Poncho Up, Chicas! DISmoms 5, May 2-6, 2013 Updates Galore 12/9

Hurrah for another DIS Mom's TR! Can't wait to hear all about your fun!!

Sorry about the rain but love, love, LOVE your positive attitude about it. :thumbsup2

Drea - love your son's suggestion that you take them to WDW to make them better kids. Smart kid you've got there! ;) And am :rotfl: at your dentist story!

Love the cinco de drinko buttons-- super cute!

Bummed I missed Flower & Garden this year... it looks so pretty... even in the rain. And love the addition of the food (& wine) booths!!

I'm late again! In the words of one of my aunt's - always 2 hrs late - "you started without me???" :lmao: Nice start - so fun to see Drea with you ladies! I'll be back to catch up - missed you while you were gone! :grouphug:

I am in Ellen !!So sad no Kara this time !!!The cruise by the way was great !!! I have TR going on it already too !!!

So much looking forward to reading ths trip report, the Dismoms are always so much fun!!

We were driving up from Miami to Orlando through that rain - and it was even heavier in Southern Florida!!

Please forgive me for not getting to replies tonight, but I wanted to do an update, so I will do replies later-

So we took the monorail to the Contemporary for our dinner at The Wave. We were pretty early, but I was hoping to score some dry pants, as I said. Anyway, soon Drea, me & my wetpants went downstairs for dinner-

Passing by the bar-

And heading to our table. I asked our server if they had any pants in the back for our table, or a blazing fire to warm up by, but unfortunately he had neither, although he did come up with a bunch of napkins to dry off with! That helped! Drea wasn't feeling so hot- her head was starting to pound, so she passed on a cocktail. I ordered a glass of white wine, our server asked me a couple of questions about what I like in wine (most everything except oaky chardonnay- blech! and I prefer dry, lighter whites) and he showed up with a bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc- one of my favorites! So he poured me a glass. For dinner, I kind of wanted to try these two apps, so instead I ordered this app for two for just me for dinner- The Wave Appetizer for Two - lump crab Florida rock shrimp cakes, fish tacos with avocado gelato and house-made soft flour tortillas $16.99

I REALLY liked the crab/shrimp cakes! I really did NOT like the fish tacos- they were over-chipotle- too much, it was all you could taste, and they could have been fish, pork, chicken, ratatouille :upsidedow....really the meat was unidentifiable. I would not get them again, but that avocado gelato was yummy! Drea had Whole Grain Penne Pasta - with Florida White Shrimp, Cedar Key Clams, Calico Scallops, and Roasted garlic-Tomato Broth $26.99

And guess what? Her's had lots of chipotle in it too! :confused3 Isn't that kind of odd, when her menu description said nothing about spice? Anywho....we did have room for dessert. I tried No Sugar Added DessertsChocolate Hazelnut Mousse with Raspberry, Angel Food Cake with Seaonal Florida Berry Compote, and Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée 8.49

I really enjoyed it! Drea went with Creamy Indulgence Butterscotch Crème Brûlée with Espresso Macaroon, New York Cheesecake with Seasonal Florida Berry Compote, and Olive Oil-infused Chocolate Truffle Mousse with Salted Caramel Sauce 8.49

Lucky us, the couple at the table next to us was celebrating their 40th Anniversary! We had gotten into a conversation with them about DVC, and they asked us if we wanted their complimentary champagne because they did not drink- well, thank you very much, you may not, but we sure do! :rotfl: Happy 6 hour anniversary, Drea!

Check paid, it was time to go find the monorail....

Look Lonnie! It's a bunny!

And as we were pulling in to the MK stop, what do you think we saw???

I know Drea says she saw a double rainbow before dinner, but for some reason, I saw it after dinner! :confused3 :rotfl:

And as we were all walking down the ramp, I yelled, "It really IS the happiest place on earth!!"

Cuz it IS! And really, how often in your life do you get to see a FULL rainbow, and then it's a DOUBLE no less? That's some magical rainy moment for ya!

We found a photographer to commemorate the occasion-

And that rainbow was STILL there-

Then we found Joanie and her DH Peter, waiting in the rain for BOTH of their kids to march down Main St.

And as we were waiting...and waiting...and waiting.....it started raining harder....until FINALLY they made the announcement- the BLAHBLAHBLAH Raider Marching Band from BLAHBLAHBLAH, Pennsylvania!

WHAT???????

".....AND....The Scotch Plains Fanwood Raiders Marching Band from Scotch Plains, NJ!"

Now THAT's what we're talkin about!

I guess with all the bad weather they had been having, another band got pushed to our night to march with us. That was fine- all I can tell you, though, is I don't know if their parents knew, because they were NOT cheering them on when they marched. But we (and I mean WE as in every-adult-and-kid-lining-main-st) ROARED applause when our band came down! It was SO COOL to be shouting S-P-F! With so many families on Main St- even in the rain. :cheer2: I tried to take some pics, but they are atrocious, as you can see-

OMG- Joanie, is that Tuba player Tighe?????

So sorry my camera was completely wiggin out, Joanie- but WOW, was it fun to cheer for your kids and all the other kids from our school! And our band directors who I LOVE!! I hope we can be there in 4 years when they do it again, even though none of my kids OR your kids will be marching- although Timmy will be a SENIOR that year. YIKES!!!!!

We said our goodbyes to J&P, and Drea and I decided to visit....

We got our nickel's worth-

Then walked over to the New fantasyland....

Mostly to check out the girlie stuff my boys would NOT let me see back in November.

We rode in a clamshell-

Before deciding we had had enough of SERIOUSLY feeling like we were Under the sea, and we headed back to OKW.....

I can just hear you and Drea sound like this guys with the rainbows.

http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/dcf83410c7/insane-double-rainbow-guy

What a crazy rainy night! So glad you got to see your band march! I used to be in marching band but we never got to do anything cool other than march in the Mizzou homecoming (and I was at the infamous 5th Down football game!).

Next time we will just STRETCH ya! You will be as tall as Lonnie in NO time!

Passing by the bar-
hmm I dont think I have ever done that... pass by a bar. and NOT stop. Guess theres a 1st for everything

I regret that now LOL

I ordered a glass of white wine, our server asked me a couple of questions about what I like in wine (most everything except oaky chardonnay- blech! and I prefer dry, lighter whites)
I remember it like this.. "what do you like, Nothing Oaky, ok something sweet, nah just not really oaky, a white, ya but nothing oaky, dry?, ya thats good but not oaky... all I thought was if this man brings you anything oaky he's dead LOL

Drea had Whole Grain Penne Pasta - with Florida White Shrimp, Cedar Key Clams, Calico Scallops, and Roasted garlic-Tomato Broth $26.99
Im so glad you remember what the heck I had (how do yo remember that did you write this stuff down? LOL)

And guess what? Her's had lots of chipotle in it too! :confused3 Isn't that kind of odd, when her menu description said nothing about spice?
ya and im the whitest mexican around so it really didnt agree with me. But I knew I was hungry since I had a headache, took some aleve chugged some water and by the time dessert rolled aroun I was good to go! AMAZING how that happens

YUM! I want more

Lucky us, the couple at the table next to us was celebrating their 40th Anniversary! We had gotten into a conversation with them about DVC, and they asked us if we wanted their complimentary champagne because they did not drink- well, thank you very much, you may not, but we sure do! :rotfl: Happy 6 hour anniversary, Drea!

ummm a mouse? lol

I know Drea says she saw a double rainbow before dinner, but for some reason, I saw it after dinner! :confused3 :rotfl:
umm Im going to say Im Jamie Foxx and blame it on the alcohol:rotfl2:

And as we were all walking down the ramp, I yelled, "It really IS the happiest place on earth!!"
SHUT UP. it was you? geezus.. You sound like a 7yr old girl... guess Disney does bring out the kid in us all!

We found a photographer to commemorate the occasion-
Do you have these pics on photo pass? cuz there not on mine?

And as we were waiting...and waiting...and waiting.....it started raining harder....until FINALLY they made the announcement- the BLAHBLAHBLAH Raider Marching Band from BLAHBLAHBLAH, Pennsylvania!
Ha this is where I went Pennsylvania.. I could have sworn they told me they were from New Jersey? lol

".....AND....The Scotch Plains Fanwood Raiders Marching Band from Scotch Plains, NJ!"
YEAH even I cheered.. you know for kids I dont know, in a town I have never been to! lol

But we (and I mean WE as in every-adult-and-kid-lining-main-st EVEN ME!!! you would have thought it was my high school!) ROARED applause when our band came down! It was SO COOL to be shouting S-P-F! With so many families on Main St- even in the rain. :cheer2: I tried to take some pics, but they are atrocious, as you can see-.
Thats ok Drea's here to save the day!.... Ill post in a bit!

Your not alone, my boys would be the same way!

Jill in CO
I am dying that was awesome!

YES!!! That actually IS Drea on that video! She did mention she saw one before, so.....
SHHH i told you not to tell anyone

Me, I just yelled it was the happiest place on earth and I was done. ::yes::

:rotfl2::rotfl2:
But when you go to Yosemite I hope you video a rainbow like this!! heck you better! lmao

I had never been to the Contemp before. I took the monorail thru it once, so it was really nice to get out walk around and see all the tall people clothes. Seriously poor El was SOAKED as in her tan pants were now dark brown. I wish I would have taken a pic of when she held up these super cute mickey sweat pants, she wanted to buy. The legs fell to her feet but the waste would have to be pulled up to her armpits LMAO :rotfl2: I think I laughed so hard I snorted a few times. We window shopped a bit before going downstairs to the Wave.

Loved the ambiance at the Wave

As El said my head was just pounding, Im thinking it was due to lack of food. All I had that day was the lil bit of snacks we shared in France and Moracco. And lots of beverages. So I declined a drink (the horror LOL) and popped some aleve and chugged some water and by the time dessert rolled around I was good to go for round 2, ding ding. To the adorable couple celebrating their anniversary thank you for the champaigne it completed our night! I will be sure to pay it forward when Im older and I'll pass my ensure on to someone and chug E and My complimantary champainge LMAO

Dessert so good I have to share again.. I love cheesecake, so I figured that would be my fav, I really only like creme brule right after they have torched the sugar and its warm, and I wasnt sure what to make of the chocolate mousse its never been my fav. BUT tonight the Wave turned me into a Mousse lover! It just melted in your mouth it wasnt like a pudding type mousse but more solid and AMAZE-BALLS.

After a spicey dinner, it was time to head to Main St USA! Omg not sure what setting my camera was on, but I swear I have a pic just like this from the 80's when I was here with that same Sepia type tone. and sadly it rain then too :sad2:

We just had dinner but look its an Ellen Samich

As I was talking to Joan it was like we had known eachother for eons, and she and her hubby were just too cute. Joan told me her son is a tuba player and daugher is flutist (right?). So I was on a mission to wave and cheer on kids I didnt know from a school I didnt go to from town I wasnt from lol! By the time they finally came marching down, which btw Disneys timing was way off, kind of like their fast pass times (more on that theory later). They had a perfect opening thru the mist but they passed on that to have the kids march in a downpour.. too bad the kids couldnt poncho up... well planned Disney lol. (btw Joan how do those uniforms smell now! :crazy2:)

But then I spotted a tuba player.. is that him... ? way in the back

Apparently I heard tuba and thought thrumpet.. the rain shrunk his instrument.. ya thats it! Sorry Joan. But I will always have the memories of watching some kids I dont know from a school I didnt go to from a town Im not from March down Main St.. How awesome is that! lol

So after we parted ways with the lover birds (J & P, not my boys LOL) El asked me what I wanted to do... Um I dont care Im just happy to be here! Eventually we deceided on the Haunted Mansion one of my must do's everytime Im in the park

Made our way over to the New and Improved Fantasyland, and we were as happy as a clam.. but cold as an octopus... the rain, combined with wet hair and clothes in an air conditioned ride.. NO BUENO! (im practacing for Cinco De Drinko)

I think at one point a gust of AC hit us and we screamed like little girls giving up there voice to Ursulla!

I'll admit I could have kept going but I knew El was tired which is probably better cuz I still had 3 more days of this to do WOOHOO! So we deceided to head back to OKW (not Key West the City, yet that would be fun some day.. just saying!) plus we wanted to have a night cap! (I know your totally surprized)

Off we went to catch a buss

Even in the rain it still is a memorable site! and a GREAT day and nite was had on day 1.

Next up... I wonder what the guy from Cash Cab is up to nowadays...??

So cool to see a rainbow in MK :)

I love the huge smiles you all have on your faces despite the rain

HEY! It really is the happiest place on earth, and Drea was just happy to be here, plus...we were crackin up over a minor (MAJOR) detail both of us left out, (we'll fill it in- sorry!) so YEA! Smiles all around, rain or not! :rotfl:

SERIOUSLY!! We really needed to eat, we had no brain power- how did we miss taking a pic of all that?

I think I laughed so hard I snorted a few times. We window shopped a bit before going downstairs to the Wave.

Yea- and we heard that woman on her cell phone telling someone how the weather was going to be worse tomorrow and she was going to SeaWorld instead. PLUS- remember that cruise ship we saw in the distance on land? That we also didn't take a picture of? I think it really WAS the Four Seasons! We were right!

Loved the ambiance at the Wave

And the ambiance of the check-in area at the contemporary.....

And this is the part of the story where we are missing a little story, YA'LL!! :scared:

We just had dinner but look its an Ellen Samich

I LOVE this sammich!!

As I was talking to Joan it was like we had known eachother for eons, and she and her hubby were just too cute. Joan told me her son is a tuba player and daugher is flutist (right?).

Yes, that's right! Her Daughter also plays the oboe and sings (not all at the same time). She's very talented!

So I was on a mission to wave and cheer on kids I didnt know from a school I didnt go to from town I wasnt from lol! By the time they finally came marching down, which btw Disneys timing was way off, kind of like their fast pass times (more on that theory later). Apparently I heard tuba and thought thrumpet.. the rain shrunk his instrument.. ya thats it! OMG!! SHRINKAGE!!! :rotfl2:
Sorry Joan. But I will always have the memories of watching some kids I dont know from a school I didnt go to from a town Im not from March down Main St.. How awesome is that! lol

It's pretty awesome- you were cheering as loud as me- remember when I screamed the band director's name? I asked him the other day if he heard me, and yes he sure did! I have a BIG mouth!!

Yikes! If that ride would have broken there, I would have DIED!! And yea- we did scream just like that- LOL!

Hey! I got up at 4, and I was starting to fade- PLUS I was NOT leaving OKW without trying that famous Turtle Krawl drink in the Gurgling Suitcase, and I was pretty sure they would be closed when we checked out at 9 am in the morning!

Next up... I wonder what the guy from Cash Cab is up to nowadays...??

Bet I know......:cool1:

i think those photos were sent to me and I started to panic about the rain. I promised to bring the sunshine! did i?

Yuck for all that rain and still being soaked in an ac restaurant.

But I love the rainbow and that you all saw the band marching. How fun to know someone in the band. :thumbsup2

So sad it had to rain on your parade:rotfl2:Sorry I couldn't resist !! I am however going to miss The ITSK pix this trip!!!!:rotfl2:I can't wait to check out the new Fantasyland in October :dance3::dance3:

Minor details....

HEY! It really is the happiest place on earth, and Drea was just happy to be here, plus...we were crackin up over a minor (MAJOR) detail both of us left out, (we'll fill it in- sorry!) so YEA! Smiles all around, rain or not! :rotfl:

SOOO YA the reason for our title. As its raining buckets at the MK and we were waiting for the band to march on by someone (EL) needed to use the facilities... so I tagged along and went too. Now my memory is a lil fuzzy (hmm I wonder why? slushy, wine, wine, wine, champaigne. LOL)) It was either as we were waiting in line for a stall or after we were washing up that I heard a mom say to her kids it was still raining so she told them all.... wait for it... wait for it....

"PONCHO UP YA'LL!!!!"

and from there is became our catch phrase all weekend. Even when it didnt rain we were telling eachother to "PONCHO UP YA'LL!!!" Feel free to use it with your group any time you are in the land of Dis.. when its raining (or not), and for yout instagramers and tweeters thats #ponchoup LMAO.

See everyone around us.. they got the memo and knew to PONCHO UP YA'LL!

i think those photos were sent to me and I started to panic about the rain. I promised to bring the sunshine! did i?

The other thing that happened as we were heading over to the MK that brought us great laughs. All day we had been texting, Laura, Lonnie, & Joan. Laura kept promising she was bringing the Sunshine from Minnasoder. But my app kept telling me otherwise

When we sent her pics of us soaking wet and after we had PONCHO'd UP, she told us when we head back to the resort to iron our ponchos to melt the sides together.

(now to be honest this sounds like a great idea, I will most definatly do it next time) But at that moment El and I had just drank around the world, we didnt think it would be a good idea to put a hot iron to plastic... could you imagine explaining the reason for the fire to the Disney Fire Men..

Well sir, my friend from Minnasoder said to use an iron on our ponchos...
Why?
Well to keep us dry, when we PONCHO UP YA'LL! but Im not sure we needed to do it since she said she was bringing the sunshine! HICUP! lol

Im sure the Old Key West wouldnt mind becoming the New Key West.

Anyhow so back to where we were... where were we again..? OH YA leaving the MK.

El wanted to be sure we had enought time to hit up the OKW bar the Gurgling Suitcase, and then get our luggage before they both closed.

and man am I glad she insisted on the Turtle Krawl! Girl did not stear me wrong

We sat at the bar far left corner under the tv. (why did we not take pics of it? we must have been tired LOL)

Those drinks go down SOOOOOOO easy... you dont even taste the alcohol, man were we thirsty so we had Mr Cash Cab host... to make us another. (again didnt get a pic at the time, we did this a lot this night El will fill you in lol)

I swear to you this was who the barteneder in the Gurgling Suitcase looks like.. I mean I know that shows off air now so the guys got to be working somewhere.. maybe he's at Disney Now?

The Nets/Bulls game was on and we couldnt leave without seeing who won! Plus El was really egging on some dude that from Chi-Town every time she yelled for the Nets.

Dont mind the dreadlocks were going for a new look... cheers my friend!

We chugged down the 2nd drink and it was just about luggage closing time so we beelined it over there to finally make our way.. HOME. But not before we had a great 5cent tour....

Well, I really DID want to try that Turtle Krawl, Drea's right- MEK/eandesmom/etc spoke so highly of it in one of their TRs, and I knew those ladies would not steer us wrong! So it became the priority of the night, and is why we hopped the bus back.

And by the way...did you know that on the OKW bus, they play Jimmy Buffet type tunes the whole way? It's SOOOO cool! I loved that! :goodvibes

Anyway, speak for yourself, Drea- somebody DID get a pic of the Cash Cab bartender, Joe-

And he was GREAT!! I really like the Gurgling Suitcase- it feels like a place where everybody knows your name...even if they didn't know ours. ;) The BIG game was on, and I did enjoy going back and forth with those Bulls fans (Timmy is a HUGE Brooklyn Nets fan, so I had to do him proud!), but it was all good fun. And those Turtle Krawls were Da BOMB! Yum!! When game 6 finally ended (and the Nets WON!!- but then they lost in the next one- glad I wasn't there for THAT!) we got a ride over to our Hospitality House area studio (meaning it is in a building near the main area of the resort) by a very informative bellman who gave us our FULL nickel's worth.

Which would have been AWESOME (and was anyway!) if we had been staying longer than 9 1/2 hours. Most of which would be spent sleeping. Drea did need an activity between 8 and 8:15 am, so, it was good for that! But I'm going to let Drea tell you about the conversation with him because it will be MUCH more entertaining if she does it, I have a feeling...:thumbsup2 It WAS a really funny ride...:rotfl2: for all of us.

So we tipped him extra for the great, informative and entertaining 2 minute ride to our room, and then I took the last photos my Canon DSLR would ever take that weren't over-exposed - OKW studio pics-

One of the great things about an OKW studio is that it has 2 queen size beds- all other DVC studios have a bed and a pull out. Kind of nice. Plus, the room size is bigger- and it's a different shape.

Uh-oh....starting to look a little too bright...

That's better-

We chatted a little bit before turning off the lights and calling it a night- and MAN! I was TIRED!!!!! Hangin with Drea is EXHAUSTIING!!! LOL-

We did need to rest up- Lonnie and Laura were joining us (with the sunshine) the next morning, and we needed to be ready for more crazy!::yes::

So cool to see a rainbow in MK :)

I love the huge smiles you all have on your faces despite the rain

It really was so cool- everyone was pretty happy about it- :) And yea- we had big smiles for 4 days- we are a happy bunch, rain or not!

Great pics! :)

Thanks- but I was wishing I had mt better camera, not just my PAS- I would have spent a lot more time taking pics if I had had it- of course, later I realized that camera was broken, so this ended being the best it could have been anyway!

i think those photos were sent to me and I started to panic about the rain. I promised to bring the sunshine! did i?

You were panicking about the rain like 2 weeks before! :rotfl: And technically, the sunshine arrived before you, but we'll give you the credit anyway. :goodvibes

Yuck for all that rain and still being soaked in an ac restaurant.

It was a tad uncomfortable!

But I love the rainbow and that you all saw the band marching. How fun to know someone in the band. :thumbsup2

LOVED knowing someone in the band! Who doesn't?

So sad it had to rain on your parade:rotfl2:Sorry I couldn't resist !! I am however going to miss The ITSK pix this trip!!!!:rotfl2:I can't wait to check out the new Fantasyland in October :dance3::dance3:

:rotfl: I'm sure we can include a few oldies but goodies somewhere in the mix to keep you entertained.....:scratchin
