway, speak for yourself, Drea- somebody DID get a pic of the Cash Cab bartender, Joe-
I knew I loved you!

we got a ride over to our Hospitality House area studio (meaning it is in a building near the main area of the resort) by a very informative bellman who gave us our FULL nickel's worth.

Which would have been AWESOME (and was anyway!) if we had been staying longer than 9 1/2 hours. Most of which would be spent sleeping. Drea did need an activity between 8 and 8:15 am, so, it was good for that! But I'm going to let Drea tell you about the conversation with him because it will be MUCH more entertaining if she does it, I have a feeling...It WAS a really funny ride... for all of us.
I will be back to relay that tour soon... I promise..

We chatted a little bit before turning off the lights and calling it a night- and MAN! I was TIRED!!!!! Hangin with Drea is EXHAUSTIING!!! LOL-
I felt bad for keeping us up so long but I really wanted to pack as much time in together before the weekend ended all too soon

We did need to rest up- Lonnie and Laura were joining us (with the sunshine) the next morning, and we needed to be ready for more crazy!
ahh more crazy good times

I have to say, it WAS an awesome first date- amazing how that happens! Drea is SOOOOOOOOOO much fun, absolutely hilarious, has a hollow leg, apparently requires NO sleep at ALL, so she doesn't even really need a bed, she is up for ANYTHING you want to try- AND she is a girl with a BIG heart, she does the right thing, just a totally wonderful package. SO lucky to have her in the mix!
AWW tear, seriously I have to say it was one of the better 1st dates I had too... HECK it was better than E and my 1st day LOL. I was so worried that meeting up with ya'll (LOL) would be akward but it really was just like catching up with ol friends!

I stayed at OKW back several years ago and liked it. Thinking about maybe a quick trip there this summer but not sure. I've gotten so spoiled with the Epcot resorts... can I handle the buses everywhere?? But Jimmy Buffett tunes would help!
It did make us a lil sad that we were on a bus listening to that and not on a boat.. they should really play that on all the ferry's LOL

Hello Ellen and all the other Dis Moms.
Hi from one of the OTHERS lol
A few comments:

I was not sure DL was bigger, but it seemed like it when I was there back in February. The smaller castle really bothered me though.
What the castles smaller? NOO I heard it was bigger... El? lol

I want that red slushie drink. Hope it is there in October when I am there for Food & Wine
Oh I hope so too, they should add it to the other slushy stand drink menu and have it available 24/7

Looking forward to more and the arrival of the rest of the Dis Moms. I believe I am still a Dis Moms Groupie!
Well we need to do something about that.. go get your wisdom teeth pulled and while you are getting the "juice" call Ellen then invite yourself on a trip.. worked for me LOL.

Btw El we are total band groupies now too, check that off your bucket list... Joan tell the kids thanks for letting us be groupies LMAO

I think if I ever went without him, I would have to LIE LIE LIE and hide all photographic evidence of the adventure.
Eh they get over it fast... yet everytime a commercial for Disney comes on they look at me with these evil eyes I dont know why?? :confused3 lol

Your trips are so fun, but I could never handle all the drinking. I would be getting wild by having 1 a day. Well I am sure I could have a good time still though! Watching people drink is funny too.
HA whats funny is El and I were talking and I said I really havent been drinking much cuz Ive been dieting so my tolerance is low, and her eyes got so big like you have got to be kidding me But this trip did prepare me for my Vegas trip I just got back from on Sunday.

VEGAS BABY!!!

Speaking of which Im gonna interupt this trip and share my fun time I had with E (hubby) and our friends all former marines with E.

We went for the UFC fight and to just meet up again since it had been years for most of us. E and I drove in (5hours) on Friday, they were all coming in Sat. but thats cuz they were staying till Monday and we were leaving on Sunday.

I found a deal for the Luxor for $55.. (there is a reason why it was so cheap lol but it did the job none the less) IMO as long as you have a bed to sleep in and your not passed out on the street I think your doing well in Vegas LOL.

The rooms really need to be redone but the bed and bathroom were ok! Plus we werent planning on spending that much time in it since it was VEGAS BABY

Our room had an ok view for the 16 hours we were there
IMG_6253.JPG

E and I deceided to just keep it low key on Friday and hang around the Luxor/Mandalay bay (since they are connected). We knew we would have to save our endurance and livers for Saturday.
No fridge but Marines improvise
IMG_6257.JPG

time to make a donation
IMG_6258.JPG

Coupons in their hotel entertainment book got us free drinks at their bars
IMG_6271.JPG

Then E decieded he didnt want to drink anymore... so I took one for the team and chugged his beer (what I cant let good alcohol go to waste!)
IMG_6273.JPG

We grabbed some bugers then called it an early night... seriously we were in bed by midnight but we had an early wake up call.. no joke 430 am the FIRE ALARM goes off.. talk about causing a hangover..
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152853328405290&l=6253539159317092743

after about 20mins of that annoyance we got the all clear... and ok to go back to bed.. YA cuz thats gonna happen. I never fully fell back to sleep, hubbs had no prob of course. So I eventually got up and got ready. We were picking up a couple from the airport then we were heading over to the Monte Carlo for the real shinanigans to begin!

But 1st the best part of waking up is Kahlua in your cup
IMG_3114.JPG

Once we got settled at the Monte Carlo I set up the bar! Sink whatever..
IMG_3117.JPG

We changed and headed for the pool!
IMG_3121.JPG

Got some chow and a beverage!
IMG_6309.JPG

Not so lean, and not so mean, but still a Marine
IMG_6310.JPG

Eventually we got cleaned up and headed over to the MGM for the UFC fights
IMG_3144.JPG

They have known eachother since 1995, I met them in 96, and they still call eachother brothers... Band of brothers got to love the marine corps LOL
IMG_6332.JPG

E, myself and another friend Wade were having a hard time staying awake.. all the sun and alcohol were getting to us. But I did ok getting a couple red bull (vodkas LOL) and E was just tired. but poor Wade, he ended up walking around the arena and another one of our friend found him and caught him as he literally passed out. Thats when the drunk calls stared coming the one that caught him called one of us (mind you we all had split up), one person said he was in an ambulance passed out, another that he was with paramedics, another hes being life lined out to the hospital LMAO. in the end he was in the 1st aid getting water lmao. But after that we all were WIDE AWAKE.
IMG_6343.JPG

Bigfoot was the main fight (i have no clue who these people are LMAO) but he did go down in the 1st round FAST, bigger they are, harder they fall LOL
IMG_6366.JPG

After the fight we headed back to the hotel to change and hit the clubs...
IMG_3148.JPG

But I grabbed a beer as we waited in line to get in 1st.. I have to say half the fun of vegas is getting to drink out in public.. it makes you feel like your totally in vacation mode.. or at Epcot drinking around the world LMAO
IMG_6404.JPG

Oh the things you see in Vegas
IMG_6387.JPG

Once in the club we grabbed drinks and got our groove on
IMG_6408.JPG

Eventually we all called it a night and headed back to the Monte Carlo cuz we remembered we werent as young as we used to be LOL But 1st we stopped for some greasy food court food and a beverage to wash it down.
IMG_6416.JPG

Poor girl got left... thats just wrong LOL
IMG_3149.JPG

E and I got to bed around 3:45am... and this time our wake up call was for 830am via the fire alarm. No joke I swear to you it went off AGAIN. We must have been the jinx!! We randed everyone up and made our way down to the buffet to get some chow and we said our good byes. Then threw out ideas on when we could meet up again...
IMG_6419.JPG

E and I then drove the 5 hours back to Cali
IMG_3160.JPG

Hey El you should really change your trip when you come out to Cali make sure you see the biggest thermometer in Baker Ca.
IMG_3163.JPG

We had to leave on Sunday because we had a special birthday boy to see.. My oldest (P) was turning 15
IMG_6422.JPG

So we finished the weekend with going to see the Fast6 for his special day. Which was really a treat for me too cuz I love me some Vin Diesel and The Rock!

Let me go feed the minions then ill come back with our Tour Guide story!

5cent tour....

Ok so to get back to OKW, El and I had just finished watching the Nets take the Bulls. We chugged the last of our drinks and needed to make a beeline to the luggage holding area before they closed at 11pm.

We made it just in time, got our luggage a total of what 15 bags for just the 2 of for 4nights LMAO kidding.. slightly. Our driver :drive: came back from his last delivery and greeted us .. was his name Steve, El? eh.. he'll be Steve to me. So Steve loads in our junk and we get into the van. The small talk start...

Steve: Evening Ladies.. 1st time at OKW?
El: Nope been here before
Me: YUP Im a Virgin :littleangel:... only in OKW lol
EL & I: GIGGLE GIGGLE GIGGLE :rotfl2:
Steve: WELL THEN ... umm, Welcome :welcome:let me tell you about the place, Our main resturant is Olivias, we have boats :boat: to rent, bikes :moped:, Tennis volleyball and baskeball courts, and an awesome pool. The theme is its a huge sandcastle with the slide that shoots you out of a Mickey Mouse head::MickeyMo opening.
Me: Wow sounds awesome!! Giggle Giggle giggle :rotfl:
El: Do you think were really going to use ANY of that dude? :stir:
Me: GIGGLE GIGGLE GIGGLE :rotfl2:
Steve: Not.. Staying... Long.. Ladies...???
El: NOPE checking out tmrw and moving to AKL :squirrel:
Me: Giggle Giggle Giggle :lmao:
El: But you know Drea here is crazy and gets up at the crack of dawn while on vacation and needs something to do from 7-9am.
Me: True Dat Giggle Giggle Giggle
Steve: Well in that case, the pool opens at 8am
El & I: PERFECT!! Giggle Giggle Giggle
Steve: just shook his head and giggled too.

(did I leave anything out EL.. remember by this time Drea had a few beverages.... )
  1. Oj w/Bacardi
  2. slushy
  3. wine
  4. wine
  5. wine
  6. headache
  7. champaigne
  8. turtle crawl
  9. turtle crawl

By this time we had reached our room, so we got out and Steve brought our months worth of luggage in. We were having so much fun with him we didnt think to take his pic and we tipped him well being that we really gave him a run for his money. :worship: popcorn::

I want to say we thought about calling him back just to take a pic but thought that sounded to stalker-ish, then I think I said when we check out we should ask for him. To which El replied something along the lines of YA cuz Im sure he works a 16hour shift LMAO.

Once we closed the door we cracked up for 5mins. :lmao: Omg as I am writing this I am cracking up. Poor guy dealing with 2 crazy drunk women LOL:love:

After that excitment we did what any normal person did.. take pics of the room. LOL It must have looked like a club from the rooms across the golf course. El would take a pic with a flash, then me, back and forth.

I had the bed closest to the patio.. (cuz Im sure you were all wondering who slept where LOL)

after getting things ready for tmrw, charging our phones/camers etc, taking off our make up and brushing out our dreadlocks, we finally hit the rack. It was about 1130-Midnight-ish I think. But I needed to get up early if I wanted to be 1st on the pool slide LMAO

Next Up... El ditches me...:sad2:

Mike and I stayed at the Luxor in October. Cheap room, but good enough to suit our needs. We didn't spend too much time there....most of our time was used walking up and down the strip eating and drinking everything in sight!

Argggh!! I had a whole response types out and I lost it. I can say as those two were sending awesome pictures of their new hair I was watching my lawn change color again. This time from a hint of spring right back to the middle of January. I had to bring the sun right cuz it HAS to warm and sunny in FL if it is snowy in MN, right?

A little late, but I am in, looks like so much fun!!! I am dying to take a girls trip, but don't know how I would explain it to my two boys. However, that pink slushie looks so good I think I could figure it out :rotfl2:

You guys are so much fun. I was dying at the text message exchange about ironing the poncho.

Ok so I was like a bazillion updates behind...not really just hadn't posted, lost my spot, yadda yadda yadda and am finally all cuaght up. Will not possibly remember everything I wanted to say other than all 3 of you had me rolling!

From "poncho up y'all" to "Cinco de Drinko", to the concept of ironing plastic and finding rain gear in Minnesoda....I was howling.

Soggy start though, in more ways than one, thankfully it seems the adult liquid compensated for the liquid sunshine.

I am so glad you liked the Gurgling Suitcase and the Turtle Krawl :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Just don't make it at home, it's not nearly as good. Trust us!

Or try a different recipe...that's my next trick. I swear I had that bartender this summer, I'd have loved to actually hang at the bar for a bit at night, how fun. Love the door to door golf cart service, can't wait to hear THAT story.

Ah...OKW and Jimmy Buffet everywhere. I love that place and really do wish it was one of our homes, glad it's not usually an issue to get in there as it's definitely high on our list of places to stay. The entire vibe is so perfect. I always feel like the rooms don't photograph as pretty as they are.

Now the question is, what did Drea have to do at 8am???

Well, I really DID want to try that Turtle Krawl, Drea's right- MEK/eandesmom/etc spoke so highly of it in one of their TRs, and I knew those ladies would not steer us wrong! So it became the priority of the night, and is why we hopped the bus back.

And by the way...did you know that on the OKW bus, they play Jimmy Buffet type tunes the whole way? It's SOOOO cool! I loved that! :goodvibes

Anyway, speak for yourself, Drea- somebody DID get a pic of the Cash Cab bartender, Joe-

And he was GREAT!! I really like the Gurgling Suitcase- it feels like a place where everybody knows your name...even if they didn't know ours. ;) The BIG game was on, and I did enjoy going back and forth with those Bulls fans (Timmy is a HUGE Brooklyn Nets fan, so I had to do him proud!), but it was all good fun. And those Turtle Krawls were Da BOMB! Yum!! When game 6 finally ended (and the Nets WON!!- but then they lost in the next one- glad I wasn't there for THAT!) we got a ride over to our Hospitality House area studio (meaning it is in a building near the main area of the resort) by a very informative bellman who gave us our FULL nickel's worth.

I’mmmm back. :woohoo: I had to take a disboards break and visit cemeteries. Seriously.

One of my hobbies is genealogy research and one of the big things in genealogy research is visiting cemeteries in places you normally would not visit. I just spent a week in SC (near Kara’s) and GA snapping photos of tombstones of people long dead and gone, way long dead and gone, like from the 1800s…

I love OKW, one of my favorite places to stay. Reading through your drink list though I think if I had drank as much as Drea I would have had no memory of OKW or any other part of the day.
